I'd bring up some AAA LHP that no one has seen before, rather than start Moehler.

I agree with you. But, it might be noted, Moehler certainly did an OK job for a fill-in start. A classic "he kept them in the game" kind of outing.
   102. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 12:58 AM (#2181265)
Just let him walk, Trax.
   103. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 19, 2006 at 12:58 AM (#2181266)
Cabrera is an amazing talent. I hope Minaya offers him the moon when he becomes a FA.
   104. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:00 AM (#2181269)
Same result.
   105. Old Matt Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:01 AM (#2181271)
Let's get this party started!
   106. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:02 AM (#2181272)
I don't know where the others have been, but I've been the staunchest Trachsel supporter all along. I knew it had to be Trax to clinch it for us.
   107. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:02 AM (#2181273)
Awesome hook from Willie.
   108. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:03 AM (#2181274)
I hope Minaya offers him the moon when he becomes a FA.

Cabrera's profile is going to resemble the full moon by the time he becomes a FA.
   109. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:03 AM (#2181275)
Heck of a job, Trax. Heck of a job. I'm really happy that he pitched so well today, after 6 years, he deserves the moment.
   110. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:04 AM (#2181277)
Past a diving Delgado has become a synonym for groundball to first base.
   111. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:05 AM (#2181278)
Let's speed this up here, Mota. Double play, please.
   112. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:05 AM (#2181279)
Yay Trax!
   113. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:05 AM (#2181280)
I don't know where the others have been, but I've been the staunchest Trachsel supporter all along. I knew it had to be Trax to clinch it for us.

Somewhere, Chris Dial is spinning in his grave . . . . or in Rob Base's grave. Or on top of it.
   114. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:08 AM (#2181285)
Auto-Mota-c
   115. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:08 AM (#2181286)
I hope Minaya offers him the moon when he becomes a FA.

I think Minaya should offer Cabrera a lifetime all you can eat at Peter Luger's Steakhouse.
   116. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:08 AM (#2181287)
Alrighty, everything is going according to plan.
   117. Old Matt Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:09 AM (#2181288)
Come on...stay ahead of the Phillies!
   118. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:09 AM (#2181289)
Mota appears to be pretty good. What happened to him in Cleveland?
   119. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:09 AM (#2181291)
Even I couldn't root against Mota under these circumstances. Well done, Slimeball.
   120. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:10 AM (#2181292)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
   121. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:11 AM (#2181297)
I'm glad that Rax is the clincher. He got done what Pedro, El Duque and Maine could not.
   122. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:11 AM (#2181298)
Well, for what is worth, IIRC, I was very much in favor of the Mota signing
   123. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:11 AM (#2181300)
We don't have to stay ahead of the Phillies, by the way -- just on pace. If we win with this lead, we won't have to bat in the bottom of the 9th -- to lose, the Phillies will. So that should help out.
   124. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:12 AM (#2181301)
This $10 quickie sure has delivered for many September nights.
   125. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:13 AM (#2181305)
I've got to start planning to update my tattoo -
   126. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:13 AM (#2181306)
This $10 quickie sure has delivered for many September nights.

You know how many men have said that, Rasky, only to get to know the benefits of penicillin later on? Just remember those words of wisdom, my friend.
   127. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:14 AM (#2181307)
Mota's probably more likely than Ledee to get a hit, but it's appropriate to go to Heilman and Wagner to close this out.
   128. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:14 AM (#2181309)
I agree - Wagner should finish the game.
   129. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:15 AM (#2181310)
He got done what Pedro, El Duque and Maine could not.

Don't say that yet, Chris! Sheesh. NOTHING'S got done yet.
   130. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:15 AM (#2181311)
Run Jose Run.
   131. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:16 AM (#2181314)
People have the blather on how we are so weak against LHPs, but we're 19-20 after the last 4 debacles, so that makes us 19-16 before that. I think we are just over-relaxed right now. We can start tuning it up the last two weeks. Go 10-5.
   132. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:16 AM (#2181315)
This $10 quickie sure has delivered for many September nights.

