The play in question was when Arias was playing 1B (WTF?) and badly butchered a groundball. After some back and forth about what a tough play it was (which it wasn't), Grieve commented that there have been a lot of good fielding 1b to come through the organization. Lewin responded with "boy, no ####\".

What I'll always remember of Grieve in the booth was the first Rangers/Yankees game in 1992 after Danny Tartabull signed with New York.

Every time Tartabull was on screen, Grieve went on the attack.... Tartabull was lazy. He was injury prone. He was a terrible fielder. He was a poor baserunner. He was a clubhouse cancer. He piled up RBI in blowouts but couldn't produce in the clutch. He struck out too much. And on and on.

What made Grieve's comments especially funny was that he had spent the previous winter as GM trying to lure Tartabull to Texas, only to see the Yankees swoop in at the end and top all bidders.

Grieve was the g.m. in 1992. Are you saying he was making those comments when he was in the booth as a guest in his role of g.m.? That would surprise me?

Yeah, I think #2 may have his years wrong. Grieve was the GM from 84-94.
