BABIP not on our side today.

Scutaro ####### sucks.

####### Scutaro.
   4. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:32 PM (#3879098)
Scutaro can go ####### die.
   5. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:33 PM (#3879099)
############# SCUTARO
   6. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:33 PM (#3879100)
ARE YOU ####### KIDDING SCUTARO? YOU ####### THROW AWAY A DOUBLE PLAY BALL NOW?
   7. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:33 PM (#3879101)
IS SCUTARO FOR ####### REAL

CAN HE MAKE ONE ####### ROUTINE PLAY
   8. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:35 PM (#3879102)
Any time a ball is hit near Scutaro this game it is going to look like a trainwreck in slow motion.

5 ground balls this inning. One out, two runs, two men on.
   9. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:35 PM (#3879103)
5 straight grounders, 3 of which were routine plays, and we're down 2-0 with just 1 out. Unbelievable.

My post #1 is looking awfully prescient.
   10. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:36 PM (#3879104)
Lackey is completely flipping out but I can't blame him for once.
   11. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:37 PM (#3879105)
I hope Lackey breaks Scutaro's nose after this inning.
   12. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:38 PM (#3879106)
Well, that wasn't a ground ball at least.
   13. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:41 PM (#3879107)
Scutaro didn't throw it away! Success!
   14. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:45 PM (#3879111)
JD Drew rolled over the ball and hit a one hopper to the second baseman.

I am SHOCKED.

Shocked, I tell you!
   15. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:47 PM (#3879115)
Shields seems to have lost the strike zone for a moment here.
   16. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:49 PM (#3879117)
HELL ####### YES REDDICK!
   17. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:49 PM (#3879118)
Kilt it.
   18. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:49 PM (#3879119)
Reddick! I'm sure at some point he'll stop hitting, but until that day comes...
   19. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:51 PM (#3879120)
Drew has to sit when Crawford comes back, right? Please?
   20. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:52 PM (#3879122)
That ball was ####### demolished too. Reddick has light tower power.
   21. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:54 PM (#3879125)
Drew has to sit when Crawford comes back, right? Please?

I think Drew's suckitude and Reddick's production have forced this decision at this point. I will be shocked, dismayed, disappointed, and angry at Tito and Theo if Reddick doesn't take over RF when Crawford is back.
   22. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 08:55 PM (#3879126)
Reddick's SLG is higher than Drew's OPS at this point by 60+ points right now. There's absolutely no way they can sit Reddick in favor of Drew. It would be completely unjustifiable.
   23. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:07 PM (#3879128)
And Lackey still sucks.
   24. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:20 PM (#3879131)
Um...runs!
   25. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:22 PM (#3879132)
Really wasn't expecting to have a shot at winning this game, especially after that first inning. Shields is usually lights out at the Trop. Very glad to be wrong!
   26. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:28 PM (#3879137)
Kind of disappointing not to score another run after having Drew on 2nd with no outs, but it's hard to complain too much about a 3 run inning.
   27. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:38 PM (#3879141)
Solid inning from Lackey. Only hit was a grounder that Pedroia could've fielded with better positioning. DUnno why they don't play Joyce to pull, he's pretty much a dead pull guy as far as I know. I guess I could check his actual spray charts...
   28. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:40 PM (#3879145)
Ellsbury power!

This game has gone pretty well ever since Scutaro's foibles.
   29. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:40 PM (#3879146)
Line drive homer for Ellsbury.
   30. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:41 PM (#3879147)
Joyce's spray charts seem to agree with my perception of him as a heavy pull hitter.
   31. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:41 PM (#3879149)
The more these dipshits say the game will be 11-9, the more Lackey settles down.

If Upton was as good a 2 strike hitter as Pedroia is, my aunt would have balls. Or something like that.

And, finally, Zimmer says Fuld is the best LF he's ever seen? Zim is getting crazy.
   32. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:44 PM (#3879153)
And, finally, Zimmer says Fuld is the best LF he's ever seen? Zim is getting crazy.

Fuld is pretty damned impressive in the outfield. He can't hit, but he's a great outfielder.
   33. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:51 PM (#3879155)
Yeah, but the "best"? I know he's good, he made a great play last night to throw out Pedroia. I thought that was a double right off the bat given how far from Fuld was from it. But the best in the last 50+ years? Yikes. He's 29. Where's he been?
   34. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:54 PM (#3879157)
He's been in AAA because he hasn't hit especially well and because he was in the Cubs organization, who seem pretty bad at recognizing players' strengths.
   35. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:55 PM (#3879158)
Jesus, Drew. That was awful.
   36. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:56 PM (#3879159)
They better not trade Reddick for Beltran.
   37. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 09:59 PM (#3879160)
I mean, I wouldn't even do that deal straight up, and it's likely the Mets would want more.
   38. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:02 PM (#3879165)
Saying Fuld can't hit is an insult to guys who can't hit. Since his hot 14 game stretch to start the season, he's hitting 196/262/280 in 209 PA's. The only reason he even looks remotely serviceable right now, is because LF's this year are all playing like #####. In a normal year he's below replacement level, he's a lemon.
   39. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:02 PM (#3879166)
"Obliques", recently discovered by McCarver. Dear lord.
   40. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:02 PM (#3879167)
I thought that was a double right off the bat given how far from Fuld was from it.