Life is short. Play hard.
   133. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:17 AM (#2181320)
Does anyone have a realtime update of what inning the Phillies game is in? I don't trust any of these fancy internet gadgets.
   134. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:20 AM (#2181325)
Right now, live, the Phillies are up with two outs in the 7th. Howard just struck out, with Utley on first.
   135. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:20 AM (#2181326)
Phillies batting with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th. That is safe.
   136. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:22 AM (#2181327)
I think we should throw Chris Woodward into the hopper.
   137. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:22 AM (#2181328)
You know, I actually think that Mota is better and more reliable than Heilman. But I doubt Willie will switch their roles now.
   138. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:23 AM (#2181329)
Thank you, Sam.

Come on, Heilman, stop joking around. No one is in the mood for your zany sense of humor.
   139. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:23 AM (#2181330)
Woot! Delgado!
   140. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:23 AM (#2181331)
So, groundball to first? You were saying?
   141. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:23 AM (#2181332)
Nice play by Delgado.
   142. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:23 AM (#2181333)
That's what I talking about! Nice, Delgado!
   143. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:24 AM (#2181334)
The pretty DP does the trick!!!! Four outs to go, boys. Four outs conquers 18 years.
   144. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:24 AM (#2181335)
DP! 4 outs away from the champagne!
   145. Old Matt Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:24 AM (#2181336)
BOOM!
   146. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:24 AM (#2181337)
Beautiful finish, Heilman. Blew him away.
   147. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:24 AM (#2181339)
HEILMAN!!!!!
   148. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:25 AM (#2181340)
Heilman! 3 more outs!
   149. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:26 AM (#2181342)
Countdown to glory: 3 outs. Magic number: .11
   150. Old Matt Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:27 AM (#2181344)
Everybody's standing. I love it.
   151. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:27 AM (#2181345)
Remember the game chatters from 03/04 where all we did was talk about who we should acquire? Even assuming those dream scenarios would come to fruition, and I didn't, I never expected this day to come this soon. What a magnificent turnaround, and what a magical season this has been.
   152. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:27 AM (#2181346)
Let's go, Mets! Let's go Mets! Let's go Mets!
   153. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:29 AM (#2181350)
Mota with 2 holds tonight.
   154. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:29 AM (#2181351)
Of course, that ball is out of CBP . . . Take that, Ryan.
   155. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:30 AM (#2181353)
Delgado is every bit the MVP candidate as Beltran. And they can see the argument for Wright over Beltran. Stupid Marlins announcers.
   156. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:33 AM (#2181357)
EXIT LIGHT
   157. Old Matt Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:34 AM (#2181359)
I love you guys.

Thank you.

Enter Sandman!
   159. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:34 AM (#2181361)
three more outs, three more outs!
   160. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:34 AM (#2181362)
Stupid Marlins announcers.

By far the worst in the league. Horrendous.
   161. Banta Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:34 AM (#2181363)
This is it! ROCK IT, BILLY
   162. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:36 AM (#2181364)

WHOOOOOO! I'm especially happy that Floyd got to catch the final out!
   177. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:41 AM (#2181387)
That was awesome. I love the Mets.
   178. Raskolnikov Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:42 AM (#2181388)
YES!!!!!!!
   179. Srul Itza Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:42 AM (#2181389)
The new magic number is now 4 -- any combination of 4 more Mets wins and Cardinals losses = NL HFA.

But for now, Yay Mets.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!
   181. Sam M. Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:44 AM (#2181391)
So many moments, so much fun, so many great performances. Tonight, of course, Trachsel and Valentin. Bravo to a great, great team. To Randolph and Minaya. To all you guys, who I enjoy SO MUCH talking baseball with. This is just a great feeling, ain't it? We went through such dark days a couple of years ago, and THIS is the payoff. Glorious. It's gonna be a great ride this October. Just great.
   182. Chris Dial Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:44 AM (#2181393)
And Trax gets the W!

What a great team, what a great feeling. Hopefully this is just a precursor for some great moments to come. Let's go Mets!

Is it petty to be really glad we clinched before the Yankees? Well, so be it. I'm glad we clinched first.

I need to start clearing up my work schedule for the first two weeks of Oct. No effing way I'm missing the playoffs.

We finally did it, guys. Rooting for the Mets is great, but its even better to do along you guys. We really deserved this one.
   191. AJMcCringleberry Posted: September 19, 2006 at 01:49 AM (#2181408)
I love this team. I never thought I'd see this day.
