Once more unto the breach against the ten foot tall soft-tosser.
   2. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4190223)
Man, was Bryce ever due to jack one out!
   3. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:19 PM (#4190230)
Good to see Bryce find his power stroke again.
   4. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4190238)
I never noticed until now that Citi Field has orange foul poles.
   5. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:25 PM (#4190240)
This is not good.
   6. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4190255)
Wright is so damn good I'm almost stunned when we manage to keep him off the bases.
   7. PreservedFish Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:37 PM (#4190257)
The Mets are an unmitigated disaster right now.
   8. TerpNats Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4190258)
The Mets had orange foul poles at Shea. Did they have them at the Polo Grounds?
   9. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4190265)
Quality aside, Jordan Zimmerman reminds me a lot of Dave Bush on the mound. Same build, same high socks, short windup.
   10. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4190294)
I am not amused, Jordany.
   11. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4190295)
Coulda sworn I saw this inning already.
   12. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:17 PM (#4190296)
Well crap that didn't happen last time.

####### David Wright.
   13. PreservedFish Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:19 PM (#4190298)
Jordany fascinates me. What's he going to end up like?
   14. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4190312)
It's so nice not having Duda out there. That's a triple if he's in right.
   15. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4190318)
I've got a bad feeling about this inning.
   16. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:43 PM (#4190320)
Great, here comes the rain now. Bad stuff always seems to happen to us when it starts raining.
   17. PreservedFish Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:44 PM (#4190321)
You guys are so nervous! The Nationals are killing everyone this year, I would expect that it would help your confidence a bit.
   18. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4190322)
double play again would be pretty cool
   19. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4190324)
double play again would be pretty cool

Two outs
   20. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:46 PM (#4190325)
Killing? no, there were months of doing nothing until the seventh inning, and in particular not scoring much at all for this fellow. Crimony, the catching is becoming a real issue.
   21. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4190326)
posted that before the pop up
   22. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:48 PM (#4190330)

Gotcha. Just figured it was a call for Valdespin specific DP.
   23. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4190331)
God it feels good to have Ryan Zimmerman manning the hot corner.
   24. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4190332)
Getting Valdespin right there was enormous with Wright on deck.
   25. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:51 PM (#4190334)
that is zim's pet play for sure, coming in on a weak grounder throwing the guy out like Kent Tekulve.
   26. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4190336)
Wright does it even better.
   27. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4190338)
Man, I'm leaning toward wanting Jordan to hit. Prove me wrong Tyler.
   28. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:56 PM (#4190339)
Yeah, that was a bit easier, since Bernadina was dumb enough to dive.
   29. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4190340)
I really don't think they should've taken Zimmermann out of the game. Wright is going to light Drew Storen up like a Christmas tree.
   30. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 08:58 PM (#4190342)
Somehow or another, the junkballing giant just baffles us every time.
   31. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4190347)
Every time David Wright makes an out it's a moral victory for the Nationals.
   32. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:03 PM (#4190348)
He missed that one by a tiny hair.
   33. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:03 PM (#4190349)
Yeah, I dunno if they're raising the volume during his at bats or what, but that was a loud out.
   34. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4190350)
Boom!
   35. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4190354)
We're losing this game.
   36. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4190355)
this feels a bit familiar, uh, a catcher does CATCH the ball usually, right?
   37. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4190359)
Man, I hate Gonzalez' delivery. I'd almost rather watch Henry. Almost.
   38. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4190365)
I'll gladly take a battle of bullpens against the Mets in a close game over and over and over again.
   39. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4190369)
could use a rocket here
   40. Lassus Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4190385)
Oh good lord, I was avoiding this. Can't we win a damned game?
   41. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4190391)
Get a guy on, be ready to run on a low pitch, your team will be fine. The only trouble for the Mets will be that the rain seems to have stopped.
   42. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4190394)
oops, looks like it's still precipitating, sorry.
   43. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4190400)
I just want to say Jason Bay is awful and that his awfulness is infectious. I blame him entirely for this 10 game stretch.
   44. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4190401)
And the Buckhead Papooses lose 2-1 in Miami, which is nice.
   45. Lassus Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4190405)
Be a hero, Jason Bay. Make everyone here hate you a little less.
   46. Lassus Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4190407)
Especially Russlan. :-)
   47. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4190408)
bad matchups after that dink double
   48. Lassus Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4190411)
sigh
   49. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4190413)
Phew, and Bay feels more of the home crowd love.
   50. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4190421)
bad matchups after that dink double

