I love it that Salty actually can throw well now.

Do something Adrian.
   103. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 04:50 AM (#3885387)
Also, Lavarnway wears his helmet facing forward under his mask like Saltalamacchia does. It would be cool to have 2 of the only catchers in the league who do that on our team.
   104. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 04:57 AM (#3885388)
Oh fun. Crawford's going to have another miserable AB with a shot at ending it. I want Reddick hitting 6th, Salty 7th, and Crawford 8th please.
   105. plink Posted: July 26, 2011 at 04:59 AM (#3885390)
You could visibly see the umpire decide the 1-0 was a strike while it was halfway to the plate.
   106. plink Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:00 AM (#3885392)
Which it arguably was, but still....
   107. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:00 AM (#3885393)
Has Crawford never seen a slider before? If you only saw him tonight, you'd think not.

Christ. He really looks bad tonight.

Thought going through my head before that last pitch: "there's no way Crawford takes a walk here"

Sometimes, I hate being right.
   110. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:01 AM (#3885396)
#### off, Crawford.

I can't takes any mo. Hopefully I wake up to the news that Reddick ended this with a moon shot in the bottom of the 12th.

   113. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:05 AM (#3885399)
Papi couldn't catch up with balls early 2010, ill bet his O-Swing or Z-swing or whateverthefuckitis-swing (balls outside the zone swung at) wasn't nearly as bad as Crawford's have been....and since i have nothing better to do, ill try and look it up
   114. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:07 AM (#3885400)
How the #### do you walk ####### Francoeur????
   115. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:11 AM (#3885401)
I didn't think Scutaro's throw would beat Escobar there. And it almost didn't.
   116. Mike Webber Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:12 AM (#3885402)
Red Sox signed LHP Royce Ring to a minor league contract.
Ring suffered the loss in his first appearance with Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday night. The 30-year-old southpaw exercised the opt-out clause in his contract with the Mariners earlier this month after posting a 6.08 ERA and 33/11 K/BB ratio over 27 appearances with Triple-A Tacoma.

Remy suddenly acting like Hawk Harrelson. Granted, he may be a little loopy since it's past 1 AM...
   118. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:15 AM (#3885407)
Well i cant find Papi's O-Swing for just the first few months of 2010, for the whole year it's 26.7%. CC this year is 37.9%

But I guess it doesn't nessecerily mean much since Papi's O-Swing is the highest it's ever been this year, but his O-Contact is through the stratosphere.

They did try a squeeze. It was so shocking that Scutaro didn't even look for a sign. Or something.
   141. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:22 AM (#3885430)
Apparently he was in 'Francona swore never to do that again' mode.
   142. Drew (Primakov, Gungho Iguanas) Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:23 AM (#3885433)
Scutaro should be fired just for that at-bat.

Scutaro missed a squeeze, Dale

Yeah, what the deal with him going all Harrelson on us?
   146. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:24 AM (#3885437)
So... Scutaro doesn't even try to bunt, then? Brilliant stuff.

Where have you gone, Jed Lowrie, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you...
   147. Mike Webber Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:24 AM (#3885438)
Scutaro missed the sign, Reddick out easily. Scutaro hit it off the wall, got past Gordon but still managed to pickit up and throw him out by 10 feet trying for second. YUCK!
   148. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:26 AM (#3885440)
So with Aceves having pitched multiple innings yesterday, Weiland looks like last man standing after Williams, right?
   149. Drew (Primakov, Gungho Iguanas) Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:27 AM (#3885441)
I was at this game. I'm now home. Exhibit A on why Boston public transportation sucks.
   150. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:27 AM (#3885442)
Allright guys...seriously, you may lose Youk for a few days.* You still have a rotation consisting of Beckett-Lester-Lackey-Wakefield-Miller. Let's bear down, you're going to need to win games like these.

*And seriously, is there no one in Pawtucket overachieving enough to get a call-up so we don't see anymore Sutton-Navarro starts?...hmm..quick look says not really. No one with enough AAA time.
   151. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:27 AM (#3885443)
Even before this game, Scutaro had the lowest WPA on the team. Lower than McDonald, Cameron or Drew. And it went down a ####### there.
   152. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:28 AM (#3885444)
Sending down Weiland instead of DLing Drew is looking brilliant right now too.
   153. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:29 AM (#3885445)
Can't wait to see the video highlight of the busted squeeze.
   154. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:30 AM (#3885447)
Nice feed Scutaro. With a good feed Pedroia can turn that.
   155. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:32 AM (#3885449)
Can we mortgage the rest of our farm for Hanley? Middlebrooks is probably pretty attractive to a team starting Greg Dobbs at third base...
   156. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:32 AM (#3885450)
I actually like Homer Jerry.

Wait, what? Weiland is listed in Gameday as being in the bullpen... but of course I see Drew is also listed as on the bench... so MLB has the Red Sox playing with a 26-man roster. Brilliant.

So... Williams for 1 more inning and then... Which position player?
   158. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:33 AM (#3885452)
Nice feed Scutaro. With a good feed Pedroia can turn that.

I think Scutaro sucks balls tonight, but there's no way they get a double play on that ball.
   159. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:34 AM (#3885453)
Rays down 7-5 in the 9th after blowing a lead in the 7th.
   160. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:34 AM (#3885454)
more and more I think having a 70's SS (Iglesias) would be an improvement over Scoots right now.

Probably be Lackey, but it's starting to rain. They might call it.

I concur. They're getting offense from enough positions that they can punt SS if they wanted. Bring him up and just let him play 60 games and we'll see what we have.
   166. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:36 AM (#3885461)
Steal second, please.
   167. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:37 AM (#3885462)
Oh, and *once again* thinking outside the box screws Francona. For ages I wanted him to use Buchholz as a pinch runner. When he did...WHAM. For ages, I've said when you're playing games where your offense looks like they're more likely to squeeze a diamond out of their ass than drive in a winning run, you're just as well off trying a squeeze play. WHAM!...it's no ownder he plays it by the book so much.
   168. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:38 AM (#3885463)
Third try since the 9th inning with a runner on third and one out. I hope third time's the charm.
   169. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:39 AM (#3885464)
[sigh]

Just no DP here, please.

Iglesias would put up around a .400-.500 OPS. Not acceptable. Brendan Ryan would be a great fit though.

So who will be the position player who pitches after Williams? Drew? McDonald? At best, it would seem Williams has 1, maybe 2 IP left in him, looking at prior usage. I know he hasn't pitched in a week, but he's not going to go 60 pitches.
   180. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:45 AM (#3885475)

It'll be Lackey, assuming they don't score any more runs.
   185. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:48 AM (#3885483)
This was pretty inevitable. Going to Williams at all is pushing your luck, let alone for 2 innings.

Popping up your bunt attempt and hoping it randomly falls in is how it's done, eh?
   188. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:50 AM (#3885486)
This loss is entirely on Crawford. He had 2 shots to end this, one of which only needed a sac fly or a non DP grounder.
   189. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:52 AM (#3885488)
Can we pretend Randy Williams hurt himself and call Weiland back up after this game?
   190. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:52 AM (#3885489)
Well the plan was to watch this on delay when the game was over round 10pm central....glad I didn't wait to watch this in its entireity.

Disagree. This is a team loss. The Royals had their worst pitcher going against Lester. The bats did nothing.
   192. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:53 AM (#3885491)
#188--I'd say Scutaro is resting comfortably in the clubhouse with a 10-stroke lead on the field in the "who is to blame" field.

Does BABIP cover how consistently hard someone hits the ball??:)

Reddick always hits the middle of the bat it seems
