Over/under on runs allowed by Boston in the first inning tonight: 2.5. And I'll go out on a limb and take the under.

Ellsbury, CF
Crawford, LF
Pedroia, 2B
Gonzalez, 1B
Ross, RF
Middlebrooks, 3B
Shoppach, C
Aviles, SS
Ciriaco, DH

Same as last night, if I'm reading that correctly.
   2. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:10 PM (#4188376)
Beckett, try to limit them to one run this inning, you ####### slob.
   3. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:11 PM (#4188377)
I'd rather have Nava in RF and Ross DH.
   4. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:13 PM (#4188380)
Is Lamonkeyface hurt?
   5. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4188382)
Beckett...you miserable slob.
   6. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4188384)
Out. Rasmus still hasn't touched home plate.
   7. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4188385)
He was out, but #### you Beckett.
   8. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4188386)
Nice call ump - jesus
   9. Dan Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4188387)
He never even touched the ####### plate. #### you, ump.
   10. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:18 PM (#4188388)
Always nice to start a game off with a horrible umpire call.
   11. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4188389)
In fairness, Shoppach was further from tagging Rasmus than Rasmus from touching the plate. Neither of them touched what they were supposed to.
   12. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4188390)
Shoppach tagged him after they both stood up.
   13. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4188391)
The ump really shouldn't have made ANY call until someone did something right.
   14. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:22 PM (#4188392)
Ah. Did not see that.
   15. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:22 PM (#4188394)
Shoppach tagged him after they both stood up, and THEN the ump called Rasmus safe. Which was especially strange.
   16. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:23 PM (#4188395)
The Jays' only breaks this season have been bones and ligaments, so I'll take this small, positive break.
   17. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4188397)
14...you didn't see it? You could be an umpire, too.
   18. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4188398)
Besides, we have Laffey pitching....there's your break.
   19. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4188399)
I kid.
   20. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:25 PM (#4188400)
Yes, well the umpire did not have an 18 month yelling for attention.

Though it may seem like it at times.
   21. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:26 PM (#4188402)
Tell the kid to grow up.
   22. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:28 PM (#4188404)
I know Beckett settled down last game and pitched well and won, but, #### him. That turd.
   23. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:30 PM (#4188405)
Tell the kid to grow up.

He's wearing a Jays cap and just threw frozen blueberries at the tv when Crawford got his hit. I like to think that was intentional.
   24. Dan Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:31 PM (#4188406)
Nice 3-1 swing, Adrian.
   25. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:31 PM (#4188407)
Making the offense constantly come from behind in his starts definitely compels a #### him.
   26. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:33 PM (#4188408)
Frozen blueberries? In July? Where are you, in the Arctic?
   27. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:33 PM (#4188409)
He's got nothing right now. Absolutely nothing.
   28. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:34 PM (#4188410)
I have some frozen blueberries in the freezer. I'm going to get them and throw them at my TV. #### you, Beckett.
   29. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:35 PM (#4188411)
Well, Canada, but it's 35 C here. Naw, teething = love of frozen fruit.

And really happy to see Snider back in the Majors; hopefully this time to stay.
   30. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4188412)
Snider shouldn't have given himself up so easily trying to pull that grounder to the right side. Beckett would have eventually grooved something for a line drive.
   31. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4188413)
He keeps pitching this guy outside so he can punch it to right and get the run home. He's supposed to pitch him inside here.
   32. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4188414)
Gomes is AAA.
   33. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4188416)
Nice 3-2 pitch...
   34. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4188417)
Gomes will be a great player to have on the roster. He's got enough of a bat to stay in the Majors at maybe a .750 ops and can play catcher, third, first and the corner outfield spots.
   35. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4188418)
0-2 to BB. I am emptying my refrigerator to throw at the TV.
   36. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4188419)
Beckett and Lester are determined to prevent the Sox from making the playoffs
   37. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4188420)
I am now breaking into the nextdoor neighbor's apartment to empty their refrigerator to throw at the TV.
   38. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4188421)
Love Rasmus. Really turned around his season.

