WJ -

That's my take, too. I called Game On, and they will get back to me in the next day or two regarding an "event" reservation. I will keep all informed.

Thanks Mikael, great stuff.

Game On!

I finally got through to the event planning person - whose name appears to be "Cashew" - and she confirmed a reservation for 15 on June 4th at 5 pm.

So, that's a meetup.

Awesome. Thanks, Mikael.

Other Games on June 4

I have been to Game On twice now and it really is a good time.

Does this place have a parking lot? I'm unsure about what the parking situation in Boston is.

It's literally in Fenway. There will be parking and since it will be after the game, maybe even reasonablly affordable parking too.
   107. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 13, 2005 at 08:21 PM (#1334446)
Right, after the game...still means I need to figure out somewhere to park before the game, eh...
   108. Fly should without a doubt be number !!!!! Posted: May 13, 2005 at 09:31 PM (#1334619)
Biff: Park at the Alewife red line stop in Cambridge. It's $4.50 for 24 hours, and it's an easy red line to green line ride to the game, probably 20 minutes. They have a huge garage that will be just about empty on a saturday, whereas the lots near Fenway will be full and probably want you out within 2 hours after the game.

That's awesome Mikael, great organisation.

I think before the game a couple of Italian Sausgaes are in order!

My 6 tickets are

Belhorn Biff
Fly
Mikael
Chris P
Lu and Myself.

4 are together near where Tek hit his walk off and 2 near Billy Baroo in the Non Alcoholic Section(or maybe Youks??).

Should be an absolute blast. In the words of Westerberg...I can't wait!!
   110. Baldrick Posted: May 14, 2005 at 08:03 AM (#1335922)
Scotto (or anyone else with access to tickets),

I'm looking for tickets for a game in early June. The 4th, unfortunately, doesn't work for me, but I can do either of the other games in the Angels series, the 1st against Bal, or any of the games in the Cincy series (13-15). Two tickets. Any ideas?

Sorry if asking about tickets isn't kosher here. Is there a place in Sox Therapy where this happens?
   111. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 14, 2005 at 08:27 AM (#1335953)
Baldrick, I have two for the Friday night game.

Drop me an email.

It was one, however I have a non baseball fan who was going to come, he won't mind missing out.

Does this place have a parking lot? I'm unsure about what the parking situation in Boston is.

Whatever you do, don't drive into Boston proper.

Fly's advice regarding the Alewife station is good. (Though Alewife->Fenway is probably closer to 30-40 minutes on a weekend gameday.)

My favorite parking choice is Brookline, any of the side streets off of Beacon. The parking is free (no overnight), you're only a couple stops on the Green Line from Fenway. If it's a nice day, it's even walkable.
   113. Fly should without a doubt be number !!!!! Posted: May 17, 2005 at 12:10 AM (#1341369)
That's a good point about Brookline. I always lived on the North Shore, so I was a Wonderland kid, and now I live in Brighton, so I'll be taking the B line of the Green Line to Kenmore.

That's important info, if you're not familiar, btw. You're not going to the Fenway green line stop, you're going to Kenmore. (Not that the Fenway stop's too far away, or anything, just not the best choice.)
   114. covelli chris p Posted: May 17, 2005 at 01:49 AM (#1341706)
the fenway stop is free going out of town at night, right? i've always been an alewife kid.
   115. Fly should without a doubt be number !!!!! Posted: May 17, 2005 at 02:39 AM (#1341900)
The Fenway stop is, I believe. But it's only the E line. Everything past Kenmore on the B, C, and D lines is also free outbound.
   116. villageidiom Posted: May 17, 2005 at 01:47 PM (#1342871)
The Fenway stop is, I believe. But it's only the E line. Everything past Kenmore on the B, C, and D lines is also free outbound.

Fenway is on the D line, which goes out to Riverside. The Riverside station is right next to I-95/Route 128, just one exit south of the merge with the Pike (I-90). Parking is $2.75, but the subway fare inbound from there is $3.00. It's free outbound. The one-way ride is a little under 30 minutes.

From the northwest, Alewife is probably the best option. Take Route 2 east until you get to the garage/station on the right. Mikael is right; 30-40 minutes for the one-way ride, with a change to Green Line (anything but E) at Park St. Station.

