Lo Duca in the starting lineup. I'm pretty sure that's the first time all year that Lo Duca is starting both games of a day game after a night game. Wonder why that is? Does Willie really want to make a "statement"?
   2. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 04:46 PM (#2116682)
Endy in RF. Delgado back in there.

Pete Orr at 3B. Hah.

Lo Duca in the starting lineup. I'm pretty sure that's the first time all year that Lo Duca is starting both games of a day game after a night game. Wonder why that is? Does Willie really want to make a "statement"?

And if he really is hurting as Dayn Perry suggests, this is assinine to the highest level.
   3. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:01 PM (#2116689)
If this is how Willie plans to use LoDuca in the second half, his batting average isn't gonna last for long.
   4. villainx Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:10 PM (#2116697)
And if he really is hurting as Dayn Perry suggests, this is assinine to the highest level.

Then it can't be that surprising that Willie is doing it, is it?
   5. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:11 PM (#2116699)
It may also be related to the starter's preference.
   6. villainx Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:12 PM (#2116701)
It may also be related to the starter's preference.

Someone tell Hernandez it's not Fidel behind the plate. Or was that too easy?
   7. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:14 PM (#2116702)
Assinine on both parts then. Lo Duca should know his history and the fact the Mets have a 13 game lead.
   8. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:14 PM (#2116703)
Lets go for the kill.
   9. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#2116706)
Pete orr is in this game?

What the hell?

What are the odds fox gives me this game, 2%?
   10. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:20 PM (#2116707)
KENNY ALBERT NOOOOO!
   11. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:20 PM (#2116708)
No Buck or McCarver. Nice.
   12. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:21 PM (#2116710)
####. The ####### red sox. #### you fox.
   13. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:22 PM (#2116711)
Pinella isn't bad. Albert's voice just pisses me off. Makes me want to throw things.

But they are better than Buck and McCarver, who would be talking about trades all day.
   14. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:22 PM (#2116712)
Kenny Albert doesn't have a soul. You can tell if you look into his eyes. It's completely empty.
   15. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:24 PM (#2116716)
In fact, I suspect that Kenny Albert was built, not born.
   16. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2116718)
Reyes rocks.
   17. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2116719)
When the Braves got Tim Hudson, I sort of wished that the Mets would have tried that instead of signing Pedro.

I'm quite the idiot, I guess.
   18. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:28 PM (#2116721)
He was safe. He never tagged him.
   19. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:28 PM (#2116722)
Too bad the ball beat him there. His hand slid under the crappy tag.
   20. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:28 PM (#2116723)
Reyes rocks.

Does he now?
   21. Russlan is not Russian Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2116724)
Does he now?

Of course.
   22. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2116725)
I'm quite the idiot, I guess.

Yes.
   23. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2116726)
Love seeing all those Mets fans in the first rows behind home plate.
   24. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2116727)
Hudson cannot throw strikes. Everything is low. That's a orivlem against Beltran.
   25. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2116728)
Beltran!

Man, what the #### happened to Tim Hudson?
   26. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2116729)
Beltran! that could be 3-0.
   27. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2116730)
Beltran!!
   28. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2116731)
Todd Hundley, beware!
   29. Russlan is not Russian Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2116732)
Tim Hudson is cooked.
   30. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2116733)
Wow, my friend just called that home run to right on the 2-0 count.
   31. PreservedFish Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2116734)
Ding Dong!
   32. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2116735)
Orivlem is how we say "problem" in my country.
   33. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:32 PM (#2116736)
Too bad about the CS. Still, gotta love those first inning runs.
   34. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:32 PM (#2116737)
####. The ####### red sox. #### you fox.

Don't live in an American League town, bonehead.

Wait, the braves traded betemit yesterday?! #### me.
   36. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:33 PM (#2116739)
We lead teh majors in first inning runs. We've scored 90 of them. That's almost one a game.
   37. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:34 PM (#2116741)
Wait, the braves traded betemit yesterday?! #### me.

For veteran relief help!
   38. PreservedFish Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:34 PM (#2116743)
I looked up orivlem on Dictionary.com ... it suggested "Oriflamb"

"1. The ancient royal standard of France. [So called because it was a flag of red silk, split into many points, and borne on a gilded lance.]"
   39. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:35 PM (#2116744)
Wait, the braves traded betemit yesterday?! #### me.

Now you know why Pete Orr is in thegame. I mentioned in teh Lounge last night that ".204 Pete Orr" was going to be starting today.
   40. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:37 PM (#2116746)
El Duque has given up a .973 OPS (.373/.600) to lefties. That's scary.
   41. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2116748)
Now you know why Pete Orr is in thegame. I mentioned in teh Lounge last night that ".204 Pete Orr" was going to be starting today.

Yes, you called it. I've been catching up. No BTF for me after 6 or so yesterday.
   42. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2116749)
Well, that's an awesome start for El Duque.
   43. Russlan is not Russian Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2116751)
I blame Trachsel for that HBP.
   44. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2116752)
El Crappy is in full swing today, I see.
   45. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:40 PM (#2116753)
So there are people out there who would rather see El Duque start a playoff game over Trachsel?
   46. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2116754)
Well that sucked.
   47. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2116756)
God, Wright, you're a disgrace sometimes.
   48. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2116757)
That was ####### ugly David.
   49. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2116758)
What the heck was that, David?
   50. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:42 PM (#2116759)
Wow, mccann must be in a mini slump. Dropped 10 points in BA the last few days.
   51. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2116760)
Even more bad defense - Duque should have been out of this inning.
   52. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2116761)
El Duque's just too combustible for a playoff start. But I think he'll end up starting game 4 anyway.
   53. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2116762)
David Wright clearly can't handle the pressure of New York. He's the new Chuck Knoblauch and must be traded.

