Glavine's being smart, which I figured. Work around the guys who can really hurt you (i.e. Lofton, Martin), and go after the guys who can't (Lofton, Anderson, Drew).
   202. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:48 AM (#2200023)
Thank God for Kenny Lofton.
   203. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:48 AM (#2200024)
Did ya notice -- Valentin didn't go for the runner at second that time? ;-)
   204. J. Cross Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:50 AM (#2200028)
I think Glavine is still going well but I'd certainly consider pinch hitting if we get someone on.
   205. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:50 AM (#2200029)
Yes, Jose! Way to come back from 0-2!
   206. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:51 AM (#2200031)
Nice job, Valentin!!! Take the walk, big guy.
   207. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:51 AM (#2200032)
Chavez better be bunting here....
   208. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:51 AM (#2200033)
The Dodgers did that yesterday, too! They hit Valentin with a lefty. This time they walk him. That's awful.
   209. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:51 AM (#2200034)
ENDY MAGIC!
   210. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:51 AM (#2200035)
The decision to let Kuo hit not looking too good right now.
   211. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:51 AM (#2200036)
sweet, an Endy special!
   212. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:52 AM (#2200037)
I REALLY loathe Shawn Green.
   213. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:52 AM (#2200038)
Chavez better be bunting here....

Or not! That worked out just fine, too. (Not that I disagree with ya, Chris, but I'll take the outcome!)
   214. J. Cross Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:52 AM (#2200039)
okay, it's a bunt situation, this is the right move.
   215. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:53 AM (#2200040)
Perfect bunt!

Come on Jose!
   216. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:53 AM (#2200041)
Or singling. that will do.

And Glav gets the bunt down. I told you guys Kuo was gassed after those long FBs.
   217. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:53 AM (#2200042)
Thank you Willie for starting Endy tonight. I didn't think he'd do it after a win. Props to him.
   218. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:53 AM (#2200043)
Oh, what a pro's bunt.

I guess it's gonna be on LoDuca, eh?
   219. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:53 AM (#2200044)
They gonna bring in Tomko for LoDuca?
   220. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:54 AM (#2200049)
I hope Grady goes to the mound...and then walks back without a pitching change. Wouldn't that be a riot?
   221. J. Cross Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:54 AM (#2200046)
Lo Duca's looked better against Kuo so I think this IBB means we're getting Tomko.
   222. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:54 AM (#2200048)
Do the Fox guys still love the move to leave Kuo in? Morons.
   223. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:54 AM (#2200045)
Come on, Bob - you *know* Willie was consulting Primer for our input. *that* is why Endy got the nod.
   224. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:54 AM (#2200047)
Yeah two hits!

Perfect bunt Glavine!

Walk to Reyes. Let's go LoDuca!
   225. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:54 AM (#2200052)
Rats.
   226. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:54 AM (#2200053)
IBB.

Let's go Paulie.
   227. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:55 AM (#2200054)
Glavine with 5 shutout innings, Kuo out before the 5th inning. So far, totally according to script.
   228. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:55 AM (#2200055)
That was clearly the right move -- you HAVE to play for the DP here with LoDuca up and hope to get out of the inning with one swing. But I really wish Jose had had the chance in that situation, damnit.
   229. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:56 AM (#2200056)
Go Lo Duca!
   230. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:57 AM (#2200057)
Productive out. Not the best outcome, but its a run.

Let's go Beltran!
   231. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:57 AM (#2200058)
That's good enough, baby. Definitely good enough. Pitch he could get up in the air, and he took it. Nice.
   232. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:57 AM (#2200059)
Man, Paulie knows he could've done more that. C'mon Carlos, let's do this.
   233. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:58 AM (#2200060)
Good enough.
   234. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:58 AM (#2200061)
That actually worked out better than I expected. I thought Lo Duca was for sure going to DP.
   235. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:59 AM (#2200062)
Oh man, this is it. Break it open, thin Carlos!
   236. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:59 AM (#2200063)
Walk.

Come on Carlos #2. Keep it going!
   237. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:59 AM (#2200064)
This is what we want: our line-up against a right-hander, and their pen in general. First a walk to Carlos # 1 . . . Now, come and get 'em, Carlos # 2!
   238. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 01:59 AM (#2200066)
So how many pitches do you take before you swing at one, if you're the second Carlos?
   239. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:00 AM (#2200067)
Good matchp here for the Mets.
   240. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:01 AM (#2200068)
What did Grady tell him? Throw strikes?
   241. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:02 AM (#2200071)
I think that was the pitching coach out there on the pre-Delgado visit.
   242. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:02 AM (#2200072)
Damn.
   243. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:02 AM (#2200073)
One inning in this series, the floodgates will open. Just not yet.
   244. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:03 AM (#2200074)
Eh... well, still 2-0. One more, Tommy.
   245. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:03 AM (#2200075)
Damnit. That coulda been more . . . . But now that we're in the Dodger pen, I don't think we're done.
   246. J. Cross Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:03 AM (#2200076)
Damn. Big opportunity there.

Big inning coming up.
   247. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:03 AM (#2200077)
I would have liked to get more than one, but it's a good sign.
   248. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:03 AM (#2200078)
Ugh Delgado. Ugh.
   249. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:04 AM (#2200079)
Garciaparra, Kent and Drew.

And Glavine loses concentration after the Mets score.

Could be a bumpy inning.
   250. Old Matt Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:05 AM (#2200080)
Just give us six Tommy.

