From Extra Bases; I think Carfado hit the bottle early:

Beckett has been relieved by Daniel Bard. Beckett threw 108 pitches in six innings, allowed seven hits and six runs. Not what the Red Sox were looking for.

I can't say I blame him.

We're talking about the same guy who couldn't get out of an inning in a blowout against the Rays' AAAA players the other day right? The one who threw 7 strikes out of 27 pitches?

We're talking about the same guy who made his MLB *debut*, against his life-long team's arch-rivals, in his first *relief appearanc of the year, after 3 weeks off?

I'm not suggesting that he's going to have more appearances where he's going to throw under 25% of his pitches for strikes, but if the Red Sox hopes come down to hoping Betances can out pitch David Price on Wednesday then I don't think they're in a very good position.

Not a lot of people in ATL actually give a #### about baseball, or, really pro sports.

The 2,000 people at Turner Field tonight beg to differ!

Either there's a misprint, or the Braves actually drew 42,597 tonight. There must have been a promotion where the first 10,000 people who showed up were a guaranteed lifetime of not being audited by the IRS.

Meanwhile, has there ever been an also-ran that's had a more thoroughly enjoyable September than the Orioles? They've tortured every contender and pretender without fear or favor.
