Removing that one thread was a fantastic move. Quality of content WAY better. Site traffic seems fine. Poster behavior solid. New poster names showing.  Early returns look good.

Those Adidas ads are still killing the site.  I had to refresh the home page 5 or 6 times in order to get it to load properly.

Thanks for the feedback. I read everything and am still thinking about some of the suggestions. I’ve also spent considerable time in the last month using Wordpress. With some of the changes to ExpressionEngine and the vibrant user and developer base of Wordpress, I’m very seriously considering converting the site to Wordpress over the winter. Doing so should make it much easier for me to keep things up-to-date and add features. Anyway, I will post more after the holidays.

Jim, FWIW after surfing a bunch of threads over lunch I haven’t gotten it. Before, I couldn’t go more than 3 or 4 page loads without it showing up.

I’m very sorry but the only thing that is going to help is for you to turn over the website to someone who has time for it. Showing up once every five years to remind us that you have no time for the site and making some vague promise of a new format isn’t going to cut it. This site has been basically unchanged since 2003 when I was in high school. You have no regular members who are under 30 and even your under 40 count is rapidly shrinking. The only way to save the site is to give it to someone else. Hand it over and wash your hands of it or else continue to watch it rot. I have a lot of love for this community and want to see it remain but you need to let go, man. I’m sorry.

I used to love this site but left after college because life got in the way.  When I would occasionally come back to check in, all I saw was a bunch of angry white men screaming at each other (of which I am not.)  I think the vaguely defined “politics” needs to called out for what it is.

Based on how bad the community has become, I don’t believe the community has the will to change it from an angry boys club into a more inclusive atmosphere where there is room for differing viewpoints.

I basically come to read Walt Davis’s posts where he uses his encyclopedic knowledge of the game to actually talk about baseball.

I will say I’m generally very happy with BTF.  I’m not sure what we can do about growing the community and I won’t pretend to know.  The one thing I will call out is that as Master of the Horse noted on December 20th once again YR is posting his anti-religion comments in threads that have no relevance (the Barry Bonds dog thread and the Trevor Bauer thread).  There’s really no need for that.

More generally I have little to complain about.  The site is free, it aggregates baseball news and for the most part the people who post here have interesting things to say.

Just wanted to note that YR is now making racist comments in addition to his standard anti-Catholic, anti-Christian BS.

This racist comment was directly at Blastin, a black poster.
