It's not too often that the Nats have a shot at a four game sweep, that's for sure.
   2. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 11:25 PM (#3871348)
It's not every day you get to play an embarrassing team like the 2011 Cubs.
   3. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 11:33 PM (#3871354)
At least with Garza starting, you feel like the Cubs have a chance. Unlike when Doug Davis, Randy Wells, Ramon Ortiz and the other little sisters of the poor are starting.
   4. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:05 AM (#3871375)
If Espinosa were any hotter, he'd go thermonuclear. Put him in the All Star Game Bochy!
   5. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:05 AM (#3871377)
Why do we suck so much? This team is fast approaching the '62 Mets.
   6. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:09 AM (#3871379)
Garza is good, but it looks like another early night coming for the Cubbies bullpen.
   7. Spahn Insane Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:10 AM (#3871380)
The Nats should be ashamed not to have won any of the first three games by more than a run.
   8. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:12 AM (#3871381)
The Cubs defense has really betrayed Garza this inning. Carlos Pena evidently forgetting to use the glove to stop the ball, not his face.
   9. Spahn Insane Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3871383)
8 straight men on base. Impressive meltdown.
   10. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3871384)
What an absolute disaster.
   11. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:17 AM (#3871387)
Has Garza always been such an atrocious fielder? He's been just miserable this year.

This is going to kill the pen, but I'm not sure how much more Quade could sit and watch that. Garza looked awful this inning to the point where I'm not sure he could record three outs.
   12. Spahn Insane Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:18 AM (#3871389)
Infield playing in to cut off the all-important seventh run.
   13. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:20 AM (#3871391)
My son is arguing with me, saying I am exaggerating by saying this is the worst Cubs team I have seen in my lifetime, even those that had Larry Bittner on it. This is a really, really, bad team.
   14. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:24 AM (#3871395)
Statistically, they're still better than the 2006 team, but I sense it will be a close race all the way.
   15. Spahn Insane Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:26 AM (#3871398)
The Biitner years were right before I started paying attention. I can't remember a Cub team that had both this little pitching AND this little overall frontline talent.
   16. Spahn Insane Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:27 AM (#3871400)
No, Pat, 35-53 isn't "lackluster." It sucks.
   17. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:29 AM (#3871402)
This team better start selling this weekend.
   18. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:32 AM (#3871404)
So what moves do you guys think the Cubs need to do (besides firing Hendry)?
   19. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:34 AM (#3871405)
OK, getting hit around is one thing, but THAT was seriously embarrassing right there.
   20. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:39 AM (#3871410)
I got the Green Hornet and the A-Team from Netflix today. Both seem more attractive then this.
   21. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 12:45 AM (#3871412)
Jesus. Can anyone on this ####### team play this game? I feel like they need a Bull Durham type team meeting.
   22. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 01:08 AM (#3871428)
Holy crap. The Cubs are back in this game.
   23. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 01:12 AM (#3871432)
What the hell happened. I saw Ramirez single and went and took my contacts out. I come back and it's a two-run game.
   24. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 01:16 AM (#3871436)
Len and Bob are making a good point about the unwritten rule of trying to add on in a blowout game.
   25. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 01:16 AM (#3871437)
The Cubs batted around and then DeWitt hit a three run homer. This is a pretty unlikely turn of events-I was about to put in a Blu Ray.
   26. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 01:29 AM (#3871447)
Holy ####### ####. The Cubs have managed to tie this game.
   27. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 01:57 AM (#3871477)
This is by far the most improbable game of the season.
   28. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 01:59 AM (#3871479)
This is crazy.
   29. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3871491)
God damn it.
   30. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3871493)
In about the thirty years I've been watching baseball, this is one of the wilder games I've ever seen.
   31. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:17 AM (#3871499)
Why the hell doesn't Quade pinch-run Campy for Soto? I swear the guy is brain-dead.
   32. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:19 AM (#3871500)
And that is why Campy should have been on-base. Fire Quade when you dump Hendry.
   33. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:23 AM (#3871503)
Barney!!
   34. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3871506)
What a win this would be.
   35. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:31 AM (#3871510)
Uh oh.
   36. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:31 AM (#3871511)
And now technical difficulties.
   37. Dan The Mediocre is one of "the rest" Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:36 AM (#3871514)
Marmol really didn't need to make this more interesting than it already was.
   38. Dan The Mediocre is one of "the rest" Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:39 AM (#3871516)
I don't mind the walk to Nix. He's got an .881 OPS against righties this season. If he doesn't want to chase pitches, just walk him.
   39. SteveM. Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:39 AM (#3871517)
A refreshing change-the Cubs actually mount a comeback.
   40. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 08, 2011 at 02:40 AM (#3871518)
Well, I'm glad I didn't stop watching like I planned to after the 4th. What a wild affair. Games like this are why baseball is the superior sport.
