I'm about ready for the Mike Aviles leadoff experiment to be over.
   2. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:23 PM (#4131378)
I think that was catchable.
   3. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:26 PM (#4131379)
Letting Middlebrooks swing 3-0 gets a thumbs up here. I think a LOT more players should be hacking 3-0.
   4. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:28 PM (#4131380)
The Aviles leadoff experiment is basically over. He's only batting leadoff vs LHP at this point.
   5. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:31 PM (#4131382)
I guess against lefties it's borderline acceptable, but I'm still not a big fan.
   6. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:35 PM (#4131383)
This Mariners is just what the Red Sox starters need. Too bad they only have this weird 2 games series.
   7. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4131384)
"lineup" should be in thee somewhere ^
   8. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4131388)
Who else would you bat leadoff against lefties?
   9. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4131390)
Pedroia is really the only other decent option, and assuming you don't want to jerk him around and want to leave him batting 2nd, Aviles is really the best choice.
   10. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4131391)
Even when Byrd gets a hit, he has to make an out. What a useless ####.
   11. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4131393)
Annnd the parade of booth guests starts. Time to swap to the Seattle broadcast so I can actually see the game. I feel sorry for people stuck with NESN tonight.
   12. Jay Seaver Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4131394)
This efficient pitching thing is pretty cool.
   13. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 14, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4131395)
I like Pedroia at leadoff against lefties, but yeah, there isn't a real obvious option.

Morning all
   15. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4131403)
Good to see Lester commanding his fastball for once this year.
   16. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:02 PM (#4131404)
Gonzalez was a little bit too casual with that play. Almost blew the perfect game.
   17. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:02 PM (#4131405)
Hey Phil.
   18. Jay Seaver Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:03 PM (#4131406)
Great going, Dan. :-P
   19. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:04 PM (#4131407)
Seriously, Lester?
   20. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:07 PM (#4131411)
Harper just hit his first career homer, about 420 feet to dead center off of Tim Stauffer.
   21. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:08 PM (#4131413)
Remember that trivia answer for when he passes Bonds :P
   22. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4131415)
Nava hit a homer right-handed? Crazy!
   23. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:15 PM (#4131417)
Lefty masher finally mashes a lefty for real.
   24. Joel W Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4131421)
Did we all see that our very own Jose was cited in Jonah Keri's weekly power ranking article today?
   25. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4131422)
No, but I'll go look for it now...
   26. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4131423)
Was the twitter link him?
   27. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4131427)

No - please show or link?!?
   28. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4131429)
What?
   29. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:39 PM (#4131432)
Oh hell, Jonah needs to give credit to Sean for that, I got those numbers from BBRef.
   30. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:39 PM (#4131433)
Oh yeah - the bit about Jed Lowrie in the Astros section. Well done!
   31. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4131435)
Link

Read the Astro note.
   32. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4131436)
Oh it was the Lowrie stuff. Not bad.
   33. Joel W Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:43 PM (#4131438)
Sorry I didn't link, yes, the Lowrie stuff....ew Sixers.
   34. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4131445)
That was a strong throw. Missed the mark, but that was a really strong throw for no plant.
   35. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:51 PM (#4131448)
That helps.
   36. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:51 PM (#4131449)
That's terrible by Montero.
   37. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4131450)
Great to see Jose - nice double - play earlier - a few things going Lester's way tonight ...

   38. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:54 PM (#4131451)
Ivan Nova is pitching like #### against the Orioles tonight.
   39. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4131453)
Hardy just took him deep for the 5th run with 0 outs in the 5th inning.
   40. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:15 PM (#4131467)
This base ball is more pleasant when that fellow throwing the ball doesn't suck.
   41. Jay Seaver Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4131469)
Whew, Middlebrooks almost had his OPS drop below 1000 there.
   42. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:17 PM (#4131471)
Middlebrooks really generates a lot of power without any sort of hitch. He just whips the bat through the zone.
   43. Jay Seaver Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:18 PM (#4131473)
I thought that double off Ross's bat was an out.
   44. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:23 PM (#4131478)
Glad to see Lester get a shot to finish this game. His PC is low enough, and a CG ShO would be nice for him.
   45. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4131485)
Bleh. I think I'd just pull Lester now. No sense going nuts. It was worth a shot.
   46. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4131486)
Ok Jon, enough.
   47. Jay Seaver Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4131487)
Technically, we should probably be complaining that Valentine can't see Lester is done, but when a pitcher gets to the 9th and it's not that close, he might as well finish it.
   48. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4131488)
Agreed Dan. One of the issues I've had with Bobby is by the time he makes the move the bullpen inherits an absolute mess. Get a chance to ease into the game a bit.

How about now?
   50. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4131492)
Nice fight back.
   51. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4131494)
Never thought I would see a complete game this year...

:)
   52. Dan Posted: May 14, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4131495)
Good to see him finish it off, even if it was the Mariners offense. Hopefully it can start a trend, not just for him, but for the whole rotation.

Of course - that quote is just wrong - sorry Jon - please carry this team's rotation if you could mate
