Pedro hasn't been the best pitcher in the NL this year but no one dominates the statboard like he does. He's leading the league in Opponent's BA, OBP, and SLG. He's also leading the league in WHIP, K/9, K/BB, and H/9.

I was very critical of the Lowe deal at the time, but coming to LA seems to have transformed him into a top of the rotation starter.

METS SUCK!!!!!!! (runs out of game chatter)
   4. Шĥy Posted: June 06, 2006 at 09:51 PM (#2054097)
The Mets are up to a season high 88% chance to make the playoffs according to BP.
   5. Free Rob Base Posted: June 06, 2006 at 11:15 PM (#2054244)
I hope Delgado lays a bunt or two down the 3b line tonight.
   6. Banta Posted: June 06, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#2054288)
So anyone got any insight into Kevin Mulvey? Sounds pretty good from what I'm reading.

And then there's this. From Newsday:
But rather than go with Billy Wagner, who already was warming for the ninth inning, manager Willie Randolph stuck with Bradford to finish up, which he did by retiring the side in order for his first save since 2004. It was a curious move not to call on Wagner in a save situation, but Randolph had a ready explanation.

"I liked the matchups with Bradford at the end there with the righthanders coming up," Randolph said. "They had no more lefties on the bench. And we've got a long trip, so I want to make sure that we kept them fresh enough to where we can use them a lot going down the stretch."

Only Wagner didn't see it that way, and seemed a little annoyed that Randolph didn't put him in the game at that point. In Wagner's estimation, once he got up to throw, it was no longer a day off.

"That's not a breather," Wagner said. "Mentally you're in the game, you're up. That's why they call you a closer."

Maybe it's nothing and maybe the media is trying to blow something out of proportion, but this isn't the first time Wagner's been complaining. He seems like a bit of a headcase.
   7. Rob Base Posted: June 07, 2006 at 12:00 AM (#2054329)
Wagner needs to STFU.
   8. Шĥy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 12:32 AM (#2054410)
The Mets don't have 99 problems but a b-tch is one.
   9. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 12:40 AM (#2054437)
It sounds like Wagner is like most other closers, he wants to be in there in save situations.
   10. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 12:53 AM (#2054487)
John Maine started in Norfolk. He struck out 7 in 4 innings but allowed 6 ER on 8 hits and 3 walks.
   11. good_ol_gil Posted: June 07, 2006 at 12:56 AM (#2054494)
Wagner needs the saves to make that money, he's gotta stack cheese, he gotta stack cheese, he needs at least two g's in his khakis.
   12. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 01:26 AM (#2054564)
I love that commerical.
   13. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 01:46 AM (#2054645)
Evening gentlemen. Same lineup tonight. Time for some Pedro asskicking.
   14. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 01:46 AM (#2054648)
Pedro is the awesomeness.
   15. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 01:57 AM (#2054671)
Reyes out, Woodward at SS and batting first.
   16. Kiner's Rounded Edge Posted: June 07, 2006 at 01:57 AM (#2054673)
Reyes a late scratch with a sore wrist. Woody playing SS and leading off.
   17. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 01:59 AM (#2054677)
The verdict for tonight? The Mets need to win. Braves are about to win and Russ Ortiz is starting against the Phillies.
   18. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:03 AM (#2054684)
Ortiz is awful. He allowed two runs in the first inning and left the bases loaded only because he was facing Fasano. Yikes he's awful. I expect the Phillies to win but I'm hoping he won't pitch so badly that he won't face the Mets.
   19. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:04 AM (#2054691)
Barring rainouts and skippages in the rotation, Pedro would start Wed. 6/28 in Boston.
   20. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:04 AM (#2054692)
Ortiz gave up a homer, a double, and 3 walks in the first inning. All things considered, he's lucky to only have allowed 2 runs.
   21. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:16 AM (#2054714)
A scoreless first inning with Pedro pitching. I'm shocked!
   22. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:21 AM (#2054718)
Damn you Howie for mentioning that game.

Where is everyone tonight?
   23. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:21 AM (#2054719)
Damn you Nomar!
   24. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:22 AM (#2054720)
Um.
   25. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:22 AM (#2054721)
Ugh. Game over.
   26. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:28 AM (#2054731)
Not a great start to the game. Pedro should have kwown Nomar likes to swing at the first pitch.
   27. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:30 AM (#2054733)
D-Wright and Floyd!
   28. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:31 AM (#2054734)
Mustacho!
   29. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:31 AM (#2054735)
Mustache!