From the north, nearly any Orange Line station from Sullivan Square north will do. My personal preference is Wellington Station; take I-93 to Route 16 East. $3.00 for parking. Around 25-30 minutes one-way to Kenmore, with a change to Green Line at North Station. Or... the Sox offer a free shuttle service from Ruggles Station. The Wellington-to-Ruggles ride is about 20 minutes; the shuttle is about 5 minutes, and it drops you off right outside Gate B at Fenway. It won't be running by the time our postgame festivities are done, but I'm sure one of the many Primates can help you find your way back.

None of the above counts time spent waiting for a train (or multiple trains, if you're changing lines), or the Ruggles shuttle. Expect a max of 10-15 minutes on the Orange or Red Lines, and a max of 10 minutes on Green, between trains on a Saturday around noon. The Ruggles Shuttle leaves every 5-10 minutes.

If you do find yourself on the E line, all is not lost. Get out at Northeastern, then continue up Huntington Avenue to Forsyth Street. If you turn left on Forsyth, at the end of that street will be Ruggles Station (and the Ruggles Shuttle).

Having said all that, Mikael's suggestion of parking in Brookline, just off Beacon, is a fine one. That's provided, of course, that you're comfortable driving in Boston.
   117. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 17, 2005 at 01:54 PM (#1342875)
Park in Brookline; you can probably find a spot somewhere near coolidge corner. You can then take the C-Line to Kenmore.

Also, Kenmore is definitely closer to Fenway Park and game on than the Fenway Stop on the D line.

Are there any more face value tickets for that game that are going around?
   118. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 17, 2005 at 01:57 PM (#1342883)
To clarify, you can park on the street in Brookline for free if there is no meter, or at any meter spot for free if its Sunday or after 6 p.m. If you're taking the Mass Pike, get off at the Allston/Brighton stop, make a left onto Harvard Ave. and take that all the way down through coolidge corner. Once you get past CC you can find free street spots on side streets off Harvard St. Just don't get drunk and leave your car there overnight, or a ticket is assured.
   119. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 17, 2005 at 01:58 PM (#1342884)
Sorry, I see Mikael has already made all that pretty much clear.
   120. Mikαεl Posted: May 17, 2005 at 02:06 PM (#1342895)
Just don't get drunk and leave your car there overnight, or a ticket is assured.

This cannot be emphasized enough. And not necessarily just a ticket - the People's Republic of Brookline will tow for a first offense.

But, otherwise, it's totally free parking, easily accessed from the Pike, an easy T ride or a 30 minute walk if the weather's nice.
   121. The Artist Posted: May 23, 2005 at 04:22 PM (#1355854)
Eh- I missed this for a while- I think I might be in. I looked and saw my ticket is for the June 3 game as opposed to the June 4th- but I have Dylan tickets that night so I'm going to craigslist it and see if anyone wants to swap.
   122. The Artist Posted: May 23, 2005 at 04:24 PM (#1355857)
Eh also- if this is too late, I'll opt out - I didnt realize reservations and all had been made.
   123. The Artist Posted: May 23, 2005 at 04:26 PM (#1355860)
Also, avoid the B line like the plague. BU students make that a living hell. But I think they might have graduated or gone away for the summer by then so err... perhaps its kosher.
   124. Mikαεl Posted: May 23, 2005 at 04:27 PM (#1355864)
The reservation is for 15 people. I can't imagine they'd get pissy if it turned out to be 18. I also expect we'll have tables and a bar and standing around area.

Marc Sully the Caucasus Mountain Person can confirm or deny, but my understanding is that it's pretty open. If 50 more people descend on Game On, that would be suboptimal, but a couple more guys should simply be a good thing.
   125. HCO Posted: May 23, 2005 at 04:29 PM (#1355867)

Yeah, Aadik -- BU grad was this past weekend, so it shouldn't be too bad by then.

For those that plan on leaving a car behind in Brookline (or just plan on not wanting to plan), you can pay ($10?) for an overnight pass at the Brookline Townhall. As Mikeal and WJ write, it isn't needed for daytime parking.

