Is Atlanta full of hicks? I don't really think so. You should go there some time <strike>John Rocker</strike> RedRiverUnger.
   4. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 28, 2006 at 05:53 PM (#2115607)
By my recollection, atlanta doesn't have enough hicks.

Let's be fair - the Braves have only been doing that to the Mets since '95.

David Wright is 7-10 with 4 hrs and a walk against Ramirez.

Petey's back!

Did anyone else listen to Minaya's interview on the Fan yesterday? It was pretty interesting.

No one I know in the $500 shoe crowd is as dumb as RRU appears to be, so I'm guessing he's a troll (who takes a page from Gob from AD - "You think a guy in a $4500 suit would hang out in Atlanta?")

It's been a while since Jeremy got to say his trademark line about Pedro. Too long, in fact.

I won't be able to catch most of the game tonight, but I look forward to reading about what y'all have to say about Pedro's performance.

I've always wanted to try that I hope it comes out alright.

Did anyone else listen to Minaya's interview on the Fan yesterday? It was pretty interesting.

Anything those of us that missed it should know?

80-90 pitch count on Pedro tonight per Ed Coleman on WFAN...
   23. Old Matt Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:07 PM (#2115941)
So three innings?

The Mets need a healthy Pedro. Bad.
   24. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:25 PM (#2115952)
You think a guy in a $4500 suit would hang out in Atlanta?
$4500 suit. COME ON!!!
   25. Old Matt Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#2115954)
I'm assuming most of you saw this story.

I'd have to say, I'd trade Heilman for Maddux straight up.
   26. Old Matt Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:35 PM (#2115959)
Near sellout crowd? People go to games in Atlanta?
   27. Old Matt Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:37 PM (#2115960)

JOSE REYES!

Jose!
   30. Old Matt Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:41 PM (#2115968)
Surely, Chip Caray can't be serious.

Wright owns HRam.
   31. Joshemy Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:42 PM (#2115969)
David Wright is quickly making Horacio Ramirez his #####.
   32. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:43 PM (#2115972)
Horacio Ramirez has David Wright's name tatooed on his ass.
   33. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:45 PM (#2115974)
I'd have to say, I'd trade Heilman for Maddux straight up.

Why? Is Maddux at this point a good bet to have an ERA below 4.50? I doubt it.
   34. Joshemy Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:45 PM (#2115975)
Julio!
   35. Banta Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:46 PM (#2115976)
Pedro really needs to have a good start tonight, just to assure that Omar doesn't do anything foolish at the trading deadline. A healthy Pedro goes a long way towards making the rotation look respectable.

Off to a good start!
   36. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:46 PM (#2115977)
Franco! Off to a good start!
   37. Joshemy Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:47 PM (#2115978)
Nice start. Now let's go Petey!
   38. Banta Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:49 PM (#2115979)
Is Maddux at this point a good bet to have an ERA below 4.50?

He's Greg MADDUX though. And Aaron Heilman is a couple outing away from getting an F. in the middle of his name.

Even though Maddux might be done, I'd probably do that trade too. Heilman has been the worst guy in the bullpen this year. He might get better, but he's not that important to this team at this point.
   39. Banta Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#2115982)
Aw ####. Come on, Pedro.
   40. Joshemy Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#2115983)
Past a diving <strike>Jeter</strike> Wright and Reyes.
   41. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#2115984)
Ugh. There should be two outs.
   42. Chris Dial Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2115985)
Both of those grounders should have been fielded.
   43. Banta Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:54 PM (#2115988)
This is not good.
   44. Banta Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:56 PM (#2115989)
Wright probably should have had that one too.
   45. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:56 PM (#2115990)
Even though Maddux might be done, I'd probably do that trade too. Heilman has been the worst guy in the bullpen this year. He might get better, but he's not that important to this team at this point.

Heilman had a bad few weeks, other than that he's been good. And I fail to see how another 4.50-5.00 ERA guy in the rotation is going to be an important part of the team.
   46. Rough Carrigan Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:57 PM (#2115991)
A question for the Mets fans.
I went to Shea for the first time on June 4 (Milledge's first homer, tying the game in the 10th IIRC!) I was shocked that the fans pretty much sat there waiting for the PA system to tell them "Every-body clap your hands!" and then further prompting the fans with the WAY to clap said hands, an accelerated golf clap sort of clap which the fans dutifully mimicked.
How long has Shea been like that? My buddies and I were shocked that they didn't just let a crowd of obnoxious, type A, northeasterners go ahead and cheer as they saw fit.
   47. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:57 PM (#2115992)
This is terrible.
   48. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 28, 2006 at 11:58 PM (#2115994)
Tie game!!

Just so everyone knows, I was not shot by the terrorists in seattle, though I was a block away when it happened.
   49. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:00 AM (#2115996)
He is not locating well at all.
   50. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:01 AM (#2115997)
That was an awful 0-2 pitch.
   51. formerly dp Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:01 AM (#2115999)
It's his first game back. We're facing Horacio Ramirez. Everything will be fine. O, and we have a double-digit margin for error...
   52. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:02 AM (#2116001)
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Pedro isn't quite game ready yet.
   53. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:03 AM (#2116002)
Mccann! Francouer!

Sorry, I'm a little behind, watching the news right now. Apparently there is a good chance one shooter is still on the loose.
   54. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:03 AM (#2116003)
Well, that was a disaster.
   55. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:04 AM (#2116004)
Three balls should have been fielded. Only Francoeuer's hit was good - okay, maybe Giles. I can't figure out why Wright was WAY off the line with Andruw up. Pedro must not be close to his spots - and I mean 2 feet off.
   56. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:05 AM (#2116005)
Funny how things work.

