I didn't tune into until the 8th yesterday and wondered when the Cubs had moved BPJ back into a reliever role. I had no idea he was out there in the 8th because, well, he was STILL out there.

Looking forward to seeing Volstad tonight. I guess.
   3. NTNgod Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4101750)
Holy empty seats.
   4. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:18 PM (#4101755)
I was actually going to go tonight, but decided against it last minute. I'll probably go on Thursday instead.

Len and Bob were right, that's a pretty odd lack of reception for Aramis. I'd have given him a cheer.

Nice throw by DeJesus, what a bad break on the bounce.
   5. NTNgod Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4101762)
On the ESPN2 (or ESPN3 online) feed, the receptions for both Ramirez and Braun (negative, in his case, obviously) sounded pretty muted.
   6. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:25 PM (#4101769)
Seems like the season's still in its first week, and Cubs fans already just want to get it over with.
   7. NTNgod Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:27 PM (#4101773)
I know the wind is blowing out, but - DARWIN BARNEY!?!?!
   8. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:27 PM (#4101775)
Darwin Barney with the first Cub HR of the year! Go figure.
   9. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:28 PM (#4101776)
Did I just see Barney hit a homerun?
   10. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4101840)
So ... LaHair can hit the ball pretty far. More of those, please.
   11. SouthSideRyan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4101850)
[6]Those Cubs fans are ####### idiots.
   12. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4101855)
Agreed. But it'll be a tough year for the frontrunning types, that's for sure.
   13. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4101856)
I like that "Not guilty doesn't = innocent" sign.
   14. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4101859)
These ESPN guys are being surprisingly blunt about Braun's overturned suspension.
   15. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4101865)
It's so odd to see Ramirez in a different uniform. I hadn't even started college when he was traded to Chicago. I honestly have no memory of him in a Pirates uni.
   16. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4101905)
Is Volsted getting squeezed?
   17. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4101960)
Aramis Ramirez wouldn't have made it to second on that play because he would have given up on that off the bat.
   18. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:38 PM (#4101965)
Man, I can already see how this will end.
   19. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4101969)
Volstad didn't look terrible but he didn't look very good either. About what we'd expect, I'd say.

The season or game?
   21. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4101978)
Ha ha, Corey Hart gets caught loafin'.
   22. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4101981)
Can we just move Soriano, no matter how many millions the Cubs need to eat? I just can't watch in LF for three more years.
   23. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:51 PM (#4101990)

The runner on third with no outs situation. Cubs looked like they were content to just hack at anything, but sort of backed into a run there.
   24. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:51 PM (#4101995)

I missed the first two innings, but the strikezone seemed a bit tight for him at times.
   25. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:54 PM (#4102000)
So DeJesus sucks out there too? This is going to be a long season for the pitchers.
   26. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4102007)
yeah, that throw didn't exactly match up with the "DeJesus has a good arm out there" line from the PBP guy as DeJesus camped under the ball.
   27. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4102009)
Maybe, I didn't notice anything too egregious. I think Brenly just summed him up about right, basically saying that he has the stuff to get people out when he's on, but it's not good enough to get away with mistakes when he's not.
   28. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4102011)
That last comment of mine was in response to #26.
   29. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:00 PM (#4102015)
The problem with this team is that there is so damn little to look forward to besides Castro. I know Dempster will be traded by the trade deadline, and I suspect Garza will too. While I enjoyed the hell out of BPJ's performance yesterday, I am having a hard time getting pumped up for this team. Maybe when Rizzo and Jackson come up it will change my mind.
   30. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4102019)
Castro has looked like Soriano at the plate tonight.
   31. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4102023)
Castro looked like absolute #### at that at-bat.
   32. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:02 PM (#4102029)
Does Dempster still have a no-trade clause, or did he lose it for his option year?
   33. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4102035)
I assumed he would waive yet, given how far out of 1st the team will be.
   34. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:05 PM (#4102036)
If they are going to shift against Stewart all year, he needs to learn to go the other way.
   35. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4102043)
I assumed he would waive yet, given how far out of 1st the team will be.

He hasn't in the past.
   36. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4102073)
Can Soriano move faster then a jog? He has the range of Dave Kingman out there.
   37. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4102079)
Camp looks like the most un-confident professional athlete ever.
   38. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4102103)
Never a good thing when you have a punch-less team that's not even capable of hitting singles in key spots.
   39. Dale Sams Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4102141)
How long do I have before LaHair loses of eligibility?
   40. Dale Sams Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4102161)
This ump is terrible.
   41. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4102205)
I wonder what made Sveum decide to get Russell into this game. He just went a whole weekend of making sure Russell didn't get a chance to face Adam LaRoche, after all.
   42. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4102270)
Looks like the Cubs have infected the Brewers with their bad defense.
   43. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4102276)
It'd be nice if Castro at least got another crack at reaching base.
   44. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4102282)
BPJ to pinch-run. Makes sense to me...?
   45. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4102295)
This is cool but I'd feel more excited if Castro had gotten one good swing tonight.
   46. Brian C Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:31 PM (#4102312)
Too bad. Castro's legendary patience finally comes back to bite him in the ass.
   47. SteveM. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:32 PM (#4102317)
Someone needs to tell Castro he could swing his bat when the pitches are in the strike zone.
   48. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4102323)
Well, they put up a fight, but Castro looked awful tonight.
