Oh, I thought that the Cuba Gooding theory would have been that that he stopped doing good work after "SHOW ME THE MONEY!"

Wow - Brilliant - that movie in the army or navy or whatever with De Niro realy sucked , didn't it??

Men of Honor.

I'm a sucker for exactly that kind of melodramatic crap, and Gooding did about as much with the material as he could but...yeah, it was pretty bad.

If he could stay healthy for the playoffs the drop off from Youkilis would not be too terribly painful.

   124. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:14 AM (#3938023)
Crawford batting 2nd has been an unmitigated disaster.
   125. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:14 AM (#3938024)
Crawford actually hit a ball well.

That's the thing with his season - most of the time he's bad, and when he's good, he still makes outs. It's bad play and bad luck, that's how you get sub-replacement play.

I dunno, the CGI in the trailer looks horrifying (to say nothing about the staggering number of cliches they manage to pack into 2 minutes).

I'll go see it, since the Red Tails are a fantastic story, but I don't have much in the way of hopes for it.

2-2 Rays, Raul Valdes warming, y'all had better take of your own business tonight ...
   127. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3938026)
Crawford's had more at'em balls than anyone else on the team, despite rarely hitting the ball well. Such a shitty season.
   128. Lassus Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3938027)
Ellsbury has been beyond awesome.

BTW, as far as Scutaro, as was interrupted last night, this is a great, great documentary, especially in retrospect: A Player to be Named Later, which focuses on a few minor-leaguers, one of whom is Scutaro. Highly recommended.
   129. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:15 AM (#3938028)

It really is Hard To Explain, why this ####### blind slow #### is batting second
   131. Gamingboy Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:16 AM (#3938031)
Yeah, but you sometimes can't judge CGI by trailers. Agree on the cliches, though, but this is a Lucasfilm production, wouldn't be surprised if old George told the people doing it they had to do it that way.
   132. Hugh Jorgan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:16 AM (#3938032)
Actually I blame Tito for this. Why, why, why is he hitting 2nd? Scutaro or Pedroia. It is such a simple decision. Hell, bat Gonzo 2nd, just anyone else will do better.

I've never understood complaining about lineups. The numbers just ain't there

We've all seen the numbers, but logic would suggest that you wouldn't put one of your worst hitters in a position in the lineup where he will simply get more AB's then someone down the order. Just based on that simple fact, it seems a dumb decision to have Crawford 2nd as opposed to 8th. And of course the the guy leading off and the 3 guys behind him are really, really good and get on like 40% of the time, so it's a wasted space, a black hole if you will..
   139. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:26 AM (#3938046)

Cletus! Rays killer at 1st!
   144. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:32 AM (#3938054)
Damon got picked off first and got into a run down. 2B (or SS) tagged him out, and then threw home and got Longoria trying to score.
   145. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:33 AM (#3938056)
Apparently the Red Sox heard that running into double plays on the base paths is the new hotness.
   146. Gamingboy Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:34 AM (#3938058)
Matt Wieters has a literal cannon for an arm and must use a hand prosthesis due to a MLB ruling.
   147. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:34 AM (#3938059)
Or maybe it was Posada who threw home? I'm not sure who was in what position at the end of the pickoff play, trying to watch 2 games at once here!
   148. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:35 AM (#3938060)
What was Pedroia doing there? If Weiters had thrown the ball to base, he would barely have had time to slide before being tagged out.
   149. NTNgod Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:35 AM (#3938061)

Typically no, but batting a guy with a sub .300 OBP 2nd is just aggressively stupid.
   152. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:37 AM (#3938064)
The Red Sox use of Crawford strongly suggests they think he's better than he's played. That's not a Francona thing.
   153. Miserable, Non-Binary Candy is all we deserve CoB Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:38 AM (#3938065)
Yeah, on replays, it was Posada.

Tonight, at least ...
   156. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:40 AM (#3938068)
Keeping Crawford in the 2 spot in the order would make more sense if the move had resulted in him putting together better PAs as he focuses more on getting on base, etc. but he's been the same clueless hitter he was batting down in the order.
   157. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:41 AM (#3938069)
4-2 Rays on a Shoppach homer.

Beckett is on my team, and I still can't stand watching him. He is painfully slow.

And walking Reynolds? Come on, brother!

Meanwhile, the NESN announcing team seems to be harping on Beckett and Saltalamacchia having trouble communicating.

Sure it will -- with an out.

It might not go so well in the middle, though.
   163. Gamingboy Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:48 AM (#3938079)
One good thing about Beckett: You can go take a crap between pitches.
   164. Phil Coorey. Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:48 AM (#3938081)
Beckett really ain't that good this month
   165. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:49 AM (#3938082)
I really hate throwing Chris Davis a strike at 1-2. Dude has no discipline.
   166. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:50 AM (#3938087)
So what are the odds that Beckett can strand these 2 RISP?

   173. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:54 AM (#3938096)
Good lord. No one on this team can play baseball, can they?
   174. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:55 AM (#3938098)
Beckett's control looks terrible, which is typical of what happens when I tune in.

Gets ahead of every batter and then either walks him or throws a really bad pitch. The strike to Davis was just a changeup that missed really badly.
   175. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:56 AM (#3938099)
That was a Sox-ian PA by Hardy.
   176. Phil Coorey. Posted: September 27, 2011 at 12:56 AM (#3938100)

Hughes looks like crap. 2 line outs to center followed by a walk to Longoria.

   185. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:01 AM (#3938113)
Gameday makes it look like Hughes was getting squeezed, so I assume Martin stepped over the line of arguing balls/strikes.
   186. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:01 AM (#3938114)
Beckett works so slowly that I wish all the pant-pissers' claims that he's going to give up all of these runs would come true just so the Sox would bring in someone who works a decent pace.
   187. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:01 AM (#3938115)
Even when are good starters have "good" games,, they're not that good. They're just decent. What I would give for a 8 IP, 1 Run, 10 K game.
