Fitting that Scutaro gets the chance to make the last out.
   202. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 26, 2011 at 05:58 AM (#3885501)
Just go away, Crawford. I cannot stand to look at you.

6 more years!!

Nice. Gonna be goat or redemption.
   204. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:00 AM (#3885504)
There is a RISP, so Scutaro should end this
   205. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:00 AM (#3885505)
well, that sucked.
   206. Dale Sams Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:00 AM (#3885506)
My complaint about BABIP is it has to make Crawford look unlucky when actually when he's feebly swinging at balls out of the zone, your BABIP isn't bad cause you're (Crawford) unlucky, it's bad because you're bad.
   207. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:00 AM (#3885507)
Taking the called strike 3. Classic.
   208. Drew (Primakov, Gungho Iguanas) Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:00 AM (#3885508)
One run on 13 hits. And Marco poleaxed us.
   209. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:01 AM (#3885509)
Till tomorrow everyone
   210. Textbook Editor Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:02 AM (#3885510)
I'd like to contribute $20 to the "buy out Scutaro's contract for the rest of the year and just release him" fund.
   211. Drew (Primakov, Gungho Iguanas) Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:02 AM (#3885511)
Talk about sucking the wind out of the hot streak sails.
   212. Drew (Primakov, Gungho Iguanas) Posted: July 26, 2011 at 06:05 AM (#3885512)
Let's trade him for Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz. The current versions.
   213. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:18 PM (#3885952)
Nice 0-2 pitch left out over the plate.
   214. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:34 PM (#3885961)
Damn, I thought that was gonna go out.
   215. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:35 PM (#3885963)
Man pedroia smoked that triple - glad he was driven in
   216. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:39 PM (#3885969)
Good job, Crawford.
   217. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:40 PM (#3885970)
Why the #### is Crawford batting 6th with Reddick 8th? Ortiz shouldn't get another pitch to hit all night.
   218. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:44 PM (#3885972)
This postage sized strike zone is going to render Miller completely incapable of pitching.
   219. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:45 PM (#3885973)
This postage stamp sized strike zone is going to render Miller completely incapable of pitching.
   220. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:47 PM (#3885974)
I'm not watching Miller ####### walk the un walkable and give up shitty errors - back later - really too busy - take care
   221. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:48 PM (#3885975)
As I typed that I checked pitch fx and realized he was ###### anyway - glad I'm out for a while
   222. Dan Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:48 PM (#3885976)
Okay, the Andrew Miller experiment is a failure. Can we trade for a real pitcher now?
   223. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 26, 2011 at 11:52 PM (#3885978)
I think we already knew the Miller experiment was a failure.
   224. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:05 AM (#3885991)
Two walks given up to Frenchy in two games.
   225. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:11 AM (#3885996)
I think I just detected shock in orsillo's voice when he said "The Royals do not score!"
   226. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:20 AM (#3886003)
JD Drew's defense in RF wasn't great in 2007 in Fenway, was it? I seem to recall him having a rough adjustment period as he got used to Fenway, much as it appears that Reddick is going through. His UZR that year was lower than the surrounding years which doesn't refute my memory, but I'd feel a lot more sane if someone else agreed with my position...
   227. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:21 AM (#3886004)
Ortiz seems to have gone back to his opposite field approach against lefties like he was doing in April. And it's working again. Amazing to watch.
   228. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:24 AM (#3886007)
6 Ks in his last 8 PA.
   229. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:28 AM (#3886010)
Crawford even had a 3-0 count there. He still Ks swinging. He has 11 walks all year.
   230. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:32 AM (#3886012)
So Miller's likely the odd man out when Buchholz gets back, right? Wake will stay on as the #5 guy?
   231. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:33 AM (#3886013)
Miller is not good.
   232. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:35 AM (#3886015)
Just ####### go away, Miller.