Bay against pretty much everyone is an unfavorable matchup for the Mets.
   51. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4190424)
Russlan! Where have you been?
   52. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4190426)
Man down.
   53. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4190427)
I hope that poor guy doesn't have a broken leg.
   54. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4190430)
Looks like he's OK, that's good.
   55. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4190431)
Bernadina should be called out for sliding away from the bag on purpose.
   56. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4190432)
yeah, he kind of forgot a runner was coming there
   57. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4190436)
cleats were down, hand on the bag, pretty standard
   58. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4190437)
ugh, veteran bench player, my sphincter, can't move the runners. Need Lombo to pick him up.
   59. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4190438)
Here we go Bryce..
   60. Adam Starblind Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4190440)
They should put one in Bernadina's back, at least. Tomorrow, obvi - not in extra innings.
   61. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4190441)
Okay, Bryce: here is your chance to be a Nationals hero.
   62. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4190443)
I'd take a little more Hamels-style schooling of Harper here.
   63. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4190444)
HERO!
   64. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4190445)
Nice
   65. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4190446)
Yes!
   66. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4190447)
I don't think Beato's getting out of this without giving up 3 or 4 runs.
   67. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:06 PM (#4190448)
Just get a flyball to the outfield, Ryan.
   68. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:07 PM (#4190449)
I don't think Beato's getting out of this without giving up 3 or 4 runs.
Prophet.
   69. Adam Starblind Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:07 PM (#4190450)
Goodnight, folks!
   70. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4190451)
Booyah! The kids call him Zimm!!
   71. TerpNats Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4190452)
The exclamation point!
   72. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4190453)
Ryan Zimmerman was so dominant there he flummoxed GameDay, which thinks Bryce Harper is still on third base and that the score is only 5-2 Nats.
   73. JJ1986 Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:09 PM (#4190454)
Prophet.

Not quite.
   74. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:09 PM (#4190455)
Oh wow, Michael Morse just put a bigger exclamation point on the game than Ryan Zimmerman's.
   75. TerpNats Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:09 PM (#4190456)
For Mets fans, it's deja vu all over again, as a former Mets manager once said.
   76. ThisElevatorIsDrivingMeUpTheWall Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4190458)
If it gets to 12, I'll feel safe.
   77. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4190459)
Kinda feel bad for the Mets' bullpen. This team of theirs is actually admirably scrappy given the adversity they've had to deal with during the offseason...but the 'pen really is as terrible as advertised.

And now Beato walked TOM GORZELANNY.
   78. Esoteric Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4190462)
If the Nats can somehow manage to hold on here, they will have increased their lead over the Braves to 4 & 1/2 games. Which would be sweet.
   79. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:14 PM (#4190464)
If the Mets organization is smart, they'll recognize what a total fluke the first half of their season was and go into sell mode very shortly.
   80. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4190467)
Russlan! Where have you been?

I still lurk often enough but just don't have time to post as much anymore.

   81. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4190468)
If the Mets organization is smart, they'll recognize what a total fluke the first half of their season was and go into sell mode very shortly.

Sell what? The guys who aren't awful are probably more valuable to the Mets than they are on the open market.
   82. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4190474)
I hate this bullpen.
   83. Lassus Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4190475)
As much as I hate to say it, Murphy has to have some decent value at this point.
   84. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4190480)
How many times has a team lost 2 straight games, in extra innings, by 5+ runs?
   85. TerpNats Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:28 PM (#4190482)
54 hours ago, the Nats were staring into the abyss. Now they have a bigger lead over the Braves than when the series started.
   86. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: July 23, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4190484)
As much as I hate to say it, Murphy has to have some decent value at this point.

He's under the Mets control through the 2015 season. He's part of the future unless someone overwhelms the Mets. You're not going to get bluechip guys for him.
