Lastings Milledge will make his debut tonight with Nady hitting the DL because of an emergency appendectomy.

The Milledge era begins!
   2. Joshemy Posted: May 30, 2006 at 05:55 PM (#2043937)
Lastings!

From what I am reading about the call-up, Milledge might not make it to Shea for tonight's game (or the start at least), so his debut may be tomorrrow. If he does make it though, he will start tonight it seems.
   3. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 06:00 PM (#2043944)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been this excited about a ML debut since July 21st, 2004.
   4. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#2043954)
Sweetness! After all the trade talk the last few years, it's awesome to see Milledge makes his debut with the Mets.

That being said, how far has Victor Diaz fallen the last two months?
   5. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 06:41 PM (#2044005)
There is going to be a TON of outstanding young talent on that field tonight. Jackson and Tracy for the visitors; Wright, Reyes, Soler, and Milledge (if he makes it) for the home team. You gotta love it.
   6. Joshemy Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:21 PM (#2044075)
WFAN is reporting Milledge will be at Shea, start in RF and bat 8th. WHEE!
   7. covelli chris p Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2044090)
I haven't been this excited about a ML debut since July 21st, 2004.

what about August 23, 2004?
   8. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:34 PM (#2044100)
what about August 23, 2004?

It just wasn't the same. ####### you, Jim Duquette.
   9. villainx Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:07 PM (#2044136)
i might be attending tonight's game!
   10. Rob Base Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:32 PM (#2044165)
Sign of danger for the Mets - they are 15-6 in one-run games this season. Fates being fickle, those breaks might stop going their way evenutally.

The Mets are 31-19. Their 3rd Order Pythag is ...

31-19. (1st order is 29-21, 2nd order is 30-20)

If fate either stops or starts breaking their way, things could get slightly better, much better, slightly worse, or much worse in a big hurry.

I'm not too worried considering that BP's playoff odds, which are based on pythag and PECOTA give the Mets an 86.8% chance to make the playoffs.
   12. Chris in Wicker Park Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2044236)
I really should go to the game tonight. But I've got prior plans. Ugh.
   13. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:27 PM (#2044239)
I have to go to a reception, so I'll probably miss the first inning or two. Crossing my fingers I'll be back for Milledge's first AB . . . .
   14. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 10:26 PM (#2044308)
So...what's going on guys?

I heard someone was promoted. I will conveniently be filing my work from home tonight.

Milo!
   15. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:04 PM (#2044342)
No. 44. I like it.

Hopefully he isn't Ryan Thompson nor Jay Payton.
   16. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:07 PM (#2044343)
Beato to re-enter draft

Nice job Omar.
   17. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:07 PM (#2044344)
Move over Hank, Milo's in the building! #44!
   18. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:08 PM (#2044346)
It's nice to see Milledge play but Soler's performance today is really the most important story of the day for the Mets.
   19. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:13 PM (#2044355)
Lastings sporting the Randall Simon bling.
   20. Chris Dial Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:14 PM (#2044360)
Hey, McNally, how's the view over there in second place - in the City?
   21. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:15 PM (#2044363)
He was out. That wasn't close.
   22. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:16 PM (#2044364)
He's out!
   23. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:16 PM (#2044365)
The umps really hate the Mets.
   24. Bob Koo Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:22 PM (#2044371)
Soler's catching some breaks. I thought both deep fly outs were were homers.
   25. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:23 PM (#2044373)
Soler looks like ####.
   26. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:24 PM (#2044374)
We're perpetually behind... can we get a 1-2-3 first just once?
   27. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:24 PM (#2044375)
This isn't going well.
   28. Bob Koo Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:24 PM (#2044378)
The non-Pedro/Glavine starters are continually giving up first inning runs. It's really annoying.
   29. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:27 PM (#2044386)
Soler can't throw strikes. Geez.
   30. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:28 PM (#2044387)
Only 2 first inning runs this game, he's improving!
   31. Banta Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#2044392)
Well, that was a much better bunt from Reyes.
   32. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#2044393)
Soler has the quality offspeed pitches to be a good pitcher. He just seems tentative with his fastball. His fastball isn't overpowering and he seems afraid to throw it. He's at 88-91, and that's plenty if he locates.
   33. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#2044394)
Whoa, Reyes lays down a good bunt.
   34. Flynn Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#2044395)
Reyes speed is so awesome.
   35. Flynn Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:34 PM (#2044404)
You know, Reyes is having a pretty good year.
   36. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:35 PM (#2044405)
It would be nice for Delgado to do something here.
   37. Raskolnikov Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:35 PM (#2044406)
Alright, Delgado time.
   38. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:36 PM (#2044409)
Or not. At least he beat it out.
   39. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:38 PM (#2044413)
Just missed it.
   40. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#2044417)
Damn. David is raking right now.
   41. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#2044418)
I wish Wright would have tried for a single there.
   42. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:41 PM (#2044424)
It'll be interesting to see if Valentin can turn the DP.
   43. Raskolnikov Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:43 PM (#2044435)
I'm not too worried, it looks like we're going to hit Batista pretty hard tonight.
   44. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:43 PM (#2044436)
Soler really needs to work on those first inning blues.
   45. CrosbyBird Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:44 PM (#2044437)
Just turned on the TV. Mets allowed runs in the first inning as usual, I see. Any Milledge plays yet?
   46. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:46 PM (#2044443)
Milledge due up third. Should be fun.
   47. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:46 PM (#2044445)
Nice job Alain.
   48. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:47 PM (#2044449)
Nice job Alain.
Alain Delon?

