BTF seems to encounter random slow page loads, either when refreshing the page to see new comments or when posting a comment. This is in the Newsstand.
I’m no expert but my best guess is that the web server is having database connectivity problems or maybe the database server is having intermittent problems of some sort, based on the rare error messages that I’ve seen. The logs should reveal the trouble.
But in any case it might be wise to address this before the pennant race heats up and guys start wearing out their F5 buttons.
I noticed the same problem and have been monitoring the server. As of right now, I haven’t been able to pinpoint the issue, yet. I have some vacation time next week so I should have some time to get to the bottom of the problem.
This problem is getting continually worse. It used to be tolerable, but in recent weeks Newsstand posts are getting lost after detailed editing with a “503 Service unavailable” error. A number of other long-time regulars are complaining bitterly in baseball threads. One says he can only view this forum while logged out, once he logs in he can’t access this forum to contribute to this thread.
During the I-95 incident there were a number of commenters who indicated that they deal with web servers and databases as a profession. Perhaps it’s worth asking them for suggestions?
Does BTF run on a shared host or is it your own dedicated hardware? If shared, perhaps BTF is getting squeezed by other virtual hosts on the same oversold bare metal server?
I’ve gotten it like three times in the last two days. Seems to have been better the last hour (~noon Pacific), but the website was unusable this morning.
It’s atrocious. At this point there’s a 3-5 minute outage every 10-15 minutes and the whole site is bordering on unusable.
There’s no way BTF generates enough web traffic to bring even the cheapest of servers to its knees like this. It got much worse three days ago but this #### has been going on all summer and it’s painful.

Yeah….isn’t there another way? It’s enormously frustrating.
I have noticed the issue at times as well. The site is hosted on dedicated hardware and, even when the hiccups happen, the server setup is under extremely light load. It’s not a hardware issue. . It’s MYSQL related. I am on vacation this week and will dedicate some time into fixing this.
Sorry to say, so far, no good. I was hopeful, but shortly after you posted this morning and again just now it took well over a minute to reload a couple Newsstand pages. Appreciate your efforts nevertheless.
Can’t manually search either. Went to the Dodgers label, and can’t go back any pages as this is what the bottom of the page looks like:
