It's like every chance they get, the fans there are trying to make up for the anti-Bonds sentiment everywhere else.

That's awesome. And smart. Bonds is a FA next year... if he decides to try to get past Aaron, it makes it ever more likely that he'll be doing it in a Giant uniform. As opposed to merc'ing for the Yankees or something.
   102. Jack Sommers Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:00 AM (#2057235)
Against his former team and a place where he struggled, El Duque is throwing his best game. It makes no sense which is why it makes so much sense.

See post # 29

Well, leaving a rookie in a basically pressureless lineup spot is a good thing until he gets his legs. Okay, he's hit well, but put him higher in the lineup and he starts pressing.

Managing newcomers is touchy - you keep them out of critical roles until you are sure they have their head on straight.

It's only been a week for goodness sake.

yeah...you're probably right.....OTOH, it just that it seemed like it Randolph forever to move Wright up in the order last year, and would it really put that much more pressure on Milledge to bat 7th or 6th instead of 8th?

I guess it doesn't matter.

I'll be out at Chase field Fri-Sat & Sunday. I hope AZ wins at least a game or two.
   103. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:02 AM (#2057237)
Has anyone heard when Humber is going to return?
   104. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:02 AM (#2057238)
For those of you who have SNY, Chris Cotter just ###### up real bad.
   105. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:03 AM (#2057239)
Jesus, where did this El Duque come from?
   106. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:03 AM (#2057240)
57 pitches through 5 for Duque. This is quite an outing so far.
   107. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:04 AM (#2057241)
What did Cotter do?
   108. CrosbyBird Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:04 AM (#2057242)
What happened?
   109. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:04 AM (#2057243)
For those of you who have SNY, Chris Cotter just ###### up real bad.
I'm in the Lab. What the dilly yo?
   110. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:04 AM (#2057244)
What did he do?
   111. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:05 AM (#2057245)
For those of you who have SNY, Chris Cotter just ###### up real bad.

I saw it. He probably deserves a beatdown. And he'll probably get it too.
   112. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:09 AM (#2057251)
Mark Grace is a ####### whackjob.
   113. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:09 AM (#2057252)
The NYC firefighters football team is in Arizona, having won the trip after beating the NYPD football team. Cotter was interviewing a few of them and at the end of the the interview said something about them being NY's finest. All the firefighters starting yelling "BRAVEST!!" and Cotter corrected himself.

He then just disappeared. I'm pretty sure they killed him.
   114. Chris Dial Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:10 AM (#2057255)
Why don't you tell *us* what he did.
   115. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:10 AM (#2057256)
I know it's only three games but the last three starts from Soler, Trachsel, and Hernandez have to be encouraging. If the Mets get decent production from those three, they should cruise to the division title.
   116. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:11 AM (#2057257)
Agreed Russlan. I'm giddy.
   117. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:12 AM (#2057259)
Mark Grace is a ####### whackjob.

I am pretty certain, having listened for the last couple of innings or so, that Grace has not said one thing that enlightened me even in the slightest way about this game, the way it's been played, or about the game of baseball in general or the way it is played. The man adds less "color" than any "color" man I've ever heard in my life. Put him with Milo Hamilton and you'd have the ultimate colorless broadcast.
   118. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2057260)
Wow, 66 through 6.
   119. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2057261)
Milo Hamilton
Who's that, Sam?
Sam: STFU, Emad... you're out of your element.
   120. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2057262)
Have the Mets thrown a complete game yet this year?
   121. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2057263)
65 pitches through 6. This is unreal.
   122. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:16 AM (#2057264)
When did El Duque become good again?
   123. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:17 AM (#2057265)
Milo Hamilton
Who's that, Sam?

Exhibit A in the argument for WHY Milledge needs a better nickname.
   124. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:17 AM (#2057266)
Who's that, Sam?
Sam: STFU, Emad... you're out of your element.

Sam: <Grumble, grumble> Friggin' middle age. No one remembers the gnats of the old days! The mediocre announcers of yesteryear, the ones who left no imprint on anyone . . . . Milo who? Who was I talking about again? Where's my hearing aid? Where's my damned Metamucil? </Grumble>
   125. Chris Dial Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:18 AM (#2057267)
that Grace has not said one thing that enlightened me even in the slightest way about this game, the way it's been played, or about the game of baseball in general or the way it is played.

Oh, you are familiar with brain-dead hookers?
   126. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:20 AM (#2057269)
The Nationals are only one game behind the Braves. I know they're the Braves but that team is really hurting.
   127. Dr. Vaux Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:20 AM (#2057270)
But Milo Hamilton's still a mediocre announcer to this very day!
   128. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:20 AM (#2057272)
Oh, you are familiar with brain-dead hookers?

Familiar with them? Man, as far as I'm concerned, there's no other kind!
   129. Chris Dial Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:20 AM (#2057273)
Hilaripus PA from El Duque.
   130. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:21 AM (#2057274)
Also, I was thinking about it... and I sort of like Edge for Milledge's nickname. It seems to suit him.
   131. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:21 AM (#2057275)
Definitely Valentin's new nickname. Brain-dead Hooker.
   132. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:22 AM (#2057276)
Best at-bat ever?
   133. CrosbyBird Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:22 AM (#2057278)
13 is not lucky for El Duque, I guess.
   134. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:23 AM (#2057280)
This kid is a Grade-A loser.
   135. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:24 AM (#2057282)
So my broadband service has been totally sucking lately -- on and off, unreliable. The provider has been having major problems lately, and seems to have no resolution in sight? I can get DSL service for pretty much the same price. Any reason I shouldn't?
   136. Chris Dial Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:24 AM (#2057283)
The Celebs are out in Arizona! Wooo - the sixth place speller from the national spelling bee!

Ooof.
   137. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:24 AM (#2057284)
If I ever see this kid, I will consider punching in the face.
   138. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:24 AM (#2057285)
What a dork.
   139. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:24 AM (#2057286)
BEST SIDELINE INTERVIEW EVER!
   140. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:25 AM (#2057288)
I'm pretty sure this was the only CG by a Mets pitcher this year.
   141. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:25 AM (#2057289)
If I ever see this kid, I will consider punching in the face.

Not me. I'm going to buy him a brain-dead hooker.
   142. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:28 AM (#2057292)
Soriano hit another bomb today. He's got 23 already.
   143. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:30 AM (#2057295)
Haboob to you too.
   144. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:30 AM (#2057296)
That was a good PA from Gonzalez. Sucks for us though.
   145. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:33 AM (#2057298)
Clark wasn't looking for that pitch, was he?
   146. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:34 AM (#2057300)
OH MY GOD! LODUCA THREW SOMEONE OUT!
   147. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:34 AM (#2057301)
Luis Gonzalez, you are the weakest link.
   148. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:34 AM (#2057302)
Well, this game is completely charmed. LoDuca throws someone out!
   149. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:35 AM (#2057304)
WTF was that??? I don't care if it was a missed sign -- there shouldn't have been any sign that would have had him running. And Gonzo should have ignored one if he thought he saw it. Bizarre.
   150. CrosbyBird Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:37 AM (#2057307)
Soriano hit another bomb today. He's got 23 already.

I predicted a huge cliff and Soriano leaping off it for a bunch of my fantasy rivals. I was so convinced that he'd crap out in that ballpark that I even excluded him from the draft.

Want some stock tips? Maybe you could short them or something and make money. Wilkerson has 12 HR, which is respectable, but he actually has a lower OBP than Soriano (he has a couple more walks though).
   151. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:43 AM (#2057314)
The Diamondbacks are playing a very stupid game.
   152. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:46 AM (#2057319)
Valentin is some sort of god.
   153. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:47 AM (#2057320)
Stache!

This Aquino guy is not impressive.
   154. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:48 AM (#2057323)
A few more runs and this lead will be big enough for Heath Bell close out.
   155. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:48 AM (#2057324)
The Stache rules!

I'd like to see a grand slam, it's been a while.
   156. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:49 AM (#2057326)
Endy!
   157. Chris Dial Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:49 AM (#2057327)
The Edge gets his first salami here?

That'd be sweet.
   158. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:50 AM (#2057328)
Arizona is good to the Mets offense.

Do we have a nickname for Milledge as suggested by Grace? The Senator.
   159. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:51 AM (#2057330)
Hit hard, but right at Tracy. Damn.
   160. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:51 AM (#2057331)
Damn, that was a rope.
   161. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:52 AM (#2057332)
I don't think Milledge should be associated with Senator Al Leiter.
   162. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:53 AM (#2057334)
Good, Mets. Save those hits with runners in scoring position for when they matter.

You can do that, right?
   163. Jack Sommers Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:54 AM (#2057335)
Do we have a nickname for Milledge as suggested by Grace? The Senator.

I told you guys Gracie was good for somethign :-)
   164. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:56 AM (#2057337)
I love how even with Reyes and Delgado hitting sub-.250, we can still be perfectly happy with the offense.
   165. yo la tengo (the poor man's Ron Darling) Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:58 AM (#2057339)
Is there any reason at all to take Duque out for the ninth?
   166. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:59 AM (#2057341)
Man, this is some outing from Duque. Just awesome.
   167. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 03:59 AM (#2057342)
El Duque is definitely getting a chance at the complete game.
   168. Jack Sommers Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:00 AM (#2057344)
Even though I completely called this in post 29, and even before the game over on our d backs board....(this being El Duque slapping the d backs upside the forehead tonight)....this has to be absolutely fuhking humiliating.
   169. Chris Dial Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:00 AM (#2057345)
Oh, El Duque gets the Complete Game if I am managing. He at least gets to pitch until the tying run could get to the plate.
   170. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:02 AM (#2057347)
Mets have won the trade so far. Julio saved two games against the Braves.
   171. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:02 AM (#2057348)
Very productive night, given the other results.
   172. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:02 AM (#2057349)
Is there any reason at all to take Duque out for the ninth?

Not with all the innings the bullpen has been racking up.
   173. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:05 AM (#2057352)
Man, the DBacks really do have some serious prospects in Triple-A. Stephen Drew, Carlos Quentin, Chris Young and I guess to an extent Scott Hairston.
   174. yo la tengo (the poor man's Ron Darling) Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:05 AM (#2057353)
That's exactly what I was thinking, AJM. Plus, it's not like we're saving Duque's arm for any long term investment. He can throw more pitches than this and simply let everyone else rest.
   175. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:06 AM (#2057354)
Eight games up on the Braves in early June. That is nice. It's not insurmountable, of course. But it sure is nice.
   176. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:07 AM (#2057355)
He's only at 99 pitches. Why wouldn't he get a shot?
   177. Jack Sommers Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:09 AM (#2057356)
Well, we are going to find out if Webb is finally a true "stopper" on Saturday.

He is tired, and somewhat overworked from his last few starts, and has not had an extra days rest in quite a while. (going every 5th day basically)

Mets probably win again tmw night...and Webb basically has to be lights out...shut down....unhittable on Saturday and stop the losing streak.
Of course then the d backs will have the Mets right where they want em....Ortiz vs. Pedro

(it's not safe to drink and post at the same time, is it?)
   178. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:09 AM (#2057357)
When was the last Mets CG, SHO?
   179. yo la tengo (the poor man's Ron Darling) Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:10 AM (#2057358)
I'm a little concerned about Delgado's BA. Is anyone familiar enough with his tendencies to know whether he goes through slumps like this
   180. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:10 AM (#2057359)
David Wright, that is completely unnecessary.
   181. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:13 AM (#2057360)
I think Pedro's SO against the Braves last September was the last one.
   182. Old Matt Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:14 AM (#2057361)
Take a bow El Duque. Take a bow.
   183. Joshemy Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:14 AM (#2057362)
Game!

What a wonderful start from Duque!
   184. Sam M. Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:15 AM (#2057364)
Very, very nice. Thirteen games over .500 for, I believe, the first time all year.
   185. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:15 AM (#2057365)
And that's that. Even better that Philadelphia lost today.
   186. Banta Posted: June 09, 2006 at 04:15 AM (#2057366)
Well, El Duque pretty much PWNED the Diamondbacks, huh?