Anyone have an opinion on my question in #226?
   233. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:36 AM (#3886016)
Man, how useful has Aceves been this year? With so many crappy starters, he's been a great long guy.
   234. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:37 AM (#3886019)
Jesus. I wonder if this is the last we'll see of Miller.
   235. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:37 AM (#3886020)
Why the #### is he still in this ####### game?
   236. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:40 AM (#3886024)
Jesus. I wonder if this is the last we'll see of Miller.

I sure hope so.
   237. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:47 AM (#3886029)
Biff, is 226 accurate or am I nuts?
   238. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:50 AM (#3886038)
Crawford even had a 3-0 count there. He still Ks swinging. He has 11 walks all year.

This was the main reason I was advocating for Werth over Crawford (provided you could go just 4 years to get him--which we now know wasn't possible); simply because his OBP was bound to be higher than Crawford's over the long haul. (This year, even though he's batting just .217 Werth's OBP is still .325; Craford's OBP is .282.)

Crawford's never going to walk. It's kinda sad, actually. We're going to look back and pine for JD Drew's contract, I think, and wish: if only Crawford could just be as decent as JD Drew...
   239. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:51 AM (#3886039)
Sorry Dan, I don't really remember.
   240. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:52 AM (#3886042)
Miller will be released and picked up by the Brewers and go 8-0 the rest of the way.

But I'd still drop him. He's really not of any use as a reliever.
   241. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:54 AM (#3886044)
My hazy recollection is that I didn't hate Drew's D in 2007. I hated his bat, but thought he was OK in the field and could still draw a walk. But that's a long time ago now...
   242. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:58 AM (#3886045)
I think Miller might be useful as a reliever. He looked great in short stints in ST. He was throwing 96-98 on the fastball. I think he's a better use of a spot in the bullpen than Randy Williams anyway. And try him out, maybe he'll be okay. If not, whatever, you can still cut bait.
   243. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 12:59 AM (#3886047)
Here comes Crawford trying to hit the ball to the Mass Pike and striking out...
   244. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:01 AM (#3886052)
Holy ####, he took the walk!
   245. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:09 AM (#3886057)
This thread seems to somewhat agree with my recollection, especially OCD SS's post #7.
   246. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:20 AM (#3886060)
Those two runs were strange for want of a better word
   247. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:21 AM (#3886062)
That last play has ###### gameday sideways
   248. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:33 AM (#3886075)
It seems like you could dominate Crawford simply by staying on the outside part of the plate.

Agree with 242--it always seemed like that was the best hope of getting value out of him this year.
   249. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:35 AM (#3886076)

   250. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:37 AM (#3886078)
Man, Reddick almost got the first grand slam of the year for this team. Wrong part of the park, though.

Darren, do you remember Drew taking a while to adjust to playing RF in Fenway?
   251. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:42 AM (#3886086)
Reddicks and Ellsbury's balls were hammered, yet they only score one run as opposed to all the dribblers and errors - funny game
   252. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:47 AM (#3886088)
#### Heidi and the stupid food segments. I don't give a ####.
   253. Drew (Primakov, Gungho Iguanas) Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:47 AM (#3886089)
WTF is Aceves doing throwing at Butler?
   254. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:49 AM (#3886090)
I don't remember that, Dan. I remember him not hitting that first year, of course.
   255. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:50 AM (#3886091)
Aceves ###### that up pretty royally.
   256. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:52 AM (#3886095)
Sabathia seems to be coming apart in NY. He's walked the bases loaded with no outs in the 8th.

Girardi is such a bad manager. I can't believe they let him start the 8th (with no one warming!) after he'd sat for 2 rain delays.
   257. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 01:58 AM (#3886098)
Sabathia has a power over managers--he seems able to convince them somehow that he's indestructible.
   258. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:01 AM (#3886102)
3-4-5 are now 9 for 9.
   259. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:02 AM (#3886104)
Umpires just bailed Robertson out of 2 walks on 3-1 counts with the bases loaded.
   260. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:04 AM (#3886108)
I can't stand watching Crawford.
   261. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:04 AM (#3886109)
Another beauty of an AB by Crawford.
   262. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:05 AM (#3886110)
Jeez, man, would it kill you to take a pitch?