Last year, Pedro was responsible for the Mets keeping Mike Jacobs on the roster after he homered in his first ML at-bat. Jacobs, of course, went on his torrid west coast streak and that one week of success made him the primary piece in the package for Delgado.

This year, Pedro has ended Lastings Milledge's career as a Met.
   57. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:06 AM (#2116006)
A couple of those balls should have been fielded but Pedro doesn't look good at all.
   58. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:06 AM (#2116007)
At least Ramirez stinks.
   59. Rough Carrigan Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:06 AM (#2116008)
Pedro's history with the Red Sox was that he either had it or he didn't. There were a couple times where a team got a bunch of runs of him and then Pedro got pi55ed off and shut the door on them for 7 innings (I remember one game where KC somehow scored 5 and he stood out there with a scowl on his face gave them nothing after that) but usually he had it or he didn't. If he gave up a bunch of runs early he didn't stop giving up runs. Admittedly, we're dealing with a small sample size because he seldom gave up a lot of runs. But this doesn't augur well.
   60. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#2116011)
Pedro trying to get the runs back!
   61. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#2116012)
I don't care if some of the balls should have been fielded. Pedro missed badly on every pitch that was hit.

Last double for Pedro was nine years ago? Holy ####.
   62. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#2116013)
At least Pedro can hit.
   63. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#2116014)
Alright, so, uh, Pedro decided to become a hitter instead.
   64. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:08 AM (#2116016)
What the hell? Why does gamecast only give me accounts of two outs from the braves half of the first? Did langerhans make the last out?
   65. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:08 AM (#2116017)
WTF, Pedro with the double. Baseball's funny. His hitting has been better than his pitching so far.
   66. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:09 AM (#2116018)
FOUR-PITCH WALK! I love you Reyes 2.0!
   67. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:09 AM (#2116021)
Reyes walk!
   68. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:10 AM (#2116022)
It would be hilarious for Lo Duca to hit a double here. Reyes might beat him home.
   69. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:11 AM (#2116023)
That LoDuca, with his productive outs!
   70. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2116025)
How do you swing at a pitch when Ramirez has thrown six straight balls? Only Lo Duca!
   71. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2116026)
Beltran!
   72. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2116027)
Beltran 2.0 isn't bad either.
   73. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2116028)
I guess the body count is up to five now. Noone dead yet though.
   74. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2116029)
Beltran! Tied back up!
   75. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:13 AM (#2116030)
Chip just called Wright Darth Vader. It's notable because it's the only time in his career he will ever be called that.

Beltran!
   76. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:13 AM (#2116032)
Tie Game!
   77. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:15 AM (#2116035)
So, Pedro, let's, you know, be awesome this time.
   78. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:16 AM (#2116037)
We need the defense to field the ball. Pedro was actually "ugly" fine in the first, and should hae gotten a DP from Renteria's BIP and an easy out from Andruw's. If he gets those similar BIPs the rest of the game, he'll be good.
   79. Meatwad Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:18 AM (#2116043)
you mets fans are nuts no way would the cubs trade maddux for heilman, he is one of the few pitchers the cubs can hit, besides they have bullpen fodder and plenty of young guys to throw into the rotation with out having to trade madux
   80. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:19 AM (#2116045)
Can someone who speaks Moron decode #83 for me?
   81. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:20 AM (#2116047)
Yulieski Gourriel and Eduardo Paret defected from Cuba.
   82. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#2116048)
DP!
   83. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#2116049)
Much better, Pedro.
   84. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#2116050)
There's the double play.
   85. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#2116051)
Stache turns it like none other!
   86. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#2116053)
And that DP is just what I was talking about.
   87. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:22 AM (#2116054)
Yulieski Gourriel
He's very good. He's young. He plays second base. Omar should be on the phone this instant.
   88. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:24 AM (#2116057)
Pedro's at the point of his career where he has to work backwards. He's got to throw his offspeed pitches for strikes to set up his fastball. When everything is working, he's still as good as anyone. When he can't locate his curve and change, he's just not very good.
   89. Meatwad Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:24 AM (#2116058)
Banta, basically i mean the cubs dont need heilman, they have young pitchers who arnt that bad
   90. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:25 AM (#2116060)
He's got to throw his offspeed pitches for strikes to set up his fastball.

It's called being El Duque.

Except El Duque has the better fastball at this point.

It's starting to seem that the broken wrist has made Nady a better hitter.
   91. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:26 AM (#2116062)
Fine, we'll give the Cubs Victor Diaz. Remember him? He's good. He hit a home run off you guys.
   92. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:27 AM (#2116063)
I like Floyd here against HoRam.
   93. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:30 AM (#2116068)
Fine, we'll give the Cubs Victor Diaz.

Hell, we'll throw in Michael Tucker too. He's got a major case of veteran presence going on. Dusty will love him.
   94. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:30 AM (#2116069)
Let's go Stache!
   95. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:32 AM (#2116071)
Sac fly!
   96. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:39 AM (#2116078)
So Wright gets that Andruw BIP - hit in teh same spot at the same speed.
   97. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:40 AM (#2116079)
How did that ball carry that far?
   98. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:41 AM (#2116081)
If someone doesn't believe in global warming, all they have to do is look at Rick Peterson not wearing his jacket the last few days.
   99. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:42 AM (#2116083)
Nice work Pedro. don't worry about giving up that hit to Chipper - he's actually good.
   100. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 12:42 AM (#2116084)
Beltran is really good defensively. I thought that was getting down.
