Maybe this makes me a bad Red Sox fan, but I'm actually really excited to see Moore pitch.

Ah, nice to see that they've decided to take a look at Montero behind the plate.
   4. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 10:28 PM (#3933442)
The Rays seem like a spectacularly poor choice of opponent to put Montero behind the plate against. They're going to run wild on his arm.
   5. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 10:30 PM (#3933444)
Not to be too much of a conspiracy theorist, but it seems like Girardi might want to make Montero look bad behind the plate so he can keep playing his preferred defensive guys like Cervelli and Romine.

Plus it potentially reduces the Yankees' chances in this game, thereby increasing the pressure on the Red Sox.
   6. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 10:34 PM (#3933446)
Neither of those things are probably Girardi's actual thought processes, but I thought they were interesting (if slightly insane) angles.

From today's LoHud:

n terms of raw entertainment, it didn’t get much better than Russell Martin’s pregame interview this afternoon. There’s obviously a way we’ve all come to expect athletes to respond when asked about opponents, but Martin pulled no punches when asked about the Red Sox.

“Anything to get the Red Sox out would be awesome for me,” he said. “… They are fun to play against just because they have a quality team, and they’re gritty, and they play hard and stuff, but I’d love to see them lose.”

Why?

“Because I hate the Red Sox,” Martin said.

Does Colon even make the playoff rotation at this point?
   11. Dale Sams Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:18 PM (#3933500)
All right Yanks, you're about as convincing as the Black Sox here.

16 pitches ... 3-0 lead for Tampa???

Time for Fat Bastard to take another trip to the D.R.
   13. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:21 PM (#3933510)
Well, at this rate, I guess I'll finally get to see Brackman or Betances ...
   14. Dale Sams Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:21 PM (#3933511)
Where's Girardi?
   15. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:24 PM (#3933514)
Have to say, really looking forward to seeing Matt Moore in this start, he showed some serious stones in the game he pitched against the Red Sox ...
   16. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:25 PM (#3933516)
Where did that miss?
   17. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:27 PM (#3933518)
I guess that pitch was farther inside than I realized.
   18. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:28 PM (#3933519)
A Price - Shields - Moore - Hellickson - Davis rotation is pretty scary going forward.
   19. Mayor Blomberg Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:32 PM (#3933524)
Does Colon even make the playoff rotation at this point?

How's Phil Hughes' back? Or are you figuring CC, Nova, AJ, Freddy?
   20. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:33 PM (#3933525)

How's Phil Hughes' back? Or are you figuring CC, Nova, AJ, Freddy?

What a nightmare.
   21. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:34 PM (#3933527)
I figured Hughes' back would be recovered, but honestly I think the Yankees might go with a 3 man rotation at this point. It worked in 2009, and they're in a similar situation. CC, Nova, Garcia seem like the only guys they can trust. And Garcia himself is kinda iffy against decent offenses.
   22. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:36 PM (#3933531)
Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a bit too high ...
   23. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:36 PM (#3933532)
That throw just went into the stands on the fly? Holy ####, that was amazingly awful.

Since he cut his finger a while back, Garcia's been kinda iffy against ALL offenses ...
   25. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:37 PM (#3933535)
Imagine how cool it would be for the Red Sox to have a fast LF like that who puts pressure on the defense, even on his routine grounders.
   26. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:39 PM (#3933536)
I was NOT expecting a triple on that.
   27. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:39 PM (#3933537)

How's Phil Hughes' back?

MLBN crawler says Hughes got an epidural injection, so I guess they might do a C-section.
   30. Dan Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:40 PM (#3933541)
Colon is throwing BP right now.

4-9 in the Rays lineup is all lefties and switch-hitters. No way the binder allows Joe to bring in a righty if he goes to the pen next inning. Gotta wait till Jennings is up.
   33. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 22, 2011 at 11:46 PM (#3933552)

   41. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 23, 2011 at 12:05 AM (#3933577)
[40] It's 5-0 with a AAA lineup. If Girardi's not going to bother trying to win, we might as well see the youngsters.

Brackman had a tough year, but clearly pitched much, much better once he reverted his mechanics.
   42. Dan Posted: September 23, 2011 at 12:05 AM (#3933579)
6 strikeouts out of 7 outs over 9 hitters.

Black Sox indeed. Really, Jeter?
   55. Dan Posted: September 23, 2011 at 12:18 AM (#3933600)
When was the last time Jeter made 2 errors in a game? Hell, in the first 4 innings of a game?
   56. Dr. Vaux Posted: September 23, 2011 at 12:18 AM (#3933601)
The AL playoffs are going to be ugly this year. The Yankees and Red Sox had effective pitching this year, but they don't right now. The Tigers have one effective pitcher and won a weak division, and the Rangers have guys with good numbers, but they can't really be trusted.
   57. Dan Posted: September 23, 2011 at 12:20 AM (#3933603)

"To win the division. Now that they've won it, they're pulling their pants down and bending over."

Are you a Sox fan? You can't be serious. You really think Colon would intentionally watch his ERA balloon up to non-respectable numbers just to stick it to the Red Sox. He had nothing tonight and hasn't his last handful of starts.

So after winning the division the Yankees should play their A-lineup, and their hearts out, because the Red Sox can't win a series at HOME against the ####### Orioles with their playoff lives supposedly on the line. Please.