It will be interesting to see in 6 years which contract is worse: Crawford's or Werth's.
   263. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:08 AM (#3886115)
I'm beginning to wonder if Crawford or Wells will be worse. :)
   264. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:08 AM (#3886116)
#### Heidi and the stupid food segments. I don't give a ####.

The game was on in the background as I had a meeting with a rep and he asked the same question - it's embarrassing
   265. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:09 AM (#3886117)
Trying to squeeze more out of Aceves seems risky here.

But man, I don't know where'd we'd be this year without him as the long man.
   266. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:09 AM (#3886118)
I still can't believe the umpires robbed the Mariners of bases loaded walks on back to back hitters. It seems like borderline balls/strikes never go against the Yankees late in the game at NYS. Can we get ####### automated strike/ball calling yet?
   267. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3886122)
Dan, do things like rain and traffic also enrage you? It's always been that way for the Yanks.
   268. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:12 AM (#3886123)
So Aceves gets like 4 days off after the last two outings, right? And Weiland becomes the long man temporarily?
   269. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:14 AM (#3886124)
I still cant believe Crawford drew a walk - he shits me - like I said in early May - he could draw so many more walks if he wanted to.
   270. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:15 AM (#3886125)
Where did they find Jade McCarthy? She's frightening and weird.

Did Drew go on the DL?
   271. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:15 AM (#3886126)
I think I might get an Aceves T-Shirt. Well, done, sir.
   272. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:17 AM (#3886130)
   273. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:21 AM (#3886135)
Dan, for the sake of your mental health, you should stop looking at those.
   274. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:21 AM (#3886136)
Drew's on the DL , yes

I love Aceves this year - he's been insane - always can depend on him to throw strikes and not ####### nibble
   275. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:22 AM (#3886137)
Umpires just bailed Robertson out of 2 walks on 3-1 counts with the bases loaded.

The thing that caught my eye was the Mariners using Adam Kennedy as a pinch hit. I know they royally suck at hitting, but...really?
   276. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:23 AM (#3886138)
Well there was that one time, Phil. But otherwise, he's been Mendoza-esque.

As long as you don't count the start where he walked 5 consecutive Padres...

Pedroia guaranteed anther AB if he stays in.

La-la-la-la-la [covers ears]

Miller's done, right? No more starts for him? At this point I'd rather just take a flier on a AAA guy.

DAMN YOU DOUBLE POST
   282. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3886148)
trade deadline is in 5 days. So maybe Aceves starts on the 31st and then we get some kind of newly acquired starter to face Sabathia on 8/5.
   283. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3886149)
[shakes fist]
   284. Mattbert Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:32 AM (#3886153)
I would think Miller's race is run at this point. Millwood to take his place until Buchholz returns and/or a new SP is acquired?
   285. Textbook Editor Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:36 AM (#3886161)
#282 - I was wondering if Aceves would get a start. Makes sense to me.

Another walk to Francœur?
   292. Dan Posted: July 27, 2011 at 02:58 AM (#3886183)
DFA Randy Williams and Franklin Morales. Put Miller in their role in the pen. Call up Bowden for the position of "reliever who doesn't pitch in high leverage but who can in fact get outs".
   293. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 03:00 AM (#3886184)
Booooooooooo
   294. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 03:02 AM (#3886186)
I love Bowden, but how about Atchison for that job?
   295. Darren Posted: July 27, 2011 at 03:03 AM (#3886187)
Aceves and Albers--the A team.
   296. Mattbert Posted: July 27, 2011 at 03:15 AM (#3886195)
Morales has been perfectly cromulent as a Red Sox. You may not feel super confident if he comes in for a high-leverage situation, but as the fifth or sixth guy out of the pen he's absolutely fine right now.
