Question for Cardinal fans. I have not been follwoing the team that closely. Is Weaver someone who would be starting games in the playoffs? Just wondering. If so, I feel a lot better about our rotation.

It depends on whether the opponent has any kind of left-handed hitting, because Weaver's pretty much helpless against them.

Well, I'm not that pissed about the Green trade. It's only money. Now, if the deal prevents them from upgrading in the outfield next year, sure I'll be a bit more pissed, but this move in itself isn't terrible.

Plus, there's got to be a chance, albeit however small, that Green returns to form a bit. He's still not THAT old.

Yeah, Alou would have been better. Hell, keeping Nady would have been better. But there's not much that we can do about that now and the deal based on the deal's own merits isn't that bad. If Green sucks, I'm sure the Mets won't use him that much. Management has shown a willingness to change if something isn't working, I don't see why this will be any different.

Once again, it's by no means a good deal, but it's really nothing to get worked up over. I guess it just comes down to for me, if you don't give up any talent in the deal, then I'm not that mad. Plus, whatever increase this has on the budget, the Mets can afford it next year, since they're going to win the World Series this year!

Looks like the D'backs got MacLane. Seeing as how the Mets were never gonna use him, that's ok. But, I hope now that the D'backs kicked in A LOT of money, because otherwise, this trade is looking worse.

Michael Tucker is hitting .308/.406/.500 in 30 plate appearances. Obviously, the power isn't going to stay but he did post a .380 OBP in AAA.

Weaver does suck, but he's looking better each time out there. And for you tortured mets fans, you have to understand that there is small grumblings for the cardinals to make jorge sosa a starter for us.

The cardinals signing of Preston Wilson was basically a minor league contract and he hasn't been bad or good, but he does stabilize the outfield while Edmonds is out.

Well, this performance should temper our enthusiasm of Maine. It doesn't seem like he had the right plan of which hitters to work around and which hitters to go after when he got into trouble. (Hint: Don't go after the guy who won the NL MVP last year.)

Maine has given up 9 homers in 55 innings. I love agressive pitching as much as anyone but he probably needs to throw more curveballs. You can't challenge hitters in the zone as much as Maine does and not give up a lot of homers.

The thing about Maine, is unless he has excellent control, he'll get lit up pretty bad from time to time. He's really no better than a forth starter. I've watched every game he's pitched while he was doing well and truthfully, I have no idea how he was doing with that mediocre stuff. His fastball isn't that impressive, and his secondary pitches even less so. So, unless he has Madduxesque control, his ceiling is very limited. And I don't think that's reasonable to expect.

True enough, Bob. I didn't want to criticize Maine as long as he was succeeding, but watching him, during his successful run, I didn't understand how he was getting the hitters to swing and miss so much. As long as he kept on doing it though, I wasn't gonna try and figure it out. Now...

Yep. I'm really concerned about him facing REAL competition, because let's face it... the Mets haven't played a real team in awhile. The Cardinals are legit competition and Maine got smoked.

I've just been skeptical of our "good" pitching since interleague play. Alay Soler looked alright until he faced real teams, remember?

Maine faced the Phils twice. And didn't he face the Marlins and Atlanta too? Those teams have good offenses.

Mota's splitter is a plus pitch. Add that to his fastball, and that's two more plus pitches than Heath Bell.
