Unusual 12:35 start time today. Rick Ankiel designated for assignment, Storen activated.

Gio and Dickey squaring off to try and become first in majors to win #13. As great as Dickey has been, he has been coming back to earth lately, with 15 ER in his last four starts.

Also, Jhonatan Solano to the D.L., Sandy Leon called up to take his place.

Another home run for Wright. We can't get him out to save our lives.

Zimm cuts the lead in half.
   5. Esoteric Posted: July 19, 2012 at 12:56 PM (#4187036)
Goddamned David Wright.

But: we match him with Ryan Zimmerman!
   6. Esoteric Posted: July 19, 2012 at 12:59 PM (#4187038)
JESUS CATFUCKING CHRIST ENOUGH WITH THE HOMERS ALREADY.

JESUS CATFUCKING CHRIST ENOUGH WITH THE HOMERS ALREADY.

Usually the last thing you have to worry about with the Mets. But here we are.

He's getting shelled hard today.
   9. Esoteric Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:19 PM (#4187058)
Welp, kinda thinking this one isn't going to go our way.
   10. formerly dp Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:20 PM (#4187060)
Well, a run's a run.
   11. Esoteric Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:23 PM (#4187065)
Walks to Jason Bay, hits to Ike Davis...yeah, this one ain't happening. Stupid midday games!

Valley Fever?
   13. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:26 PM (#4187070)
Yep, our record when going for a series sweep this season is 4-11, and it looks like it's going to be 4-12.
   14. Esoteric Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:28 PM (#4187071)
This Lombardozzi kid...he's going to be alright.
   15. Esoteric Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:28 PM (#4187072)
Okay, now I'm fully, completely, 100% back to hating David Wright the way I used to back in the day.
   16. formerly dp Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:29 PM (#4187075)
Man, I thought Met fans were fatalists-- you're down by 4 in the 3rd. And you're facing a team without a functioning bullpen.

That was a weird play by Wright-- longest backhand flip I've seen in a while.

The Nats aren't exactly known for their explosive offense.

The Met bullpen can do wonders for your offense.

That should not have been a hit. No damage done, at least.
   19. formerly dp Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:37 PM (#4187086)
Damn, that's an early hook.
   20. Esoteric Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:47 PM (#4187099)
DAVID WRIGHT.

PED TEST.

DO IT NOW. AFTER THE GAME. THE MAN MUST BE STOPPED.
   21. formerly dp Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:47 PM (#4187100)
OK, now you can be pessimists. I'm calling this one.
   22. formerly dp Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:48 PM (#4187102)
DO IT NOW. AFTER THE GAME. THE MAN MUST BE STOPPED.

Playing without a fractured back does wonders for a guy.
   23. PreservedFish Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:50 PM (#4187104)
Hey, this game is going well.
   24. Yonder Alonso in misguided trousers (cardinal) Posted: July 19, 2012 at 01:53 PM (#4187109)
I didn't realize they were playing an afternoon game until just now when my dad texted me. Wright's two homers are good but Ike's 2 for 2 so far.
   25. Lassus Posted: July 19, 2012 at 02:05 PM (#4187128)
Winning the pythag series while losing the series is still disappointing.
   26. Yonder Alonso in misguided trousers (cardinal) Posted: July 19, 2012 at 02:08 PM (#4187130)
The fact that ESPN's gamecast defaults to showing tweets from various ESPN goons among the actual plays is making me irrationally angry.
   27. formerly dp Posted: July 19, 2012 at 02:23 PM (#4187145)
I would like some insurance runs now. Either that or Dickey will have to pitch a full 9.
   28. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 19, 2012 at 02:27 PM (#4187149)
Now I have to root for the Giants to somehow score in the ninth off Kimbrel, which most likely isn't going to happen.
   29. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 19, 2012 at 02:59 PM (#4187181)
My Gamecast now shows R.A. Dickey pitching to R.A. Dickey. The man is truly incredible.
   30. formerly dp Posted: July 19, 2012 at 03:11 PM (#4187201)
I kind of called this above. 9 is not enough.
   31. Lassus Posted: July 19, 2012 at 03:30 PM (#4187225)
Can Parnell get a five-outrun save?
   32. Yonder Alonso in misguided trousers (cardinal) Posted: July 19, 2012 at 03:33 PM (#4187232)
This is excruciating.
   33. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 19, 2012 at 03:39 PM (#4187239)
Sounds like a total cliche, but the thing I love most about this Nats team is that they truly never do give up. They're going to battle like hell right down to the very last out.

Mets too, as demonstrated the last couple games, but the bullpen does its very very best to quell such efforts. It's a head on collision between one of the most exciting and wonderful things about a baseball team and one of the worst.
