Smell test

I’ve got Wandy Rodriguez.  If I want to “Sell High” for an NL outfielder, who’s the best I could ask for without getting laughed out of the room.  Who’s the worst I should settle for?

Because of the depth of your league, you might have to settle for a lesser guy.

Would going for a guy like Murton be a good idea?  He’s not started all that well, but he would definitely help you.

I might also suggest Jeremy Hermida.

Yeah.  I think he might only be worth Murton, but I was thinking maybe someone would think 4-0, 2.53 ERA would mean he’s on his way to a 20 win season, and give up someone really good for him.

The problem is, I picked him up for 2 dollars at the end of the draft, knowing that he probably wouldn’t be worth much.  Since I don’t make snap judgments based on a few starts, I am assuming that he won’t be very valuable for the rest of the year.  Since this is my first year playing roto,  I just don’t have a good sense for how valuable someone would perceive him to be who DID make judgments based on 4 starts.

I like to float a trade with a guy who isn’t going to howl to the moon that you’ve offered pocket lint to for his first born.  And I shoot high, of course.

I’d start by asking for someone big like an Alou or a Burrell.  The worst they can say is no.  I would just think that Hermida or Murton might end up being the offers accepted.

I also judge trades based on what I would have thought about it on draft day.  I’ve done three trades this year, and all of them I would have over the moon for on draft day:

1. Farnsworth (24th round) and Kearns (18th) for Street (7th)
2. Mulder (12th) for K-Rod (5th)
3. R. Hernandez (13th) for Burrell (8th).

Don’t be afraid to make offers that get rejected.  People will howl, but you don’t have to get bothered by it.

PhillyBooster, you should join me over at http://www.fantasybaseball.com.  Those message boards are a lot busier than these ones here for fantasy talk.

Also, what do you think of my trade today: R. Hernadez for Burrell?