And whoever wins the Yankees/Tigers game tomorrow, I'm rooting for them to win it in four. If there's a Game 5 in that series, the Mets play a potential Game 4 at 4:00 on Sunday. The Eagles/Cowboys play at 4.
   251. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:06 AM (#2200082)
Feliciford warming
   252. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:06 AM (#2200084)
He can't even run.
   253. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:06 AM (#2200085)
9 GB outs for Glavine. very nice.
   254. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:06 AM (#2200086)
Thank you, Nomah.

Next.
   255. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:07 AM (#2200088)
Two more outs and you gotta be thrilled with Glavine's work. Magnificent. Two more, Tommy. Hopefully, with one swing and a pretty little 4-6-3 DP . . . .
   256. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:08 AM (#2200089)
See if you can get Drew out before he wakes up.
   257. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:08 AM (#2200090)
Nice job by Glavine -- solid in making SURE to get the lead runner.
   258. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:09 AM (#2200091)
One more out Glavine.
   259. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:09 AM (#2200092)
Good job going to second Tommy.
   260. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:09 AM (#2200093)
Another weak grounder.
   261. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200094)
Oh, what a performance. Vintage, absolutely vintage!
   262. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200095)
Tommy Baseball!!!
   263. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200096)
Sweet.
   264. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200097)
solid in making SURE to get the lead runner.

Well, it was Kent running. Even if the throw was late, I am sure he would have obliged by overrunning the bag.
   265. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200098)
Er, 11 GB outs...
   266. J. Cross Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200099)
Whew! Glavine brought the A game tonight.
   267. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200100)
Great job Tommy.
   268. Old Matt Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200101)
Glavine at 93 pitches. Do you send him out?
   269. Rob Base Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:10 AM (#2200102)
NICE. 1 more inning out of Glavine? He's at 93 pitches.
   270. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:11 AM (#2200103)
Great work Tommy! 6 shutout innings is all we need.
   271. Free Rob Base Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:11 AM (#2200105)
Glavine has been phenomenal. Just what the doctor ordered.
   272. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:12 AM (#2200107)
I'd let him pitch the seventh, unless they need to hit for him in the bottom of the sixth.
   273. Rob Base Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:12 AM (#2200108)
I send him out. Pull him at the first baserunner, double-switching Floyd out.
   274. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:12 AM (#2200109)
If his spot comes up in a pinch hit spot, you pinch hit for him.

If not, you have him start the next inning, with a lefty and a righty warming. Whoever is the pinch hitter for Tomko, you take the platoon.
   275. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:13 AM (#2200110)
You know, it's a shame the Mets' starting pitching is in shambles and we have to rely totally on our hitters and bullpen. I mean, Wallace Matthews and the rest of the media told me so. We're doomed with the stumble-bums we're throwing out there to start these games, aren't we?

I mean, I know we don't have anyone throwing 101 MPH bullets . . . but couldn't someone have noticed that Tom Glavine and even John Maine are pretty decent pitchers???
   276. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:13 AM (#2200111)
If he doesn't come up, I'd send Tommy out to try and entice a PH from Grady. If so, then bring in Kool Aid; if not, then let Tommy get Marlon and then go Kool Aid (or direct to Heilman).
   277. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:14 AM (#2200113)
Bullet, David!!! Let's play add-on.
   278. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:14 AM (#2200114)
Yes, I send tommy out.
   279. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:14 AM (#2200115)
I'd start Glavine in the 7th, pull him if he allows a baserunner.
   280. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:15 AM (#2200116)
Hendrickson the only LHP available for the Dodgers?
   281. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:15 AM (#2200118)
What happened to Nomar?
   282. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:15 AM (#2200119)
Awesome.
   283. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:16 AM (#2200120)
As the song goes, this could be the start of something big . . . .
   284. Rob Base Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:16 AM (#2200122)
Looks like his spot probably comes up now though, so it's prob moot.
   285. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:16 AM (#2200123)
I let Glavine choose - and he bats as well.
   286. Free Rob Base Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:16 AM (#2200124)
You know, it's a shame the Mets' starting pitching is in shambles and we have to rely totally on our hitters and bullpen.

Way to jinx the Trachsel and Perez starts.
   287. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:16 AM (#2200125)
Wright! Cliffy!

Come on Stache.
   288. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:16 AM (#2200127)
What happened to Nomar?

They had to shoot him.
   289. Joshemy Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:17 AM (#2200128)
Great bunt Stache!

Let's see some Endy magic!
   290. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:17 AM (#2200129)
Freaking sweet. Terrible play by Betemit.
   291. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:17 AM (#2200130)
Floodgates, open.
   292. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:18 AM (#2200132)
Great bunt.

Time for some Endy Magic.
   293. Sam M. Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:19 AM (#2200133)
Endy Time!!! Let's break this baby OPEN!!!!!

Way to jinx the Trachsel and Perez starts.

Nope, steveb. That's why I was sure to insert "totally." No matter what happens, we already have not had to rely "totally" on the offense and bullpen, with the way Maine and Glavine have contributed. No jinx potential. I got it covered.
   294. Srul Itza Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:19 AM (#2200135)
Barring a triple play or a grand slam, Glavine is out of the game.

Good job, Tom.

I don't think anyone else was warming up for LA - so who is the Met pinch hitter for Glavine?
   297. Chris Dial Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:20 AM (#2200138)
Okay, I think I pinchhit for Glavine now...
   298. Urban Faber Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:21 AM (#2200139)
Oh, how could I forget. My man Julio.
   299. Bob Koo Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:21 AM (#2200140)
I wouldn't use Franco next. He's too much of a GIDP guy.
   300. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 06, 2006 at 02:22 AM (#2200141)
I wouldn't use Franco next. He's too much of a GIDP guy.

It won't matter, Endy's hitting a double.
