I get to watch this one on TV! WOO!
   2. Шĥy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:01 PM (#1966528)
Beltran is out today with a stiff hamstring.
   3. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:10 PM (#1966541)
Beltran is out today with a stiff hamstring.

Oh, so I guess Endy Chavez is batting second today.
   4. Шĥy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:18 PM (#1966551)
Oh, so I guess Endy Chavez is batting second today.

I would guess third.
   5. Raskolnikov Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:24 PM (#1966558)
Knowing Willie, Bannister will hit 2nd today.
   6. Raskolnikov Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:32 PM (#1966564)
Not a great matchup for the Mets today. Hopefully, Sheets will be rusty.
   7. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:39 PM (#1966575)

   8. Шĥy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:39 PM (#1966578)
Wow. Wright is hitting cleanup and Delgado is hitting third.
   9. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 04:53 PM (#1966590)
Wow. Wright is hitting cleanup and Delgado is hitting third.

Willie wants to keep the separation of lefties.
   10. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:08 PM (#1966615)
Blue hats and pinstripes, how I miss thee!
   11. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:12 PM (#1966621)
Nice curve!
   12. Chip Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:15 PM (#1966625)
The Brewers announcers just told us Beltran isn't playing today because of "lack of hustle" in this series. Completely ignored the reports on his hamstring.
   13. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:15 PM (#1966626)
This is intense, I'm also gettting the Flyers/Devils game...the Flyers need a win to take the lead in the Atlantic division with one game to play.

Major channel flipping to commence.
   14. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#1966633)
And there's a walk off a 3-1 count.
   15. villainx Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#1966634)
JHeit, I found the same thing, televised baseball. It's amazing.

First look at the Mets all year for me.
   16. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#1966635)
Way too many pitches this inning. And now he walks Lee.
   17. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:20 PM (#1966638)
Gets out of it. 24 pitches though.

Now it is everyone's first look at Sheets.
   18. villainx Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:21 PM (#1966639)
Matt, I think it was on purpose, why pitch to Lee if Koskie is up next.
   19. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:22 PM (#1966643)
Over under on Bannister's WHIP this season:

1.40
   20. PreservedFish Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:23 PM (#1966645)
What do people think of Bannister? Is he gonna be a good pitcher?
   21. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:23 PM (#1966646)
Sheets going with the scruffy look in 2006.
   22. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:24 PM (#1966648)
Paulie with some warning track power.
   23. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:25 PM (#1966649)
I'll say over Russlan, but not by very much.
   24. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:25 PM (#1966652)
This is intense, I'm also gettting the Flyers/Devils game...the Flyers need a win to take the lead in the Atlantic division with one game to play.

Let's go Devils! Gionta baby!
   25. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:25 PM (#1966653)
That was some curveball.
   26. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#1966654)
Damn you defensive shift!

Sheets looks pretty good.
   27. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:27 PM (#1966657)
What do people think of Bannister? Is he gonna be a good pitcher?

I'd be very happy with a 4.25 ERA.
   28. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:28 PM (#1966661)
Right now I'd rather have Kaz Matsui than Jose Valentin.
   29. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:29 PM (#1966663)
Both Brewers hits today have been on Bannister fastballs right down the middle.
   30. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#1966665)
The thing that concerns me most - and we're seeing it today - is that Bannister has no out pitch.
   31. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:32 PM (#1966667)
Not a good start for Bannister.
   32. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:32 PM (#1966669)
Gets ahead and then walks him. Not quite the Nats lineup...

This is also taking him a ton of pitches.
   33. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:32 PM (#1966670)
If he isn't using the curve as his out pitch, he's going to struggle.
   34. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:34 PM (#1966674)
Another walk. He is not controlling his fastball well at all today.
   35. PreservedFish Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:36 PM (#1966678)
I think control pitchers that have control problems aren't worth very much.
   36. Cowboy Popup Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:37 PM (#1966679)
When did the Brewers get Gabe Gross?
   37. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:37 PM (#1966682)
Big K!
   38. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#1966683)
One more out.
   39. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#1966685)
When did the Brewers get Gabe Gross?

Overbay trade.
   40. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#1966689)
Yes!
   41. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#1966690)
And Brian Bannister pulls a Victor Zambrano special.

52 pitches through two.
   42. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#1966691)
51 pitches...great.
   43. PreservedFish Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#1966692)
Wow, got out of it. Way to buckle down
   44. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:40 PM (#1966693)
Good job getting out of the jam, but Bannister is living dangerously. He isn't going to be able to do this consistently. He needs to get ahead and cut down on the walks.
   45. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:40 PM (#1966695)
He is not controlling his fastball well at all today.

He hasn't really at all yet in the times I've seen him pitch.