Nice play by Renteria to tag up.
   54. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:46 PM (#2116764)
Look at that range!
   55. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:46 PM (#2116765)
El Duque's just too combustible for a playoff start. But I think he'll end up starting game 4 anyway.

That assumes that the Mets aren't swept out of the first round in three games.

Andruw Jones swings at a lot of pitches that aren't strikes.
   56. Russlan is not Russian Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:46 PM (#2116767)
Is it just me or was did Valentin show some very good range on that last play?
   57. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2116768)
The difference in confidence that I have when a ball is hit to Valentin vs. Wright is very wide.
   58. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2116769)
Good work El Duque.
   59. PreservedFish Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2116771)
Am I the only one that thinks that when you add El Duque's wild unpredictability this season ... with his famous penchant for kicking butt in October ... it's possible that he can be good in the playoffs again? Because we've seen he has the potential to be very good, and he'll be, um, trying harder, or something?

Not that I'd bank on it.
   60. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:48 PM (#2116772)
Steroids make kids disappear?
   61. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:49 PM (#2116773)
I don't know why I looked this up, but it's pretty amusing.

Beltran's birthday is April 24, 1977
Andruw Jones's birthday is April 23, 1977
   62. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:49 PM (#2116775)
It's possible PF, but like you said, really hard to count on. I liked El Duque's role in the playoffs with the White Sox last year.
   63. Russlan is not Russian Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:50 PM (#2116778)
I didn't see the commercial but I think the meaning of that commercial is that it makes your "balls" shrink if that's the one I'm thinking of.
   64. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:50 PM (#2116779)
Is it just me or was did Valentin show some very good range on that last play?

Yes, and that's the sort of play I'm talking about when I say that Matsui didn't go well to his right. Matsui wouldn't get within 7 feet of that ball.
   65. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:51 PM (#2116780)
"Combustible" for Duque??? He's pitched great that inning.
   66. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:51 PM (#2116781)
Ender's Game!
   67. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:52 PM (#2116782)
Endy magic!
   68. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:52 PM (#2116783)
Endy is so freaking magical, it's insane.
   69. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:53 PM (#2116784)
Is it just me or was did Valentin show some very good range on that last play?

It was just you. The ball *really* dragged through the infield. I thought he was late getting over there.
   70. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:54 PM (#2116785)
Lou Pinella didn't know what a safety squeeze was until Don Zimmer taught it to him in Tampa?

That's sad.
   71. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:55 PM (#2116787)
The ball *really* dragged through the infield. I thought he was late getting over there.

No way he was late! The ball wasn't hit that well, but it looked like Valentin had a bit to go from where he was positioned.
   72. PreservedFish Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:56 PM (#2116788)
His role last year was as a combo longman-ROOGY, right? I think he could definitely do well like that.
   73. PreservedFish Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#2116789)
WFAN gamecast disagree about that score. Do I trust Howie Rose or a computer? 3-1 Mets?
   74. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 05:59 PM (#2116790)
It's definitely 3-1. Who was wrong?
   75. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:00 PM (#2116791)
His hands are longer than yours.
   76. PreservedFish Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:01 PM (#2116792)
Gamecast was wrong. It had given El Duque an RBI, 4-1 Mets.
   77. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:01 PM (#2116793)
Okay...
   78. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2116794)
Some real fine defense so far in this series.
   79. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2116795)
Reyes and Wright apparently don't like DPs.
   80. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2116796)
Get in front of the ball first, Jose!
   81. Russlan is not Russian Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2116797)
That's just laziness on Reyes' part.
   82. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:04 PM (#2116798)
The Gold Dust Twins are having a rough game afield.
   83. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#2116799)
Those Latinos, they love the heat Lou.
   84. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:06 PM (#2116802)
That's so crappy. If the left side of the infield would field, the Braves should be scoreless.
   85. Chris Dial Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:07 PM (#2116803)
We can give away the runs, huh?
   86. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:07 PM (#2116804)
Well, at least pete orr does have some wheels.

Speed never slumps!
   87. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#2116805)
Lo Duca should have been called out on strikes twice.

Chemistry never slumps!
   88. Joshemy Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:14 PM (#2116807)
HBP #2 of the day.
   89. Old Matt Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:15 PM (#2116809)
I like this. Why risk it?
   90. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:16 PM (#2116810)
I can't say I blame Delgado for leaving. That sounded like it really hurt.
   91. Anabolix Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:16 PM (#2116811)
Delgado taken out!
   92. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#2116812)
Julio Franco is pretty smooth.

Father Time!

Franco steals a base!
   96. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:18 PM (#2116816)
Franco rules.
   97. Banta Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:18 PM (#2116817)
Damn you Fox for that gas cost graphic again!!

GAS COST 1.30 ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO. NOT JUST IN 1982.

Franco is a terror on the basepaths.
   98. Russlan is not Russian Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:18 PM (#2116818)
Father time!!

Heh. Julio running. Excellent.
   100. Bob Koo Posted: July 29, 2006 at 06:20 PM (#2116821)
Why work the count to 3-1 if you're going to swing at that?
