Ah yes, I know that smell. The smell of urine. In the evening. It smells like...defeat.

I'll be in my lucky spot tonight, thinking fond thought of you all.
   2. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: September 15, 2011 at 10:27 PM (#3926267)
Yes, only one thought for all of you. But it's a find thought. I don't have many thoughts to spare, as you know.
   3. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: September 15, 2011 at 10:28 PM (#3926268)
Well, there I go again. I found a fond thought, and it's about you all.

One more typo and I will break my own fingers.

BRING.IT.ON. At least Weiland has him matched for....hmmm....age!

I'm feeling phylosophical this morning. If the Rays are good enough to sweep this series, then the Sox don't really deserve the spot anyway. I'm still thinking split!
   5. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 10:36 PM (#3926274)
Oh, did I mention I may have my head buried in the sand where rational thought is concerned...
   6. The Mighty Quintana Posted: September 15, 2011 at 10:58 PM (#3926286)
That lineup looks good on paper, let's hope they all can finish the game without getting hurt!

After blowing 2 in a row, must win game tonight for the Rays.
   8. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:08 PM (#3926292)
It would've been really nice coming into this series with a 5 game lead, but I guess changing pitchers during the 8th inning is a little too complex for Francona's strategy handbook.

Hello from Fenway.
   10. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:13 PM (#3926297)
Weiland off to a good start.
   11. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:13 PM (#3926298)
Fly...you legend. How's the atmosphere? tense I would imagine?
   12. Joel W Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:14 PM (#3926299)
Weiland!
   13. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:14 PM (#3926300)
Good inning.
   14. Gamingboy Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:14 PM (#3926301)
Weiland has number 70? Does that have any significance, or is it because, well, he's a late-season call-up.
   15. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:15 PM (#3926302)
Empty, Hugh. Nobody is here.
   16. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:18 PM (#3926304)
Usually the rookie pitchers on the Sox have numbers in the 60s, so it's a little weird to see him as #70, but not especially so.
   17. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:19 PM (#3926305)
#### weather, though. Cold. Windy. Threat of rain.
   18. Gamingboy Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:20 PM (#3926306)
It is raining, according to the TV.
   19. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:23 PM (#3926308)
Yes it is. I have a roof up in pavilion sro.
   20. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:24 PM (#3926310)
Anything less than 3/4 is a fail for the Rays. I'll be perfectly happy being 4 up with 10 to go.
   21. Famous Original Joe C Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:35 PM (#3926315)
Hey all.

Encouraging results from our young Mr. Weiland so far.
   22. Darren Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:36 PM (#3926316)
I decided this afternoon to be optimistic about Weiland. He had a nice year in AAA this year, he's got a nice little breaking ball, and now he's had a chance to get his feet wet. He may be able to give us some good work here. It wouldn't be shocking.
   23. ray james Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:37 PM (#3926318)
Wild Thing was talking about Weiland's stuff on MLB radio on my way home from work today and was most complimentary of his potential, especially his power slider. He just said the Weiland has to be consistent about staying on top of it.
   24. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:38 PM (#3926319)
As long as he's throwing strikes he can be decent. His fastball has a lot of movement, and guys don't really seem to square it up much.
   25. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:40 PM (#3926321)
Even the guys making outs are making Hellickson throw a ton of pitches. That's a good thing. The Rays rotation is quite good, but their middle relief is not too hot.
   26. ray james Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:41 PM (#3926322)
Dan, you spoke too soon. Crawford is up now.
   27. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:41 PM (#3926323)
Why is it that Crawford always swings at the first pitch, unless it's a fastball up and over the plate?
   28. Darren Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:42 PM (#3926324)
Hellickson is frustrating--looks like they could kill every pitch but he mixes it up so well and has that great change.

Geeze, orsillo is wrong so often.
   29. ray james Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:43 PM (#3926325)
Does the kid look rattled? A wild pitch and balk in the same inning?
   30. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:44 PM (#3926328)
Geeze, orsillo is wrong so often.

