2 balls that hit Beckett in the feet/legs after 3 batters. WTF?
   3. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:28 AM (#3879672)
Kotchman is shitting me - what a ####### fluke
   4. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:29 AM (#3879673)
The funny thing about Kotchman is he's not even hitting for more power or anything. He's not walking more. He's still a slow ############ who hits the ball on the ground. It's 100% a BABIP fluke.
   5. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:32 AM (#3879674)
He seems to hit vs. the Sox as well this year - two homers? Annoying
   6. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:36 AM (#3879676)
Seems like there are 5 people there
   7. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:37 AM (#3879677)
Drew chopper to second - as predictable as a Dustin Johnson collapse in a freaking major
   8. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:43 AM (#3879678)
Seems like there are 5 people there

Seriously. A weekend game during the summer against the Red Sox during a pennant race and they can't even get more than ~20,000 people? Just ####### move them to Brooklyn already.
   9. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:51 AM (#3879680)
When the #### did Jeff Niemann turn back into a good pitcher?
   10. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:52 AM (#3879681)
Here's hoping that these guys start recognizing pitches better the second time through the order.
   11. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 12:58 AM (#3879683)

Tell me about - I freaking hate the Rays and Marlins - this ######## state doesn't deserve ####
   12. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:09 AM (#3879687)
Wonder why Dusty stayed at first before....
   13. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:11 AM (#3879688)
That was an interesting breakdown comparing Damon's swing to Adrian's. I never would have thought there'd be that much similarity between those two from looking at swings in realtime.
   14. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:13 AM (#3879689)
If I'm Maddon, I'm intentionally walking Ortiz here with Drew on deck.
   15. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:15 AM (#3879691)
These guys really need to stop swinging at pitches down by their ankles. Ugh.
   16. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:17 AM (#3879692)
Jesus, Zobrist unloaded on that.
   17. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:20 AM (#3879695)
Dustin Pedroia is a ####### freak at second
   18. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:21 AM (#3879696)
Yet another highlight reel play by Pedroia. Yawn.
   19. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:22 AM (#3879697)
That was an insanely great play.
   20. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:24 AM (#3879699)
Drew continues to show absolutely nothing.
   21. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:25 AM (#3879700)
Only a Red Sox player could be this bad in his contract year , everyone else has a ####### career year - great stuff Drew.
   22. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:26 AM (#3879701)
Nice discipline so far from Reddick on this AB. At least he's learning as we go through the order unlike some of these guys.
   23. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:26 AM (#3879702)
Drew continues to show absolutely nothing.

One of the great #### me sideways questions of the year
   24. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:26 AM (#3879703)
Green light on 3-0 for Reddick. Interesting. Another sign that Francona has confidence in him, which can only be a good thing.
   25. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3879704)
Reddick should steal second on Niemann's slow delivery here.
   26. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3879705)
Hopefully next time round with top of the order
   27. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:37 AM (#3879706)
Another fantastic outing for Beckett.

Get him some ####### runs now guys!
   28. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:40 AM (#3879709)
yeah - what a great year for Becks
   29. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:40 AM (#3879710)
jesus - 3 hits for the game
   30. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:41 AM (#3879711)
God damn. I thought that was a hit up the middle off of the bat.
   31. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:41 AM (#3879712)
Scolded straight to Armand de Brignac
   32. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:44 AM (#3879713)
YOu've gotta be ####### kidding me.
   33. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:45 AM (#3879714)
This would be a great time for Gonzalez to bust out of his mini slump with a home run...
   34. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:45 AM (#3879715)
Alternatively he'll do his JD Drew impression.

####.
   35. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:47 AM (#3879716)
Hopefully next time round with top middle of the order
   36. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:48 AM (#3879717)
Josh Reddick will save us with a home run next inning. Or the inning after that since next inning 4-5-6 might go down in order.
   37. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:51 AM (#3879718)
Dustin ####### Pedroia!
   38. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:53 AM (#3879719)
Wow. Pedroia. I never get tired of watching him do that.
   39. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:53 AM (#3879720)
Dustin ####### Pedroia!

So what are the odds that Cano wins the gold glove?
   40. Mattbert Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:57 AM (#3879722)
Seriously. A weekend game during the summer against the Red Sox during a pennant race and they can't even get more than ~20,000 people? Just ####### move them to Brooklyn already.

They had big crowds the first two of the series. I couldn't get reasonably priced tickets for yesterday's game, in fact.

It is probably a bit light today because this game was originally Family Day at the ballpark...and then ESPN moved the start to 8pm for SNB. Oops.
   41. Darren Posted: July 18, 2011 at 01:58 AM (#3879724)
@39--impossible.
   42. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:01 AM (#3879726)
So why can't any grounder find a ####### hole? Ugh.
   43. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:02 AM (#3879727)

Saturdays in the summer are usually concerts after the game though. That might be why you couldn't get tickets yesterday?
   44. Mattbert Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:04 AM (#3879729)

Ah, that's good to know. I've only been a St. Pete resident for a week and a half, so I had no idea.
   45. Austin Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:05 AM (#3879731)
Since when is Jeff Niemann a strikeout machine, especially against an offense as potent as that of the Red Sox?

I also noticed that he had a ground ball rate of 100% for innings 1-3, 0% for innings 4-5, and then 100% again for innings 6-7. Weird.
   46. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:05 AM (#3879732)
@39--impossible.

