Lackey faces 28 batters through 9 full innings. Book it.

Vlad likes Lackey, and vice versa.
   3. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 09, 2011 at 11:22 PM (#3873135)
That was very close. I need to see that in slow motion.
   4. Dan Posted: July 09, 2011 at 11:28 PM (#3873139)
According to Pitch F/X Lackey hit 95.5 MPH on the gun in the first inning with a 4-seamer.
   5. Dan Posted: July 09, 2011 at 11:31 PM (#3873142)
First inning squander. Joy.
   6. Dan Posted: July 09, 2011 at 11:33 PM (#3873144)
Nicely played by Reddick.
   7. Dan Posted: July 09, 2011 at 11:58 PM (#3873159)
Lackey lookas like a completely different pitcher today. In addition to the improved velocity, he's got 7 swinging strikes in just 3 innings.
   8. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3873162)
Runner to second with no outs every inning, no runs yet. Off of a reliever who is starting this game for some reason.
   9. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:42 AM (#3873171)
Ells a homer away from the cycle now.
   10. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:43 AM (#3873172)
So ####### ridiculous.
   11. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:45 AM (#3873173)
Sox have done an impressive job of squandering scoring opportunities so far tonight.
   12. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:45 AM (#3873175)
Stupid IBB as usual. Punish it Youk.
   13. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:49 AM (#3873179)
How'd that IBB work out for you, Buck?
   14. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:50 AM (#3873180)
IBBs are so stupid early in the game with 2 outs. FIRST BASE BEING "OPEN" IS IRRELEVANT WITH TWO OUTS.
   15. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:51 AM (#3873181)
The first intentional walk worked so well that Showalter figured he should do it twice.
   16. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:52 AM (#3873184)
Suck it Showalter. I love the rare occasions where we actually punish the idiotic IBBs.
   17. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:52 AM (#3873186)
Reddick!!
   18. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:53 AM (#3873187)
It is NOT the proper strategy Remy. Holy #### you are stupid. It really pisses me off when people describe first base as being "open" when there are TWO ####### OUTS.
   19. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:53 AM (#3873188)
Hahahaha suck it, Showalter!
   20. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:53 AM (#3873191)
Remy has been insufferable today
   21. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:54 AM (#3873192)
There's no way that they can justify sitting Reddick and playing Drew once Crawford comes back, right? I mean at this point Reddick has produced more in his limited time than Drew has all season.
   22. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:55 AM (#3873194)
It is NOT the proper strategy Remy.

It's totally the right strategy... for bottom of the 9th, tied game.
   23. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 12:58 AM (#3873196)
#21 - hope so - Reddick needs a load more at bats
   24. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:01 AM (#3873198)
So, Lackey has been pretty good so far???

I've only been watching from he K'd Weiters...
   25. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:02 AM (#3873199)

It's funny to see you and I both campaigning against Drew when we've both been two of his biggest fans among the Sox fans on this board, but man he's just toast. Time to move on. I love Drew but it's time for him to hang 'em up and go on with his lifelong dream of being a missionary or whatever it is he's planning.
   26. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:05 AM (#3873201)
Agree Dan - he looks hopeless at the plate.

Nice little DP there
   27. Chip Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:10 AM (#3873207)
One thing I would say in Drew's favor is that his defense, so far, doesn't appear to have declined much, if any. You'd think if he had hit the age wall we'd be seeing him struggle in Fenway's massive right field as much as we've seen him struggle at the plate.
   28. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:11 AM (#3873209)
Reddick's defense is good too though. And he has a better arm.
   29. Chip Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:15 AM (#3873213)
I agree.

On cue, Drew makes a nice play.
   30. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:16 AM (#3873214)
I'm a bigger Drew fanboy than either of you.
   31. Chip Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:16 AM (#3873215)
Lackey is a dick.
   32. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:21 AM (#3873219)
Great game by Lackey, and good to see the fans giving him a solid ovation. Hopefully he can build on this and have a decent second half, although obviously his overall numbers are going to suck no matter how well he pitches from here on out.
   33. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:23 AM (#3873221)
Lackey is a dick.

So's your face.
   34. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:23 AM (#3873222)
Good effort tonight from Lackey - seemed like the guy they paid for tonight....
   35. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:24 AM (#3873224)
His ERA is under 7 - 6.84!!!

Time to celebrate!!
   36. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3873225)
Please leave Josh in here...
   37. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:39 AM (#3873233)
Daniel Bard is going to make a great closer in 2012...

...can we play Baltimore for the entire second half of the season?...

...why can't John Lackey throw this hard, and this well, every time out?...

...assuming it stays 4-0 in the 9th inning, do you put in Jencks?...

...why am I writing as if I was Larry King?...
   38. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:42 AM (#3873236)
I'd think Albers over Jenks.

That was a solid throw by Salty, but too big of a jump.
   39. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:43 AM (#3873237)
Love that Bard guy...
   40. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:48 AM (#3873241)
Drew has 2 XBH in his last 100 PA.
   41. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:56 AM (#3873246)
Reddick definitely a plus OF on defense.
   42. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:57 AM (#3873247)
Reddick with a great little catch there off Weiters
   43. Dan Posted: July 10, 2011 at 01:58 AM (#3873248)
Is it possible to buy a Reddick jersey T-shirt yet? Guessing they might not be printing them yet.
   44. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: July 10, 2011 at 02:02 AM (#3873250)
Let me take #40 to the next level:

Since April 12th, he has made 221 PAs. He has 4 2Bs, 1 3B, and 4 HRs, hitting .220 with a SLG of under .320. Amazingly, he's had 4 IBB during this stretch. About the only two outfielders in the league who were worse than Drew during this time were...McDonald and Cameron!

If Josh Reddick isn't playing every day when Crawford gets back, then the Red Sox are guilty of malpractice. I still think Kalish is the longer-term answer.

And with the win tonight - the Red Sox are now 54-35, and 52-25 since that dreadful 2-10 start. Imagine if Crawford or Drew were hitting jack #### this year!
