One thing I'll add that I forgot to mention in the piece is that I was surprised to get to this conclusion. I figured JBJ would be pushed up to the 6th spot with some clear evidence that it made sense.

816 on runs scored? I'll take the over.

Still, I would not mind seeing him moved assuming of course that JBJ will perform equally well in the 7th spot as the 9th spot, a fact I see no reason to assume is wrong. If the Sox did that I’d leave Vazquez 8th and put Holt 9th as the lineup tool suggests.

I think we all can agree the top of the lineup is very solid and no changes need to be made. Whoever is catching is not going to hit well, and they should prob be in the 8 spot. ISo, if the only real up for debate spots are Holt or Young & JBJ for 7 & 9 and considering Young is probably going to be the better hitter if he is platooned correctly, why not just keep the lineup as it is? I think consistency in lineup construction is overlooked, there are enough players that have stated they like to have *their* spots in the order, it's something that needs to be considered along with the numbers (although I do think a consistently inconsistent lineup can work if the manager sells the players on it).

I can't argue with any of that.

If he keeps hitting, then I'd absolutely ask him he wanted to move before doing so.

####, at the pace of the past week they'll get there before the All-Star Break.

The Red Sox this year have the offense I thought they'd have last year, and it's glorious. Hanley's bounceback + Shaw replacing Panda = a rock solid lineup without much by way of a weakness.

The Sox are really, really good when whoever is catching comes through with clutch hits.

Day off for Pedroia, JBJ batting second.

I wouldn’t use 'conclusively' when discussing whether JBJ has established his level of performance. The last two seasons have each had amazing stretches. What if he hits a slump and doesn't come out so soon or so hot? On another thread somebody described his mechanics as being on a knife's edge.

That was me in both cases. I think I'm right though. The thing is if he can get this hot for stretches even if he gets cold for awhile the end result should at least be a cromulent MLB hitter. With his defense that's all he needs.

I ran it with current and with what they said was the 5th best option or so, one with Pedroia leading off and JBJ about 6th, and it was a 10 run difference.

Note, the way you entered the lineup, you have Ortiz batting first.

Did you do that today? Something must have changed from last nights game because I didn't get anything with Pedroia leading off.
   13. Darren Posted: May 14, 2016 at 09:57 PM (#5221256)
Let's see if we can have Ortiz bat in every slot.

I like that plan.

JBJ leading off with Mookie Betts taking the day off today.

Nice going Farrell, end JBJ's streak by batting him leadoff. Moron. #freetoreylovullo

Ending the streak by batting him in the lineup spot that guarantees maximum opportunity?

Exactly! (my post was meant to be snark).

Betts' power needs to be in the 3 hole in the lineup IMO. Maybe with Pedroia at leadoff and Bogaerts 2nd? Or JBJ 2nd and Bogaerts 5th behind Ortiz.

The way the team is scoring runs, everyone should bat 3rd.

I wouldn't mess with any of this right now. They are just scoring for fun. Here is what the Baseball Musings spit out at me for an ideal lineup (5.063 runs/game). As before I used ZiPS Rest of Season projections;

Ramirez
Betts
Bogaerts
Ortiz
Bradley
Shaw
Swihart
Vazquez
Pedroia

The thing that jumps at me is that Pedroia is moved to ninth now despite a very good RoS projection (.347/.419) which I think highlights just how good this lineup is.
