Dan, stop being a coward and answer the questions—who closed the thread?  who deleted it?  why?

veer didn’t threaten you—his response was remarkably civil given the vitriolic tone of your posts.  But since you made the thread and his comments go away, the community doesn’t have access to them so it can judge for itself.

tshipman’s right—this is full on meltdown mode on your part—drunk with the miniscule amount of power you have—king in castle! king in castle!

Bullshit.  His meaning was clear.

There was no threat—there was a piece of advice, one given based on your own comments about the wisdom of posting your political opinions.

Be honest—you have no self-control.  You lost it, you crossed the line, and then you burned the evidence.  Sam nails it at the top of the page.

veer’s reaction to the incident has been measured and conciliatory; pretty much the complete opposite of yours.  There was no threat.  None.  If you’re so confident about the meaning, re-post the exchange and let us see for ourselves.

You have a huge and hypocritical authoritarian streak in you that comes out in these threads.  It’s ugly.

I hope veer at least paid for your cab fare.

Dan, what did veer say that you construed as a threat?  If it was so obviously a threat, why don’t you re-post it?  Who took down the thread and why?  What the #### are you so afraid of?

Damn, I think Szym is auditioning for the lead in the proposed Real Housewives of BTF series.

Honestly?  An eternity of listening to your constant self-righteous barrage of bullshit would frighten the hell out of me.  You have a history of being as civil as the McCourt divorce, so let’s not throw too many big stones.

IOW, there was nothing threatening, and you’re afraid that everyone would see what a dickish move it was.  Fantastic.

I give what I get Dan.

Who deleted the thread and why?  Simple questions, all you have to do is answer.  A libertarian who suppresses speech when given the opportunity.  Priceless.

If I wanted to suppress your speech, I would have simply deleted you and the rest of the trolls here that seek every opportunity to turn a thread into a political flamewar.  I’m good and tired with you and the rest of your ilk (you, something other, veer bender, tshipman) that seek to turn any topic into a political thread, act like complete dicks for thousands of posts, and then act surprised when someone else loses their temper.

You couldn’t *pay* me to answer *any* question oozing out of your claptrap.

Ban ‘em all, Szym. Hang ‘em high. You know we’re all better off without them.

OTOH, the whining in here is fantastic entertainment if you are feeling as misanthropic as I do at the moment.

Full on meltdown.  Wow.

Dan, you launched into an unprovoked rant against teachers.  It’s not our fault you can’t control your temper.

Deleting the thread is suppressing speech.  That you’re not abusing your authority as fully as you could be does not mean that you’re not abusing your authority.  Do you want a cookie for not going full on dictator on us?

Edit: and FWIW Dan, I never try to turn threads political.  If they’ve gone that way, I’ll comment.  But from what I’ve seen here, this cuts both ways—Ray is just as likely to make a thread political as tshipman.  Now you’re firmly in the realm of “making stuff up.”

I would, but it’s a little hypocritical.  I admit it’s my fault - I should have been tougher about a political thread at the start and immediately closed it, rather than being tempted by an interesting conversation.

There are about 6-12 posters, who are a tiny minority of the posters, who get unbelievably self-righteous upon any action taken, and I’m sick and tired of them.  Whether explained or not, whether a closed individual post, or closing a thread to comments, or closing a thread entirely, they’ll ##### and moan like you just ran over their kids with your car.  Frankly, I’m sick of placating these trolls, the 0.000001% of the readership that’s responsible for 95% of the ######## and moaning.

Engaging trolls may not be the most productive behavior, but it’s just downright FUN sometimes.

Deleting the thread is suppressing speech.

No more than kicking someone out of your house for yelling.

On this private property, you have two enumerated rights.  The right to stay, the right to go.  You have no right to be able to post whatever your feel like on whatever page you feel like.  You have no right to a detailed list and explanation behind the many administrative actions taken on a daily basis to keep the site running.

This is a baseball site.  There will be no more political threads until the site updates are complete and we have a method for safely quarantining political threads so the 99.9999% of people who want to talk about baseball aren’t constantly hijacked by the 0.0001% of self-righteous trolls.

I don’t claim to have any rights at BBTF, and the overlords are free to administer the site as they please. That said, deleting that entire thread seems like it was clearly done to remove every trace of a discussion in which an admin apparently regretted participating, and to deny this is an insult to everyone’s intelligence.

It’s absurd to suggest that political threads suddenly became anathema to BBTF at the exact moment an admin got into a heated and somewhat regrettable back and forth with someone, regardless of whether that someone is a troll or not. At most, locking the thread would have sufficed to foreclose any further “trolling,” and deleting threads while taking no action against the alleged trolls seems like a counterproductive way to run a forum.

Dan: I’m an outsider to this, don’t really know what happened in the original thread and have no issue with you. But—and I’ll say this about as nicely as I can—you could stand to improve your PR skills.

Dan, if you want to enforce the TOS as they’re written, go for it.  But you don’t—and in fact, you don’t play by your own rules.  Now you can say you don’t have to (see below), and you’re right, but that just makes you a dishonest participant in these conversations.

Again, you have a legal right to do whatever you want.  But like a god libertarian, you’re equating legal rights with moral ones.  Technically, you’re right, but ethically—this is questionable behavior.  You’re flipping the board when you don’t like the outcome of the game.  You’re closing the thread and deleting comments, so that you have no accountability for the things you post, or for the accusations you hurled at other posters.  You’re treating people here like subjects rather than members of a community.  And it betrays an authoritarian impulse on your part.  Joe is on your side politically, and even he sees it.