I may try to make it as well, if that's ok. I would be fine in a standing around area as long as I can put my drink down somewhere.
   130. Marc Sully's not booin'. He's Youkin'. Posted: May 25, 2005 at 12:40 PM (#1360187)
What I imagine we have is about a 50 foot long, slightly elevated area with about 4 tables and room to seat, oh, 20 or so. There are five of these areas in the downstairs portion of the establishment - one in each corner and one perpindicular to a very long bar.. But if more show up, it's no biggie. The place is huge, with a large main area in the middle of these 5 elevated "skyboxes".
   131. HCO Posted: May 25, 2005 at 03:47 PM (#1360421)
Kevin, if you and Ben both come, both your drinks are on me.

That settles it. If Darren's going, so am I. Carpool from Hartford anyone?
   133. The Artist Posted: May 25, 2005 at 05:04 PM (#1360583)
Say, while we're here- anyone want to buy a ticket to the Friday game ? Sadly, I won't be able to go, as there's a Dylan concert - and I figure I should see the man once in my lifetime. Its a bleacher seat.

GGC, no can do on the carpool. We're staying with my parents through the weekend, and having y'all tag along would be far more awkward than I'm ready to bear.

villageidiom: Hi, Mom!

mamaidiom: Hi! It's so good to see you!

GGC: Hey.

mamaidiom: Who are you?

villageidiom: Oh, this is Jon. I met him on the internet.

mamaidiom (taking a step back): Oh.

villageidiom: We didn't even meet face to face until today.

mamaidiom: Who's that other guy?

GGC: Oh, that's Darren.

mamaidiom (relieved): Oh, good. For a second I thought it was Roger Clemens. That jerk.

Darren: What?! You wanna go, granny?

mrsidiom: I knew this was a bad idea.

Darren (being restrained): Take that back! You take that back about my Roger!

One thing to consider. There will doubtless be a line to get into Game On right after the game on Saturday. I don't know if our reservation entitles us to forego the line but we should both find out if it does and then determine how we will identify ourselves with the meetup party so that doormen know to let us in.

GGC, I can't do the carpool either. I'll likely be going up early in the day to see another friend.

Same for Darren.

So if the reservation is for 5, does anyone who doesn't have tickets want to meet up to watch the game somewhere? I'm not sure I can make the official meet-up at this point, but if people are already around, maybe we can watch the game at Game On.

Should we say what we're going to be wearing?

Strangers on the internet asking me what I'm wearing should probably be considered as having crossed a line.

I'll meet up with everyone at Game On. Having little time to socialize before the game is the price I pay to have my parents watch the littleidioms during and after the game. As long as someone does what Marc Sully suggested in post #139 and posts it here, I'll be all set.

I don't want to jinx anything, but... If the game is postponed, the meetup is still a go. Right? Still at 5:00, or do we try to get in earlier?
   152. Mikαεl Posted: June 02, 2005 at 07:39 PM (#1377299)
I just spoke to Cashew, from Game On. She said that we all would have to wait in the line, but once we got through, just tell them you're in Mikael's party, and you can go to the "box."

Mikael is pronounced the same as Michael.

Sorry I didn't put it under Baseball Primer or something, probably shoulda. I was embarrassed to explain it was an Internet friend meet-up.

I look forward nonetheless to meeting all my Internet friends.

B) Hammy. (Named for Jack Brohamer, Nomar's wife, or Manny's injury of choice.)
C) Soxy.
D) Whiny. (Token gesture to the ST trolls.)

Jillian's is right next to Fenway. Ask anyone where it is, and they'll direct you. Coming from CT, you'd probably be best off parking in Brookline and riding the C line in. Park right off of Beacon St.
   168. covelli chris p Posted: June 03, 2005 at 01:31 AM (#1378340)
Jillian's is on Landsdown Street across the street from Fenway. Riverside would probably be the easiest spot to catch the T. There's plenty of parking and it's right off 95.

if you dare drive into boston-ish, take fly's advice. if you're a pansy and are scared of city streets, stop at riverside.

I've gotten lost in Boston several times, and I've found my way out (eventually) each time!

...Except for the time when I got stuck in a blizzard, drove over a snowpile that was actually a curb, and broke down.

I'm going to stop at Riverside, I guess. But I'm coming in from 93...

There's the directions to Riverside, Darren. And yes, there's probably a sign.

