It wasn't just Josh. A decent throw has Vlad by a mile.

V Guerrero stole second? What year is it?
   203. Dan Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:15 AM (#3938140)
True. Salty was throwing really well a few weeks ago. Since then his offense and defense have both cratered. Is he just burnt out from catching so many innings? He's never really been a starting catcher before...
   204. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:16 AM (#3938141)
Beckett's got nothing. They should pull him (but have no one warming). Then again, who would they bring in?
   205. Famous Original Joe C Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:16 AM (#3938142)
I'm not watching the game. Did they let Vlad use a segway or something?
   206. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:17 AM (#3938145)
Kiss this one goodbye.
   207. Answer Guy. Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:18 AM (#3938146)
Vlad stole one other base this season. Probably against the Sox.
   208. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:18 AM (#3938147)
He cannot control his fastball at all. Right now, he's curve/change pitcher. That's not good.

A lefty to face Davis would perhaps be nice.

I don't understand how they get to 100 pitches with no one warming in the bullpen with the expanded September rosters and all.

#### that made me laugh.

Beckett has absolutely nothing - this team has nothing - they only won last night as the Yankees put out Proctor - they really are not that good
   211. Answer Guy. Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:19 AM (#3938150)
Yeah, this seems to be more managerial malpractice. But he is our best guy right now.

Here comes Andino...this would not normally cause trepidation. But he has been killing the Sox this month. Of course, who, other than Scott Proctor, hasn't?

I do not believe this ####.

Beckett blows the game. Tito leaves him in one extra batter. Even Ellsbury, had a chance to make a catch and keep the game in reach, and he can't do it.

Sorry, Darren. It's just surreal to watch from an outside perspective. I have to imagine that September for Red Sox fans has been like the Bartman game was for the Cubs fan. Over and over again.

Joe, I have no idea how you can say that.

When even Ellsbury can't come through, it's just not meant to be.

That's actually pretty typical of Ellsbury in the field. He's very good at almost making great plays. Not that changes what superstar he's been this year.

And of course, it was Andino.
   242. Dale Sams Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:26 AM (#3938187)
I suppose it's talking coals to Newcastle to mention that Andino was out by a mile but that defensive whiz Salty muffed it.

I bet he'd be a pretty good manager for them. I just think he's the kind of guy - a pure players' manager - that comes with an expiration date. And it seems to have come.

Pretty much word for word what I was going to say.

I just can't believe he left Beckett in with nothing and a September bullpen. I know they went extras last night, but the dude had NOTHING. Leaving him in to let the O's blow that game wide open was indefensible.
   256. Esoteric Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3938203)
Hey, I just want to say something: I'm really enjoying this because I don't like the Red Sox AND like the late-season drama...but I have nothing against the BBTF Sox fans here. I hope folks like MCoA and Darren understand that I am *absolutely not* trying to troll or anything. I'm sorry if I've upset you Sox fans, but this IS the game thread for this game...dunno where else I should be talking about this.
   257. Famous Original Joe C Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:32 AM (#3938204)
Robert Andino is a career .246/.304/.330 hitter. Entering tonight's game, he was hitting .265/.331/.342.

He is slugging .737 this month against the Red Sox.
   258. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:32 AM (#3938205)
Tito ALWAYS had a slow hook and was generally clueless about managing a pitching staff. He was lucky that it didn't cost him early.
   259. Phil Coorey. Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:35 AM (#3938211)

You can have them both.

Also, keep in the mind the Orioles are eminently capable of coughing this lead up before it's over.

Crawford hit another wonderful weak bouncer to second in this inning, so there's that.

Can't we do a Sox/Rays combined game thread for the next couple days?
   264. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:36 AM (#3938217)
Well, they did take the lead, but darn it, the Sox fought back hard that inning. I'm feeling positive.

What happened on the inside the park home run? I assume Andino didn't just put it somewhere where he could run it out, was it a misplay or a fluke bounce?

Also, keep in the mind the Orioles are eminently capable of coughing this lead up before it's over.

But these are September Orioles! The Orioles are ALWAYS good in April and/or September. It's the parts between that are the problem.

Not really. Strop and Johnson have been nails for the past several weeks. A big part of the reason why they've actually been winning games in September. Going from Gregg in the 9th inning that has been a huge upgrade.

The inside the park homer came after Ellsbury almost made a great running catch, but the ball bounced out of his glove when he hit the wall. Andido is out my plenty on a good throw.
   277. Darren Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:39 AM (#3938231)

Aceves will now pitch lights out here, just to demonstrate the incompetence of Tito's decision to stick with Beckett when he had nothing.

Joe, I have no idea how you can say that.

I mean, on the one hand, yeah, it's terrible. I hate the 2011 Red Sox. They are my least favorite team since at least 2001, and possibly of my lifetime. I'm also not in any way trying to diminish any anger or otherwise anyone is feeling. While I am often the one who feels like you guys overreact, there's no way I would try to say that right now. Let that #### out.

On the other hand, I mean, it's just so terrible, so surreal, so massive in scope and drama, that I don't know, it's also become kind of amazing. I mean, this is just ####### NUTS.

   288. Chip Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:42 AM (#3938244)
Remy and Orsillo talking about Beckett looking fatiqued last inning; in fact he was fatigued and had lost his command even before the 6th. And yet Aceves was up only briefly earlier in the game before sitting down. Which might explain why he's in the game now - if you get him up multiple times tonight after using him for an extended stretch last night, you've effectively burned him.
   289. nick swisher hygiene Posted: September 27, 2011 at 01:42 AM (#3938245)
