I’m in dump mode . . .
ARod and Javy Lopez are going.
Here are the two choices for what I’d get back:
Proposal #1
$3 for next year
Cory Patterson $4 through 2008 (extendable)
Joe Mauer $12 through 2007 (not extendable)
2 second round farm picks (will the players for 3 or 4 years at a $5 salary)
1 late first round farm pick
We have a 4 round farm drafts, so teams have fairly deep farm systems
***********
Proposal #2
Justin Huber $5 through 2008 or 2009 (not sure)
Joel Zumaya $6 through 2008
1 first round farm pick (likely to be either #1-3, or #10-12)
Dustin Moseley who will be $2 for 3 or 4 years after his call up
Jeremy Reed $7 through 2007
Jarrod Washburn $14 through 2007
Actually in this offer, I get to keep Reed and Washburn, who I already have - but it puts the proposals on equal footing.
Which package would you rather have?
In the final year of a player’s contract (like Washburn before next year) if you don’t extend him for at least 1 year guaranteed at $5 raise, he’s arbitratable - which means anyone can bring his name up first 3 rounds of the auction, and then when the bidding is done, you can decide to dump or keep him. So that would apply to Reed and Washburn next year, Zumaya before 2008, Patterson before 2008. Mauer is already guaranteed and non-renewable after 2007.
