Hard to believe that the Brewers have the same record as the Cubs.

Hard to believe that the Brewers have the same record as the Cubs.

Harder to believe they have a worse run differential than the Cubs.
   4. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4129901)
The Cubs really need a LH pinch-hitter they can trust in a situation like this.
   5. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4129902)
Like DeJesus?
   6. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4129906)
Yes-I forget he wasn't starting. Damn!
   7. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:40 PM (#4129917)
That may have been the best slider Marmol has thrown all season.
   8. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:45 PM (#4129919)
Why does Dale even let Marmol pitch?
   9. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:47 PM (#4129921)
I'm not sure why he lets him pitch in situations where the team is still in the game, at least.
   10. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:49 PM (#4129925)
Fake injury?
   11. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:55 PM (#4129929)
I started paying attention to this game at the wrong time.
   12. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:58 PM (#4129932)
Bullpen is so shitty.
   13. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 10:59 PM (#4129933)
The Cubs bullpen should be convicted of arson with all the fires they start.
   14. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:00 PM (#4129935)
Marmol shouldn't have been near a close game.
   15. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:08 PM (#4129960)
Why didn't they just pinch run Soriano for Campana and have Campana steal second instead of wasting Campana on an attempted sac bunt?
   16. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:09 PM (#4129964)
Because the pen will just squander it, anyway.
   17. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:10 PM (#4129967)
The good news out of this game is that Marmol may go on the DL.
   18. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:16 PM (#4129972)
Why the #### is James Russell pitching NOW?
   19. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:21 PM (#4129973)
Russell is turning into quite the useful reliever for the Cubs.
   20. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:22 PM (#4129975)
Anyone else notice that GameDay isn't working for the Cubs game? I just got home, and I'm watching the Rangers-Angels game for my wife's sake, and for some reason GameDay seems to be working for all the games other than the Cubs.
   21. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:23 PM (#4129976)
Ah, never mind. Apparently complaining about it did the trick, after almost 10 minutes of trying to get it to load.
   22. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:24 PM (#4129977)
Yup, same here, Brian.
   23. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:25 PM (#4129978)
Rally!
   24. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:26 PM (#4129979)
So Reed Johnson's still useless.
   25. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:27 PM (#4129980)
Gameday was working earlier. I was using it while I listened to the game on the radio but then I moved off to watching the game on the internet.
   26. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:29 PM (#4129981)
DeJesus! The Brewers CF took a miserable route to that ball.
   27. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:29 PM (#4129982)
DeJesus comes alive!
   28. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:31 PM (#4129983)
There's something you don't see everyday.
   29. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:32 PM (#4129984)
Watching it online has me about 2 or 3 minutes behind so I just saw David's triple. Rally indeed!
   30. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:33 PM (#4129985)
Man, Castro looks like he has absolutely no plan up there.
   31. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:34 PM (#4129986)
You still haven't got to the good part, then.
   32. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:35 PM (#4129987)
Someone provide PBP. I'm stuck watching the end of the Grizzlies/Clippers game at friend's house.
   33. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:35 PM (#4129988)
Just saw it.
   34. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:37 PM (#4129989)
Brewers look pissed.
   35. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:38 PM (#4129990)
My God Soriano came through in the clutch. I have seen it all now.
   36. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:38 PM (#4129991)
DeJesus tripled in the tying run. Castro comes up to the plate, swings at a pitch that lands a good five feet in front of the plate for strike three. Lucroy can't smother the pitch, though, and DeJesus comes home while Castro's safe at first.

Now LaHair just struck out, but Soriano singled home Castro to make it 7-5. Brewers taking out Axford now.
   37. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:40 PM (#4129992)
Just saw the WP. Castro shows his age by how he looks in these late-inning RISP situations.
   38. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:41 PM (#4129993)
DeJesus has raised his slugging percentage 60 points with his two AB tonight.
   39. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:43 PM (#4129996)
I'm thinking DeJesus will be above 100 OPS+ after tonight.+

