chris denorfia stole home in the top of the 2nd. he got a walking lead off third, and when lee floated a pickoff throw to first, denorfia broke towards the plate and beat the throw.

also, i really like chase headley.

I've always liked the way Denorfia played; if only he had a little more pop

Oh, and I guess that Denorfia doesn't really have a RF arm either

he could have had a really nice career if he'd have been able to avoid injuries. there were a few years where he was pegged as a breakout player, but he just couldn't get on the field.

anyway, it's a very good thing that brad lidge looks usable, because i've got this sinking feeling that stutes' arm is gonna fall off one of these days.

that's a hell of a take by brown there on the 3-2 pitch.

Bell's pretty f'n tough. He surprised the heck out of Gload on that strike 3.

lacking a tuesday gamethread so i'll post here.

i really, really love watching vance worley pitch. i know he's not in halladay's or hamels' or lee's league, but it's just really fun to see what he does. he pounds the corners, tailing his fastball in or out against both LH and RH batters.

looking at his pitch f/x, there's something really interesting. he throws a fastball around 90 MPH that tails in to RHBs, but he also throws a changeup around 85 which also tails in to RHBs. he throws a cutter around 90 which tails in to LHBs, but he also throws a slider around 85 which also tails in to LHBs. the velocity on both his cutter and his fastball can reach up to 93/94, and the velocity on the slider and changeup can go down to the low 80s.

this is really a hell of a profile for a pitcher. basically, because of his command and because of the differences in velocity and because of the differences in movement of these 4 distinct pitches, a hitter has to worry about covering both sides of the plate, guessing which way the ball will tail, and guessing at what velocity the ball will come in.

i think this guy is for real. not sub-2 ERA for real, but this guy is gonna be real good for a real long time.

Steags, I'm not sold on Worley quite yet but you have to like the Clemens-like body. If this control is for real, the Phils have something.
