The Sox don't seem too worried about him, so for now we're chalking it up to difficulties warming up on Tuesday. We shall see...
Chicago is learning that repeating might be hard.
If winning championships wasn't so hard, 2005 wouldn't be so special. I'm hoping the Sox do well this season, and I'm not happy when they lose, but I don't have that sick feeling when they lose anymore.
Also, the Tigers are now only 77 wins away from a winning season.
I'm going to check the MLB.tv replay of this game tonight to see how García looks. I didn't get to see his start last week. I am concerned about his loss of velocity, too.

The Tigers have a very good lineup.
I'll be glad when this series is over just because they are all day games.
No kidding. I spent a lot of money on Extra Innings and I won't be able to use it for the first three days.
I need to get a DVR.
That scares me about as much as Ozuna-Podsednik-Mackowiak. I feel sorry for Freddy Garcia.
I wouldn't mind if the Sox went after Nook Logan. Seeing as though he plays for Detroit, though, I doubt the teams would do an in-division trade like that.
And who does Gload have to blow to get in the lineup?
He remains the only position player who hasn't started a game. If I have to see Ozuna play left again before Gload gets a start...
/I'm starting the jinxing early cuz I have a bad feeling about this.
I have Bonderman on my fantasy team. If the Sox are going to make outs with the bases empty, they should be strikeouts.
To me, this is the most remarkable statistic in baseball: The last 26 World Series have been won by 19 different teams.
Hanging breaking ball to Pudge. Pods plays it into two bases. Man he's useless.
Way to go, Paulie.
I have Konerko on my team. Not surprisingly, I'm doing very poorly after the first week.
Gee, why would they work around Cooter™ to get to Mackowiak? </sarcasm>
I'm watching - I'd say he looks to be throwing a little harder than last week...although by no means is he throwing hard. His location is better but his curveball has sucked.
I don't see the gun, but Garcia seems to be throwing harder today, muhc harder. Then again, he sat at 84 last time....
Was that another long homer? His first three were just huge.
He really hits the ball a long way, doesn't he?
I really liked the Tigers announcers last year, whoever the heck they were/are. They weren't the best crew in baseball, but they told it like is, and brought some enthusiasm to the game. They weren't boring I guess is what I'm trying to say.
It means he hit it hard but right at someone/defender made a terrific play.
And yes, we're all tired of Hawk. I think the disclaimer should go back up.
little known baseball dictionary definition...
2 almost identical curveballs
1) hanger= the one that is hit hard
2) bender, yakker, knee-buckler= the one the hitter takes
called curveball strikes cross the plate waist-high, hence most/all curves that are called strikes are "hangers."
I have decided that I am going to pretend as though Ken Harrelson does not exist. I haven't gotten it down 100% yet, but I'm getting there.
Am I the only one that is worried Podsednik is a lot worse off than everyone thinks?
I doubt you're alone in that. I figure it just ensures that the Sox won't keep him beyond this year. In the meantime, they'll just try the Jerry Owens Experience a little sooner if Pods continues to suck.
Thanks for the info. I always thought that a hanger was a curve that didn't break properly.
Well, see, that's the double standard I guess. What I sometimes hate about baseball is how results-oriented it can get. When you watch the replay on the Craig Monroe bomb, check out the pitch. It's an 0-0 curveball that breaks well, is a lowish strike, and it's really a decent pitch. Monroe was looking for a pitch in a particular zone and he got it. That same 0-0 curveball, had he thrown it on 1-2 after throwing a fastball up and in to back him off, would've been a knee-bender, of the "he gone, nasty bender" variety.
That's what I call "Mercy!"
And to think, DMB rates him as "Average".
I guess it's better than last year, when he was rated as "Fair".
Just as last game I thought the gun was slow, it appears this gun is fast.
It's also interesting that the gun didn't show up until Garcia's last few pitches in the 2nd.
He's throwing harder than he was last game, but he's not hitting 94 consistently [as the gun says]. I don't think he's ever done that in a Sox uniform.
Following online, that's what I figured he was doing. I was very surprised to see Shelton on second when I moved back to that browser tab.