LaHair got his 4 AB without striking out so there is that and even though he struck out on his 5th AB that still keeps with his 1 out of every 5 ratio that he has been doing recently. Unfortunately he went 0 for 5 which is going to do a number on his OPS+.
   40. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:48 PM (#4130000)
I thought Marmol already pitched?
   41. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:48 PM (#4130001)
If Bob and Len think Dolis is hurt, you have to wonder why no one in the Cubs dugout came out to check on him.
   42. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:48 PM (#4130002)
Is anyone in the dugout going to do anything in response to Dolis being clearly in pain?
   43. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:51 PM (#4130005)
This is gonna end in a walk-off, isn't it?
   44. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:52 PM (#4130006)
But in what inning?
   45. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:53 PM (#4130007)
####.
   46. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:53 PM (#4130008)
I hate you Walks.
   47. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:53 PM (#4130009)
Figures.
   48. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:54 PM (#4130010)
It's been a while since the pen has been so awful from front to back.
   49. SteveM. Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:54 PM (#4130011)
Dolis is ####### hurt. Dveum and Bosio, get off your ####### asses and go check on him. Jesus Christ, this team is maddening.
   50. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:55 PM (#4130013)
The whole freaking time during the at bat with Hart I was screaming at the screen for Dolis to learn how to throw a changeup.
   51. Brian C Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:56 PM (#4130015)
This seems like the kind of game the Brewers and Cubs used to play back in the late '90s, when it seemed like every game was ####### crazy and would never end.
   52. McCoy Posted: May 11, 2012 at 11:57 PM (#4130017)
Well, at least this game is going to raise the average RPG of the majors.
   53. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:01 AM (#4130021)
I really hate Dale as a manager.
   54. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:03 AM (#4130025)
Parra hasn't done jack and what does Dale do? Why he tries to give him a free out.
   55. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:05 AM (#4130026)
I HATE DALE!
   56. Spahn Insane Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:06 AM (#4130027)
Well, that's a horseshite AB from SYTH.
   57. Spahn Insane Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:07 AM (#4130029)
Wait--were those both bunt attempts? Jesus. Don Baylor's wet dream.
   58. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:08 AM (#4130031)
Besides Wood, who do the Cubs still have left in the pen?
   59. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:09 AM (#4130032)
Lendy?
   60. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:11 AM (#4130034)
Holy crap, they put Dolis out there for another inning. Sveum may shred more arms then Dusty by the time he is through.
   61. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:11 AM (#4130035)
Mark it down on the calendar folks. Today is the day I officially am against Dale. What a horrible horrible manager. Fire him now. Let him and his precious shifts be gone from Chicago.
   62. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:14 AM (#4130039)
Dolis can not find the strike zone. I just don't get keeping him in.
   63. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:16 AM (#4130040)
Luckily, Caesar Izturis is still Caesar Izturis.
   64. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:20 AM (#4130044)
Let him and his precious shifts be gone from Chicago.

Those shifts seem to actually be working, though.
   65. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:22 AM (#4130046)
That's Castro's first walk since April 13.
   66. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:26 AM (#4130047)
   67. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:26 AM (#4130048)
What's that, like the fourth time Castro's been picked off this year?
   68. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:28 AM (#4130050)
Answering my own question, yes, it's the fourth time. Out of 5 CS. Good grief.
   69. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:30 AM (#4130052)
Well, in about 6 minutes this game is going to be over. You simply cannot have a game in which both Marmol and Wood appear in the game and have the Cubs win it.
   70. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:33 AM (#4130053)
My kingdom for a relief pitcher who can throw a ####### strike.
   71. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:35 AM (#4130056)
They can do that but they tend to then get knocked over the outfield wall.
   72. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:35 AM (#4130058)
Man, I see that even Camp issued a walk earlier. Tough night.
   73. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:37 AM (#4130059)
Does the Cubs' broadcast show pitch location? Is the ump squeezing the pitchers? Some of these pitches look awfully close.
   74. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:38 AM (#4130061)
Woohoo double play!

Rizzo has another HR tonight, btw.
   75. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:40 AM (#4130062)
I can't believe he got out of it. Does Dale go to Kerry for another inning if the Cubs don't score?
   76. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:40 AM (#4130063)
Does the Cubs' broadcast show pitch location? Is the ump squeezing the pitchers?

They do on replays for close pitchers, although to be honest I haven't been paying much attention tonight.
   77. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:42 AM (#4130065)
Not sure if anyone noticed, but Gerardo Concepcion had another dog of a game last night. 4 IP, only 2 hits and 2 runs allowed, but he walked 5 and only struck out 1.
   78. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:45 AM (#4130066)
Castillo with 3 hits tonight!
   79. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:46 AM (#4130067)
I was really hoping he'd start getting it going.
   80. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:48 AM (#4130068)
The Cubs are keeping me from my bed and my Kindle. Sad to say that is my Friday night plans.
   81. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:51 AM (#4130069)
This game's inching towards 5 hours. I know it's extra innings but that's still pretty silly.
   82. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:52 AM (#4130070)
A million walks and every pitcher in the pen will do that.
   83. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:54 AM (#4130071)
I can't imagine the Brewers sticking with Izturis all season.
   84. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:56 AM (#4130074)
They stuck with Betancourt all last season.
   85. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 12:59 AM (#4130077)
They stuck with Betancourt all last season.

Hmm, good point. But their offense was already weakened going into the season and now they have a black hole at #8. Last year they could get away with it, I don't think they can this year.
   86. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:01 AM (#4130078)
Why would you have DeJesus bunt?
   87. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:02 AM (#4130081)
Man oh man. That bunting tournament during spring training must have been really painful to watch if DeJesus won it.
   88. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:03 AM (#4130082)
This game just won't end until LaHair manages to extend his on-base streak.
   89. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:03 AM (#4130083)
It's an IBB! That's what I'm talking about.
   90. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:04 AM (#4130084)
Dale and his love affair with the sac bunt is killing me.
   91. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:09 AM (#4130086)
This could be a preview of what is to come after the All-Star break-Soriano on the bench and LaHair in left.
   92. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:13 AM (#4130088)
Hmm...
   93. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:13 AM (#4130089)
Pitchers as positional players?
   94. SteveM. Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:15 AM (#4130090)
####.
   95. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:16 AM (#4130091)
Oh well. This was one ######-up game.
   96. McCoy Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:18 AM (#4130093)
Gotta love those shifts.
   97. Brian C Posted: May 12, 2012 at 01:22 AM (#4130096)
Yeah, because who's ever heard of a groundball getting through a drawn-in infield?

Thing is, they entered the day tied for first in the NL in defensive efficiency, even though approximately no one thought this would be a good defensive team going into the season. I know that's not the be-all and end-all stat, but it seems obvious that something's going right.
