Sure, it would be possible. You’d want to create ball-in-play charts and see how you’d position your fielders given that distribution to maximize the probability of turning a BIP into an out. You might find some incremental gains with different positioning. My suspicion is that you’d find - as major league teams have found - that optimal positioning is situation-dependent.
