Why are the Marlins wearing their black unis again when it's 94 degrees outside? That just seems stupid.
   2. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:30 PM (#3879483)
Typical Cubs start.
   3. These Guys Suck Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:32 PM (#3879484)
#### you Wells.
   4. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:32 PM (#3879485)
Can't believe that ball didn't get out also.
   5. These Guys Suck Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:34 PM (#3879486)
Can we all agree that Wells has lost his spot in the 2012 rotation?
   6. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:35 PM (#3879487)
Ha ha, remember when we thought Wells's injury was a big reason for the Cubs' bad start? Those were more innocent times.
   7. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:40 PM (#3879493)
Trying to figure out why Kosoke is sitting out against a righty.
   8. These Guys Suck Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:41 PM (#3879494)
Good thing Castro ran threw the stop sign. He was safe by a mile.
   9. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:42 PM (#3879495)
So after all the guys that DeJesus has sent to get gunned down by two miles at home this year, he tries to hold Castro at third there? I shake my head in disbelief.
   10. These Guys Suck Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:42 PM (#3879496)
Threw <> through, dummy.
   11. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:43 PM (#3879497)
The whole coaching staff needs walking papers.
   12. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:47 PM (#3879498)
I feel this needs to be repeated:

Unless Castro stops to tie his shoe, falls victim to a sniper, gets hit by a meteorite, etc., there was no chance of him getting thrown out at home there. I know you don't want to get the first out at home when you're behind, but good lord, there's NO justification for DeJesus throwing up a stop sign there.
   13. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:48 PM (#3879499)
Good inning. Nice to see a few hits put together with RISP.
   14. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 06:49 PM (#3879500)
100% agree Brian. Did DeJesus think it was Soto running?
   15. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 07:29 PM (#3879513)
Nice double play by Castro and Barney.
   16. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 07:29 PM (#3879514)
So, the Marlins have a manager who does not put a high priority on keeping his starting pitcher in the game if said pitcher clearly isn't doing all that well. Interesting.
   17. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 07:48 PM (#3879520)
I guess Quade is determined to make Wells lose this game?
   18. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:04 PM (#3879526)
Will Quade realize he has been lucky to get through six with Wells and get someone else in to pitch?
   19. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:05 PM (#3879528)
Randy Wells at 100 pitches in 94 degree heat. Only 51 of those 100 pitches were strikes. Great work, Quade!

I should add that Wells has my respect for fighting through it today. He hasn't been good, really, but he's managed to work around a ton of baserunners and keep his team in the game. He's given the team more than his manager has today.

Also Wells looks badly sunburned.
   20. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:15 PM (#3879534)
I really wish I understood this fascination Quade has with using DeWitt in left.
   21. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:23 PM (#3879538)
Especially today when, like you said, there was no reason to sit Fukudome. That we know of, anyway. They're going up against Cliff Lee tomorrow night, why not give him a day off then?

Also ... at the risk of beating this horse to death, DeWitt has no real use on this team to begin with. He can't hit right-handers, and he doesn't hit lefties as well as anyone he'd be replacing in the lineup. Whatever his uses may be, he's an ill fit on this team.
   22. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:27 PM (#3879545)
Hey, Sinise actually knows the words to the ******* song.
   23. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:29 PM (#3879547)
Sinise kicks ass. The only function I see DeWitt filling is backup 3B. I really think DJ might be a better fit as utility guy.
   24. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:45 PM (#3879558)
What can you even say about the ump in a case like that? Len said something about "benefit of replay" but I think we could all see that he was out in real time. The only thing replay showed was that it wasn't even close.
   25. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:47 PM (#3879559)
The only function I see DeWitt filling is backup 3B.

Which is a really nice way of saying that he has no real spot on the team, isn't it? I know A-Ram gets hurt every year, but how many teams carry a designated backup 3B on the roster all year?
   26. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:49 PM (#3879561)
Oh man. Wood hasn't exactly made his own luck in this inning but he still deserved a little better than this.
   27. Meatwad Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:54 PM (#3879565)
How did the ump blow that call? Keith called em lazy during the 5 th because they didnt call interference when the marlins player slid way away from the bag to break up a dp
   28. SteveM. Posted: July 17, 2011 at 08:55 PM (#3879566)
That inning epitomized the Cubs season.
   29. Brian C Posted: July 17, 2011 at 09:28 PM (#3879603)
Well, #### that.