<i>biff, you're coming from NH, right? there's no reason to go to Riverside if you're coming from north of boston. Wellington is probably the easiest.</i.

Gotcha. Just Mapquested it, exit 31 off of 93. Should be simple enough.

Now, on the T, which line do you want to end up on to get to Fenway?

Also, I'll try and figure out something a bit more distinctive to wear on Saturday.
   181. covelli chris p Posted: June 03, 2005 at 02:01 AM (#1378464)
take the orange line inbound to haymarket. switch to the green line inbound and get off at Kenmore.

Much thanks.

have we figured out who is going to get the 2 separate tickets in the non-alcohol section? I volunteered for one because I can't drink.

You and someone else is cool with me. We'll work it out at Jillians.

I can't handle the grandstand seating any longer as it hurts my knee a fair bit.

Here's my number - 646 633 3794.

Feel free to call me.

So Game On at 5 is the rendezvous point? Is anyone else who isn't going to the game gonna be there earlier?

Or simply take the Orange Line to Ruggles, then follow the signs to the *free* Red Sox Shuttle. The shuttle drops off outside Gate B, which is pretty close to Jillian's. Just walk toward Gate B, then turn right. The next intersection is Lansdowne, and Jillian's is on the corner.

I'll be at the meetup, if not the game. I'm fairly certain I'll be the only Indian with a goatee ... ;)

Ugh. I hate doing this at the last minute, but it looks like I may have to back out of the game due to financial concerns. I'll still go to the meetup, though...

Biff, I'm sure someone here would be able to take your place. Like maybe that nice Jon Daly guy. Too bad Shredder isn't in Boston, it would be cool to have an ANgels fan there.
   189. villageidiom Posted: June 03, 2005 at 08:46 PM (#1380018)
ANgels

That's "City of Angels Angels of Anaheim" to you.

Eh. Ignore my last post. I'll make it work somehow. I'm going to the game.
   191. Darren Posted: June 03, 2005 at 09:18 PM (#1380060)
Wow, total tease on poor GGC there. Yoink!
   192. HCO Posted: June 03, 2005 at 09:30 PM (#1380068)
I'll be taking a regional bus to South Station and the T from there. But since there's no available ticket for me, I won't be doing it until the late afternoon.
   193. HCO Posted: June 03, 2005 at 09:31 PM (#1380070)
Biff, I'll gladly take the ticket too. But I'm not fighting the Gulf War vet for it.
   194. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 03, 2005 at 09:33 PM (#1380072)
Would it be worth trying to get a lazy single ticket outside for those who don't have one? Once inside you can roam anywhere...

Wow, now I feel like a total a$s. I had actually forgotten that GGC was Jon Daly.
   196. GGC Posted: June 04, 2005 at 01:23 AM (#1380485)
No prob, it was a naked attempt to grab a ticket. In any case, I'll catch you guys tommorrow.
   197. Darren Posted: June 04, 2005 at 03:33 AM (#1380740)
I just looked on MBTA's site and it was no help in getting me to the Riverside station, or which station to use to get to Fenway (Kenmore?). Haven't been to Boston in a while.
   198. Mikαεl Posted: June 04, 2005 at 03:51 AM (#1380751)
The address for the Riverside Station is 390 Grove St, Newton, MA. It's right off either 90 or 95, wherever you're coming from. (map)

The train ride should be ~30 minutes, and you should probably give 10 minutes for waiting on a train.

You can get off at either Kenmore or Fenway. Either way, it should be pretty easy to follow everyone else toward the ballgame.

Are you planning to come early for tacos? That's at 92 Peterborough St, back behind Fenway toward the Fens. (map)
   199. covelli chris p Posted: June 04, 2005 at 03:52 AM (#1380752)
Darren-

you want to take the 95 to the grove street exit (exit 22). that's one exit south of where the mass pike (90) crosses 95. take grove street east and you will see the riverside station. there's plenty of parking there. there should be signs and stuff at the exit.
   200. covelli chris p Posted: June 04, 2005 at 03:56 AM (#1380757)
i think you can also get to riverside directly from the mass pike offramp without getting onto 95. there are lots of twisty ramps and stuff, but there are signs.

i don't know much abotu the mass pike--when i've been to riverside it's been from the grove street exit.