What did Orsillo say? I'm in Florida, so I'm stuck with the Rays feed.
   31. Gamingboy Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:48 PM (#3926331)
Weiland doing good so far, and Pedroia's play there certainly helps.
   32. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:51 PM (#3926334)
Dan, you spoke too soon. Crawford is up now.
8-pitch AB, for the record.
   33. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:53 PM (#3926335)
38 pitches for Hellickson through 2 scoreless innings with just 1 base runner.
   34. Gamingboy Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:55 PM (#3926337)
I apologize to the Red Sox fans.
   35. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:55 PM (#3926338)
Are you ####### joking, Scutaro?
   36. Darren Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:55 PM (#3926339)
Well, that was fun.
   37. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:55 PM (#3926340)
Too many broken bats.
   38. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:56 PM (#3926341)
WTF. They are going to have to do something about the maple bats sooner or later before someone gets hurt.
   39. ray james Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:56 PM (#3926342)
Shitass luck.
   40. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:57 PM (#3926344)
Wow, never seen that before ...
   41. Darren Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:57 PM (#3926345)
That is some really bad luck, and though this just be my frustration talking, I feel like Scutaro should handled that better. I this needs to back off or knock the bat away and at least stop the ball.
   42. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:58 PM (#3926346)
Are you ####### joking, Scutaro?
Oh come on.
   43. ray james Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:58 PM (#3926348)
Ah ####.
   44. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:59 PM (#3926349)
Well, ####.
   45. Gamingboy Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:59 PM (#3926350)
Again, I apologize to the Red Sox fans. I said Weiland was doing well, then....
   46. Dan Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:59 PM (#3926351)
And the inning only extends because of the freak play, and now a ####### 3 run homer. ####### absurd.
   47. Darren Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:59 PM (#3926352)
Perfect, just perfect. I could feel that coming, even when he was down 0-2.
   48. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 15, 2011 at 11:59 PM (#3926353)
Inning stays alive (and scores a run) due to a broken bat and results in a 2-run HR. Sounds about right.
   49. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:00 AM (#3926355)
This team is done.
   50. ray james Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:00 AM (#3926356)
3-run homer, Biff.
   51. Darren Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:00 AM (#3926357)
3-run HR Biff. It's a 4-run play.
   52. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:01 AM (#3926359)
Or even a 3-run HR. Clearly I was paying very, very close attention.
   53. Darren Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:03 AM (#3926360)
I think our plan should be to tell David Price that Ortiz is gunning for some milestone HR and that, if he could allow 3 HRs in his game, we'd pay him some big money to sign the baseballs.
   54. Darren Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:04 AM (#3926362)
This team is not done. I predict they come back and hit Hellickson hard the second time through the lineup tonight.
   55. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:06 AM (#3926363)
Of course that goes foul. Rays get hits on broken bat dribblers, we can't even get line drives to stay fair.
   56. Darren Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:06 AM (#3926364)
I'm not sure if you guys know this, but it's a game of inches.
   57. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:06 AM (#3926366)
Why do umps have uniform numbers anyway?
   58. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:07 AM (#3926368)
Great AB from Salty.
   59. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:07 AM (#3926369)
I'm beyond livid at this point, what a ####### joke. At this rate I'll be stunned if the series in Baltimore to end the year means anything.
   60. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:07 AM (#3926370)
Sells programs.
   61. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:10 AM (#3926372)
Hellickson isn't really throwing many strikes.
   62. ray james Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:10 AM (#3926373)
Gee, maybe they'll score a bunch here and make a game of it.
   63. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:10 AM (#3926374)
Hey, another ball foul by 3 inches.
   64. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:11 AM (#3926375)
C'mon, it's early innings, we can get 4 back...
   65. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:11 AM (#3926376)
Looked fair from the cheap seats.
   66. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:12 AM (#3926377)
That greatest sports moment poll is nuts. They currently have the Sox 2004 title against the B's 2011 title, and the Sox lead only 55.29% to 44.71%.

