So, would you do it AS THE METS?

Pujols has much more talent - too big of a question mark moving Pujols back to 3B, plus the salary issue.

Yes. Even if Pujols is a subpar defensive 3B I think this trade would be great for the Mets. While I like Wright a there are few players I would personally deal him for….Pujols is one of them. Whether he sticks at 1B or moves to 3B or LF.

that’s crazy. Pujols costs so much more, and if he had to stick at 1B you’d have to bench Delgado or try to trade him.

I’m one of the “Mets should keep Wright” people - salaries have to play a part here.  Pujols is an amazing player, but he’s had his super-cheap years already and there’s no arbitration for Wright until after 2007.  Even then, Pujols would come out ahead of most players, but Wright’s good enough that I’d take him.

Now, salary considerations aside, I’d take Pujols.

Here’s the pitch to Lofton.  Fly ball, center field ... Erstad says he’s got it!!  Erstad ... makes the catch!  The Anaheim Angels are the champions of baseball!

I know; I just wanted to see how highly Mets value Wright.

Pujols’s Salary + Delgado + Pujols’s Defense + Age + Wright’s Batting = No deal.

I took it more as “would you swap these players if nothing else mattered” but I guess that was a bit off. Everything considered I wouldnt make the deal. But talent alone…...sure.

Pluswise Pujols is at least, like 30, and does steroids and hates Stan Musial.  Wright is dreamy and will work for the minimum for 12 years and donates to bb-ref.org. That said, Albert is a hitting god, still has 25 years of career ahead of him, will definitely break Bonds’ HR record and is a great guy. Wright is a young punk who is going to leave the small market Mets for the big money Yankees, then depose Jeter and go all Dick Allen on the gentle citizens of NY.  You gotta look at all sides of a deal like this.  (NOW am I ready for sports radio?)