I really don't feel Bannister is major league ready. If the Mets weren't convinced that Heilman sucks as a starter, I don't think that Bannister would be in the majors.
   46. PreservedFish Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#1966699)
This is like Al Leiter his last year with the Mets. Good ERA, horrifying performance
   47. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#1966700)
David Wright is not impressed with your silly curvevball.
   48. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#1966701)
David Wright should never leave the cleanup spot.
   49. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:42 PM (#1966702)
2-0 Devils!
   50. villainx Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:42 PM (#1966703)
Is Wright holding his bat higher this season?
   51. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#1966704)
Statistical oddity: Wright's BA is higher than his OBP.
   52. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#1966706)
2-0 Devils!

Esche blows.
   53. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#1966708)
I said Bannister would be our third best starter and I'm sticking with it.
   54. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#1966710)
Triple X!
   55. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#1966711)
X-man!!!
   56. villainx Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#1966712)
I swear, I was just typing that this is a good matchup for Nady, heat versus a steak hitter.
   57. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#1966713)
X!
   58. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:45 PM (#1966715)
X MARKS THE SPOT
   59. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:45 PM (#1966716)
Xavier the Saviour!
   60. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#1966720)
Seven pitch at-bat for Endichiro!, not bad.
   61. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#1966721)
Thanks to games like Baseball Mogul, I feel like Endy Chavez is 40 years old already.
   62. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:48 PM (#1966722)
IPOR with a Mientikiewicz to end the inning.
   63. RB in NYC (Now Semi-Retired from BBTF) Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:48 PM (#1966723)
How long do the Mets plan to stick with the hitting styings of Anderson Hernandez? He's in the line-up until they stop winning?
   64. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:49 PM (#1966725)
How long do the Mets plan to stick with the hitting styings of Anderson Hernandez? He's in the line-up until they stop winning?

Yes.
   65. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:50 PM (#1966728)
And it starts again...
   66. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:53 PM (#1966731)
Bannister's curve is really Bannister's only plus pitch. He needs to throw it more.
   67. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:53 PM (#1966732)
I'd feel better about Bannister in the rotation if Zambrano somehow fell off the face of the Earth.
   68. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:53 PM (#1966733)
Get Bradford up.
   69. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:54 PM (#1966734)
Trouble again.
   70. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:54 PM (#1966735)
Zambrano is going to have a better season than Bannister.
   71. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:55 PM (#1966737)
He is all over the place.
   72. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#1966739)
Walk number 4. And loading the bases with the Prince coming up.
   73. good_ol_gil Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#1966740)
This is difficult to watch.
   74. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#1966741)
Come on, Bannister. COME ON
   75. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#1966742)
Ugh.
   76. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#1966746)
That curve was nowhere close.
   77. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:59 PM (#1966748)
Zambrano is going to have a better season than Bannister.

I don't disagree. I'm just saying we don't need two pitchers who tax the bullpen. Especially with the way that Willie uses his pitchers.
   78. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:59 PM (#1966749)
Another big K!
   79. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 05:59 PM (#1966750)
Big K!
   80. CrosbyBird Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:03 PM (#1966756)
Houdini.
   81. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:03 PM (#1966757)
Is Al Leiter pitching?

Shoot me, he gets out of it again.
   82. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:03 PM (#1966758)
Woo!
   83. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:03 PM (#1966759)
Brian Bannister does the Victor Zambrano dance to perfection again.

This is unbelievable. Aaron better be ready to throw multiple innings today.
   84. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:03 PM (#1966761)
This IS a very Leiter-like performance.
   85. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#1966765)
81 pitches through three innings. And 42 strikes, which is approx. 52%
   86. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#1966766)
I think we get to find out today whether pitch counts and young pitchers mean anything to Willie.
   87. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#1966767)
80 pitches in three innings. He might not make it to 5 innings.
   88. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:06 PM (#1966769)
I meant to say "pitch counts for young pitchers"
   89. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:07 PM (#1966770)
Reyes down to .292.
   90. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:08 PM (#1966773)
Paulie with a two-out hit. Come on Carlos, let's get a little rally going.
   91. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#1966781)
Eww... ugly swing from Delgado.

Come on Bannister, get a quick inning.
   92. Banta Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#1966782)
That wasn't a very good at bat, Delgado.
   93. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:12 PM (#1966785)
Ugh. Ddelgado struck out on Ball 4 there.
   94. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:15 PM (#1966794)
Darn. Good effort from Floyd though.
   95. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#1966802)
Wild Pitch. Ugh.
   96. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#1966804)
REYES! Nice play to stop the base-hit.
   97. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#1966805)
Beautiful play by Reyes.
   98. Joshemy Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:19 PM (#1966806)
Another double.
   99. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:19 PM (#1966807)
Bannister is finished.
   100. Old Matt Posted: April 16, 2006 at 06:19 PM (#1966810)
Take him the #### out, he's done.