I mean really now. 39 years versus 86, it shouldn't be nearly that close.
   67. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:13 AM (#3926380)
People have short memories.
   68. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3926384)
Jaso is a train wreck on defense.
   69. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3926385)
at least they've already got Hellickson up to 60 pitches, that's something.
   70. Gamingboy Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:16 AM (#3926387)
Why do umps have uniform numbers anyway?

To sell uniforms! Junior just loves getting all dressed up as their favorite umpires, like Tim McClelland and Jim Joyce! And Joe West is always a popular one around Halloween.
   71. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:16 AM (#3926388)
and Weiland won't be the last guy to give up a homer to Longoria, last I checked, he's still really good.
   72. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:16 AM (#3926389)
Holy crap where was that?
   73. ray james Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:17 AM (#3926390)
That was close.

Nice to see the other guy get squeezed once in a blue moon.
   74. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:17 AM (#3926391)
Don't see how Pedroia takes that pitch. Don't see how the umpire calls that a ball. Will certainly take it.
   75. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:17 AM (#3926393)
Pedroia's lucky as hell that wasn't called strike 3.

I fully expect Gonzalez to hit into a double play anyway.
   76. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:18 AM (#3926395)
oooh, in play run(s)...
   77. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:19 AM (#3926397)
That was a ####### awful AB by Gonzalez.
   78. ray james Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:19 AM (#3926398)
I like he's putting the tying run on base.
   79. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:19 AM (#3926399)
This is not going to be a good decision by Maddon to IBB here.
   80. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:20 AM (#3926400)
Well that's one run and now Youk should take this insult personally and make them pay! Pay, I tell ya!
   81. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:21 AM (#3926403)
Intentionally walking the bases loaded with 2 outs is so ####### stupid. Please punish that, Youk.
   82. Gamingboy Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:23 AM (#3926405)
Maddon is REALLY lucky there.
   83. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:23 AM (#3926406)
One run out of bases loaded with 1 out and the 3-4-5 hitters due up. ####### weak.
   84. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:24 AM (#3926407)
Seriously, what the #### was Gonzalez doing swinging at that pitch with a 1-0 count and a guy having trouble throwing strikes with the bases loaded? He ####### blew the whole inning.
   85. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:24 AM (#3926408)
Damn, well we got one back. Plenty of time. Besides, winning this game would be a bonus.
   86. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:24 AM (#3926409)
He's not lucky, he has competent pitching. It's tough to recognize because we don't have any.
   87. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:25 AM (#3926411)
Trever Miller? What the hell? Last I heard of him was when he was part of the Rasmus trade.
   88. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:26 AM (#3926412)
This team is so ####### awful at hitting with the bases loaded.
   89. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:30 AM (#3926416)
And now Pedroia is making errors on double play balls? Yeah, this team is gonna win a lot of games playing like this.
   90. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:30 AM (#3926417)
NOW, I'm not happy. An error pretty much says it all.
   91. Dan Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:30 AM (#3926419)
It's a good thing we have a manager who's so good at keeping an even keel. Otherwise we'd probably have a losing record since the beginning of August.

Oh, right.
   92. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:31 AM (#3926421)
Damn, well we got one back. Plenty of time. Besides, winning this game would be a bonus.
Yeah, I would view winning this game as stealing one given the pitching matchup.
   93. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:31 AM (#3926422)
I hate this team so much.
   94. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:32 AM (#3926424)
No Tampa fans in here?

Let's go Devil Rays!
   95. Fly is talking about film ####ing magic Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:33 AM (#3926426)
Mets suck.
   96. Gamingboy Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:33 AM (#3926427)
I'm just here to watch some good pennant race baseball.

Yes, yes they are: .250/.301/.351

   99. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:34 AM (#3926431)
Terrible bunt.
   100. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: September 16, 2011 at 12:35 AM (#3926432)
That was Hernandez-esque.