Really? I thought that was an obvious single and I was shocked Pedroia tried for second.
   41. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:03 PM (#3879168)
Uh oh, I think he's got a bruised kneecap.
   42. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:04 PM (#3879169)
40...yeah, it was a bloop, Fuld was fairly deep...yeah, it looked like an easy double, then it turned into an easy out.
   43. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:04 PM (#3879170)
I'd be pissed if they traded Reddick for anyone who'd realistically be available.
   44. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:04 PM (#3879171)
I mean, he had a chance for 2 until he didn't.
   45. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:07 PM (#3879172)
I've sat Joyce for the past couple of games in one of my leagues. Yay!
   46. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:07 PM (#3879173)
He was out.
   47. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:12 PM (#3879175)
Who was?
   48. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:14 PM (#3879176)
Upton at 2nd
   49. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:19 PM (#3879178)
Can we please see Navarro at SS instead of Scutaro tomorrow?
   50. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:23 PM (#3879179)
Shoppach throws well and hits lefties. I wouldn't mind seeing him signed for a year to platoon with Salty in 2012 while we wait to see if Lavarnway will catch in the majors.
   51. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:24 PM (#3879181)
This will be a successful outing for Lackey if he can get through this inning without allowing any runs.
   52. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:28 PM (#3879183)
Pull him. Now.
   53. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:35 PM (#3879187)
Whatever Pedroia has been doing to up his power to hit 400+ ft homers and opposite field homers, I approve of it.
   54. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:38 PM (#3879188)
Are Pedroia and Ellsbury both going to hit 20+ HR this season? I don't think even the biggest optimist would've hoped for that, especially considering how much offense is down around the game over the last few years.
   55. Fernigal McGunnigle Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:39 PM (#3879190)
"Obliques", recently discovered by McCarver. Dear lord.

Early in the game, Joe Castiglione talked about going into the Fox booth and being "serenaded" by McCarver, and then brought up, horror of horrors, the album Tim McCarver Sings Selections from The Great American Songbook.
   56. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:40 PM (#3879192)
Hell, after last season if Ellsbury had just been average I would consider that a huge success. He's having almost a superstar season right now.
   57. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:44 PM (#3879197)
Hell, after last season if Ellsbury had just been average I would consider that a huge success. He's having almost a superstar season right now.

Almost? Dude is hitting .317/.377/.504 while playing excellent defense in center field and playing every day. He had a 143 wRC+ entering this game and it will be even higher after this game.
   58. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: July 16, 2011 at 10:50 PM (#3879199)
Wow, I guess I hadn't checked his numbers in a while. That's ridiculous.
   59. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:16 PM (#3879203)
Interference by the rookie catcher in his first inning of the year.
   60. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:16 PM (#3879205)
The Red Sox have gotten a few CI calls this season, haven't they?
   61. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:17 PM (#3879206)
Yes, BIff. Mainly Crawford. He gets them all the time though, it's not a new phenomenon.
   62. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:18 PM (#3879207)
Longoria's defense is really not the same this season.
   63. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:22 PM (#3879208)
This would be a great time for the first grand slam of the season.
   64. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:25 PM (#3879211)
McGee was throwing heat there. 96-97 MPH from the left side. Dunno why Maddon didn't stick with him to face Youk and then Ortiz.
   65. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:26 PM (#3879212)
Gonzalez is an unclutch loser.
   66. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:31 PM (#3879217)
Great AB by Youkilis, and a great example of bullpen roulette by Maddon. McGee looked great and struck out Gonzalez, and then he's lifted for an ineffective Russell.
   67. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:32 PM (#3879218)
Man Ortiz can't find a hole lately, but I'll take the run.
   68. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:33 PM (#3879219)
I am pleased.
   69. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:33 PM (#3879220)
Drew still sucks. If he's in the lineup on Monday I'm going to be pissed.
   70. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:36 PM (#3879221)
Why is Papelbon in a 5 run game?
   71. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:37 PM (#3879222)
Why is Papelbon in a 5 run game?

Presumably because he hasn't pitched in 6 days and he had been warming.
   72. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:40 PM (#3879223)
You should probably consider seppuku, Papelbon. You almost gave up a homer to Kotchman.
   73. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:40 PM (#3879224)
Where's Fly?
   74. Dan Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:41 PM (#3879225)
On the plus side, if Papelbon keeps inflating his ERA in non save situations he might be affordable next year.
   75. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:42 PM (#3879226)
AGon with the wheels.
   76. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:43 PM (#3879227)
I could beat AGon in a 20 yard sprint. If I could wake up 30 years younger tomorrow, I'd beat him in a fifty yard dash, backwards halfway.
   77. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: July 16, 2011 at 11:45 PM (#3879228)
Good win, good for Lackey, that sourpuss.