Let's go Mi-lo!
   49. Raskolnikov Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:50 PM (#2044456)
Cliff Floyd is so back.
   50. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:50 PM (#2044457)
Batista is going to give the Mets chances to get back in this game.
   51. CrosbyBird Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:50 PM (#2044458)
In the last 7 games, Floyd has raised his season OPS over 100 points.
   52. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:51 PM (#2044461)
Let's go Milledge!
   53. Bob Koo Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:51 PM (#2044462)
Two on for Milledge!
   54. Raskolnikov Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#2044463)
Okay, here comes Milledge!
   55. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#2044465)
Floyd doesn't go to third on that? Man, he's station-to-station these days . . . .
   56. CrosbyBird Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#2044467)
That was bad luck. Nice swing though.
   57. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2044469)
Damn.
   58. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2044470)
He ripped it . . . at 'em ball. Damn.
   59. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2044473)
He hit it hard. Bad Luck.
   60. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2044475)
DAMN! That was a bullet.
   61. J. Cross Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2044476)
I don't think that's the proper way to defend a bunt.
   62. Flynn Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2044477)
Wow, that's bad fundamental baseball by the Dbacks.
   63. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:54 PM (#2044478)
Nice D.
   64. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:55 PM (#2044484)
That was an unexpected way not to tie the game. A Reyes DP??? Didn't see that coming.
   65. NJ in NJ Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:55 PM (#2044486)
Good job by Met fans on the Milledge ovation.
   66. Raskolnikov Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:55 PM (#2044487)
The way things are going, I wouldn't mind flipping Delgado and Floyd in the lineup. As long as Delgado's ego can take the hit.
   67. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:55 PM (#2044488)
Reyes grounding into a double play with a man at third? That's unexpected and unfortunate.
   68. Old Matt Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:55 PM (#2044489)
Trade him, he's batting .000.
   69. Flynn Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:55 PM (#2044490)
Ugh, not a good time for bad Jose to show up.
   70. Flynn Posted: May 30, 2006 at 11:58 PM (#2044503)
Wow. Byrnes was a mile late on that swing.
   71. Chris Dial Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:01 AM (#2044514)

Streaks don't work like that.
   72. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:02 AM (#2044518)
Lo Duca sucks.
   73. Sam M. Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:02 AM (#2044524)
Lo Duca's throws seem to be getting worse and worse.
   74. Chris Dial Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:03 AM (#2044526)
Yes, the Mets should have easily goten two runs last inning. Reyes just wasn't patient enough.
   75. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:06 AM (#2044541)
Its time for Delgado to FWU.
   76. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#2044549)
What does FWU mean?
   77. Bob Koo Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#2044551)
Sigh, Delgado.
   78. zack Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:09 AM (#2044555)
One thing that mlb.tv has taught me is that I really like Cohen and Hernandez as a team. Sure Hernandez can be a bit of a jackist, but they have...personality. Contrast this with the Marlins or Nats teams.
   79. Шĥy Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:09 AM (#2044561)

F-ck With the Umpires?
   80. Sam M. Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:11 AM (#2044562)
F wake up.
   81. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:11 AM (#2044563)
Ugh. Are the Mets leading the league in runners left on base?
   82. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:11 AM (#2044565)
Its time for Delgado to FWU.
Acronyms... bah.
   83. Hysterical & Useless Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:11 AM (#2044567)
[Forgetting] wake up?
   84. Sam M. Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:14 AM (#2044581)
Are the Mets leading the league in runners left on base?

I hope so, or at least that they are when the season's over. That's a great stat to lead the league in. Lead the league in LOB, you usually lead the league in runners on base, and you're usually going to be near the lead in runs, too.
   85. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:17 AM (#2044585)

Pfft, details.
   86. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:19 AM (#2044594)
Yep. You guys got it.

This has been a frustating game. We should have more than one run in.
   87. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:20 AM (#2044598)
Floyd's on fire.
   88. Sam M. Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:23 AM (#2044608)
That AB started off a lot better than it ended. Bah, Valentin.
   89. Sam M. Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:23 AM (#2044609)
Man, Lastings has a quick bat. Whippet fast.
   90. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:25 AM (#2044613)
You gotta be kidding me! Leadoff double and no run?
   91. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:28 AM (#2044624)
Nice AB by Soler.
   92. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:32 AM (#2044639)
Another one? Byrnes is pissing me off.
   93. Bob Koo Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:32 AM (#2044640)
What the heck has gotten into Eric Byrnes?
   94. Chris Dial Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:32 AM (#2044642)
It's Lima Time!
   95. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:34 AM (#2044650)
This is my first time watching Soler pitch, and he hasn't impressed me at all.
   96. Banta Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:35 AM (#2044651)
LoDuca is calling for the curve WAY too much.
   97. Old Matt Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:36 AM (#2044652)
Game over.
   98. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:36 AM (#2044653)
Ugh.
   99. Chris Dial Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:36 AM (#2044654)
That's terrible managing.
   100. Banta Posted: May 31, 2006 at 12:36 AM (#2044657)

His control, first innning aside, was MUCH better in the first game. He's got nothing this game.