And man can Gose fly.
   39. Dan Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4188422)
Beckett is such a piece of ####.
   40. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4188424)
Pretend you're Beckett. You'll miss.
   41. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4188425)
I like it better when he stinks at home. I don't usually boo, and don't usually like it when the crowd boos, but in this case, it's appropriate.
   42. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4188426)
BOOOOO! BOOOOO! BOOOOOO!

[Why am I not hearing this louder at the ballpark right now?]
   43. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4188427)
I've had 4 hours sleep - hard to be angry right now
   44. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4188428)
The weekend crowd tends to be more touristy than the weekday crowd.
   45. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:47 PM (#4188431)
I may need to go to the convenience store across the street to empty their refrigerators and freezers for TV-targeting products if Beckett's going to stay in this game beyond this inning.

Maybe he still has the "flu." That was the excuse for him sucking early the last time out. As we know from Gonzalez's case, when the "flu" turned out to be back spasms, it's just an all-purpose excuse for player underperformance.
   46. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4188432)
I think I would have #### myself there.
   47. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4188435)
Wow, thats a hit, what, 999 out of 1000 times it happens.
   48. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4188436)
This ####### Toyota commercial, with the horns, is driving me crazy. I've heard it 20 times in the past couple of days, at least, and I only watched the Red Sox and the news.
   49. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:52 PM (#4188437)
Beckett's depressing performance has put the normally lefty-mashing offense to sleep against Laffey.
   50. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4188438)
Giving a beach ball back to the fans might be the single dumbest thing Carl Crawford has ever done in a Red Sox uniform. And I say that knowing Crawford hasn't exactly distinguished himself in that category since signing here.
   51. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4188439)
I think the Jay's announcer just called your centerfielder "Colby Ellsbury"
   52. Captain Joe Bivens, Elderly Northeastern Jew Posted: July 20, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4188440)
Jenny Dell is the Josh Beckett of whatever it is NESN is paying her to do.
   53. Textbook Editor Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:01 PM (#4188442)
Tuned in late, Beckett's given up 4 runs already; what else his new.

I won't cry when his extension is over.
   54. Textbook Editor Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:03 PM (#4188443)
I like the idea of throwing frozen food at the tv when Beckett pisses me off... But then I fear I would starve.
   55. Dan Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4188449)
I just realized that both teams are playing an outfield entirely composed of lefty throwers.
   56. Textbook Editor Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4188450)
Is there even a market for Beckett? Can we get 1 dozen well-rubbed baseballs? I'm just so tired of watching him pitch.
   57. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:20 PM (#4188453)
The fact that he's had a couple of clean innings now, just as he did last time, makes the starts of the game that much more infuriating. It's like he's channeling Dice-K.
   58. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4188454)
Three straight BIP disappointments on line drives to the outfield.
   59. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4188457)
Shift works on Middlebrooks for the second straight AB.
   60. Dan Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4188458)
And Middlebrooks hits into (another) DP.
   61. Dan Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4188461)
Middlebrooks is so ready to play every day in the majors.
   62. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 08:32 PM (#4188462)
What a shitty pitch.
   63. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 09:17 PM (#4188482)
Squander time ...
   64. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4188484)
Squander almost complete.
   65. Chip Posted: July 20, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4188485)
... and there it is.
   66. L. M. Gumby Posted: July 20, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4188488)
Beckett isn't just bad at throwing a baseball, he's bad at being likable. I dislike him so much I don't want him to win. Same with Lester. Same with Lackey. I'm not sure I can really get behind the team again until they aren't part of it. This might sound stupid, but it's true.
   67. plink Posted: July 20, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4188505)
If there was ever, ever a time that Saltalamacchia should (have) bunt(ed), it's now.
   68. Mayor Blomberg Posted: July 20, 2012 at 10:35 PM (#4188516)
Late to the party but ... Rasmus was SAFE.

Watch the replay and freeze it. Hus hand gets under the catcher's leg, but not in a kinky way, and they collapse backward over the plate before he's tagged.

Give an umpire credit.