You're naivety is adorable.

Ah, that's good to know. I've only been a St. Pete resident for a week and a half, so I had no idea.

Weren't you previously in England? Or am I confusing you with someone else?

   49. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:09 AM (#3879738)
Who were those dickheads saying that Ellsbury got terrible jumps on the ball. Those were two straightaway CF shots and he nailed them both.
   50. Darren Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3879739)
You're naivety is adorable.

Pedroia is a short white guy who is constantly diving for balls. No way he loses this to Cano if he stays healthy.
   51. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3879740)
There have sure been a lot of warning track fly balls today.
   52. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3879741)
Three great jumps and good routes.
   53. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3879742)
Ellsbury's defense has been superlative this year too.
   54. Darren Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:12 AM (#3879745)
I don't think Ellsbury nailed that first one. He got turned around but it was an easy fly ball.

Beckett's lived dangerously tonight--a lot of long-ish flies.
   55. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:15 AM (#3879747)
Josh Reddick will save us with a home run next inning. Or the inning after that since next inning 4-5-6 might go down in order.

So close...

Weren't you previously in England? Or am I confusing you with someone else?

No, you are correct. We just moved back to the motherland after 3.5 years in exile over there.
   57. Darren Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:17 AM (#3879752)
Niemann's not this good. Jeez.
   58. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:17 AM (#3879753)
No, you are correct. We just moved back to the motherland after 3.5 years in exile over there.

Good to know I'm not losing my mind.

I've been in Jacksonville for the last 14 months or so. Maybe we could meet up for a game at the Trop sometime before the end of the season.
   59. Darren Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:18 AM (#3879754)
Hey, I have family in both those areas. Maybe I'll drop in on each of you. :)
   60. Mattbert Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:19 AM (#3879755)
Sounds like a plan, Dan. I think JGLB is also up in that neck of the woods; he was in Gainesville for a while, but I think he moved as well.
   61. Darren Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:20 AM (#3879756)

This is also funny in that, no one in New England would say "I'm in Connecticut and you're in Maine--we should get together!" Funny how that works.
   62. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:25 AM (#3879758)
I've been meaning to get down to a game in St. Pete anyway, just haven't actually gotten around to doing it.
   63. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:33 AM (#3879760)
What a ####### dump.
   64. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:34 AM (#3879761)
What a ####### dump.

Indeed. Brooklyn Rays (or Robins maybe?) can't come soon enough.
   65. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:40 AM (#3879763)
Pedroia!

Now please convert the leadoff double, Sox.

####, Gonzalez got under that one.
   66. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:41 AM (#3879764)
Going to strand this lead off double and lose bottom 9
   67. Fancy Pants Handle struck out swinging Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:43 AM (#3879767)
Wow, Farnsworth really got squeezed there...
   68. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:45 AM (#3879768)
Wow, Farnsworth really got squeezed there...

With his reputation, is it any wonder?
   69. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:45 AM (#3879769)
Clearly a strike. Not sure what Ortiz was looking for.
   70. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:45 AM (#3879770)
Great. Now Drew is up instead of Reddick with 2 on and 2 outs. Wonderful.
   71. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:46 AM (#3879771)
####### Drew - great - game over
   72. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:46 AM (#3879772)
little dribbler to second in 4,3,2,1
   73. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:46 AM (#3879773)
Best possible outcome here will be a walk. Drew's not doing anything else. Pray for 4 balls.
   74. Mattbert Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:46 AM (#3879774)
Here comes the 4-3 or 4-6. Phil may murder a customer.
   75. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:48 AM (#3879775)
c'mon josh
   76. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:48 AM (#3879776)
Jokes on you, Farnsworth. YOu shoulda grooved one there.

C'mon Reddick! Grand slam #1 on the season right here man!

Goddamnit, I thought he'd demolish that pitch.

I'm sure I'll be frustrated but it'll be hard to be disappointed winning 1 out of 3 with the pitching matchups in this series. Granted I expected to lose yesterday and win today, but the order swapping doesn't change anything. A win today would just be gravy.
   82. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 02:55 AM (#3879785)

   84. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:02 AM (#3879789)
Zobrist kinda scares me here. He's a very good fastball hitter. He could end this with one swing...
   85. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:02 AM (#3879790)
Nice ####### defense, Varitek. Jesus ####### christ.

   87. Answer Guy. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:05 AM (#3879792)
Ugh...what a waste of a gem by Beckett. I'd say that, given their rotation, that this could be the start of a swoon...but they do go to Baltimore next.

Walk off RBI on the way
   90. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:08 AM (#3879796)
Bard had Zobrist K'ed. ####### bullshit that Longoria even got to bat.
   91. Answer Guy. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:10 AM (#3879797)
They get out of it. The annoying thing about being the ESPN Sunday Night game, and the Sox are there more often than anyone it seems, is that even very low scoring games run until at least 11 on a work night.

I like Ells v Howell here for some reason
   95. Answer Guy. Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:16 AM (#3879801)
I think it's awesome that opposing managers are bringing in LOOGYs now to face Ellsbury. That's a sign of arrival there.
   96. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:17 AM (#3879802)
Bad call on the Scutaro walk too, although it was closer to borderline unlike Bard's clear strike 3 to Zobrist.
   97. Dan Posted: July 18, 2011 at 03:18 AM (#3879803)