Floyd. Oh crap.
   30. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:31 AM (#2054736)
Ah great, that Floyd injury is on me.
   31. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:31 AM (#2054737)
Mustache!!!!!!1
   32. Flynn Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:32 AM (#2054738)
Vin is God, but Floyd clearly turned over his ankle running into 3rd, not well before 3rd.
   33. CrosbyBird Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:32 AM (#2054739)
That does not look good.
   34. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:33 AM (#2054741)
Uh, that didn't look good.
   35. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:33 AM (#2054742)
That does not look good.
   36. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:33 AM (#2054743)
That was kinda clumsy on Floyd's part.
   37. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:36 AM (#2054750)
Productive out!
   38. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:36 AM (#2054751)
Nice 10-pitch at-bat Milo. Gets the run in.
   39. CrosbyBird Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:37 AM (#2054752)
Milledge with a pretty spectacular AB there.
   40. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:38 AM (#2054755)
Nice work Lastings.
   41. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:40 AM (#2054760)
They're making Lowe work.
   42. BTF's left-wing cheering section (formerly_dp) Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:41 AM (#2054764)
Didn't see the play- is Floyd seriously hurt? The Mets have 3 CFs out there now.
   43. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:42 AM (#2054766)
BlowDuca.
   44. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:44 AM (#2054771)
I don't think he'll be out for too long. It looked like he rolled his ankle although sprained ankles can take forever to heel.
   45. Flynn Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:50 AM (#2054792)
Didn't see the play- is Floyd seriously hurt? The Mets have 3 CFs out there now.

Turned over the ankle running into third.

Not good, but it's not serious. Probably just a slight sprain, might be out for tomorrow.
   46. BTF's left-wing cheering section (formerly_dp) Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:52 AM (#2054798)
i may be dumb or lazy, but can someone explain why we didn't get a 1st round pick? wagner? thanks!
   47. PreservedFish Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:54 AM (#2054799)
Wagner
   48. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:54 AM (#2054800)
Scully continues to call Pedro Ramon.

Wagner is the reason why the Mets didn't get a first rounder. The reason why that didn't happen last year with Pedro and Beltran is that top-10 picks are protected.
   49. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:56 AM (#2054804)
I think the top 15 picks are protected.
   50. PreservedFish Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:57 AM (#2054805)
I think it's the top 15 picks that are protected - hence Kazmir (at 11?)
   51. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 02:57 AM (#2054806)
I was just guessing 10. I know some picks are protected.
   52. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:02 AM (#2054809)
Where else will you learn that David Wright was forced to play RF instead of SS by his dad, who was his little league coach?
   53. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:08 AM (#2054811)
Another steal against Lo Duca. I'm shocked!
   54. PreservedFish Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:13 AM (#2054814)
What the hell is up with Pedro?
   55. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:14 AM (#2054816)
Wow!
   56. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:14 AM (#2054817)
UNBELIEVABLE CATCH!

Beltran's hurt now too.
   57. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:14 AM (#2054818)
Is this the game where the entire team dies? Nice play by Beltran though.
   58. PreservedFish Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2054819)
I hope we don't lose another outfielder. Who would we put in, Alay Soler?
   59. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:16 AM (#2054821)
Matsui would play second, Valentin to second, Woodward to an outfield spot.
   60. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:16 AM (#2054822)
Great catch!

I hope he's alright, we can't lose another OFer.
   61. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:16 AM (#2054823)
Beltran stays in. Whew.

If he were hurt, I think they move Endy to CF, Valentin to LF and put Matsui in at 2B
   62. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:17 AM (#2054825)
Hook!
   63. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:19 AM (#2054826)
You know what's funny? It is entirely possible that Beltran is the third best centerfielder in the outfield right now.
   64. PreservedFish Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:20 AM (#2054827)
I forgot that Matsui existed.
   65. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:21 AM (#2054829)
Scully calls Pedro Ramon again.
   66. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:27 AM (#2054832)
Negative x-rays on Floyd and Reyes.

Just like us, they're both day-to-day.
   67. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:28 AM (#2054833)
I forgot that Matsui existed.

He really is a waste of a roster spot. Mets need to just cut him at this point.
   68. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:30 AM (#2054834)
It is entirely possible that Beltran is the third best centerfielder in the outfield right now.

Which says a lot about the other guys, Beltran is 4th in the majors in ZR among qualified CFers (Chavez leads among guys with more than 100 innings).
   69. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:31 AM (#2054835)
Pedro at 81 pitches through 4. Non-economical.
   70. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:31 AM (#2054836)
Pedro is really erratic tonight and that being exacerbated by the umpire's tight strike zone.
   71. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:31 AM (#2054837)
Let's hope Willie doesn't get the urge to play Matsui at short during the next couple days.
   72. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:31 AM (#2054838)
Mandy Moore!

She's hot.
   73. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:32 AM (#2054839)
Mandy Moore, yum.
   74. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:32 AM (#2054840)
I agreee with #68. I was just saying that's a pretty awesome outfield defensively.
   75. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:38 AM (#2054844)
Things I learned about Beltran b/c of Scully:

He's friends with Chi Chi Rodriguez, is a good golfer, bought a monkey when he was a rookie, and sold it because he didn't want to take care of it for 45 years.
   76. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:40 AM (#2054845)
bought a monkey when he was a rookie

That is awesome.
   77. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2054846)
Let's go David!
   78. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:42 AM (#2054847)
I am shocked by how much Scully knows about Met players.
   79. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:43 AM (#2054848)
####### Beltran.
   80. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:43 AM (#2054849)
Well, I guess that saved a double play...
   81. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:43 AM (#2054850)
Lucky break.
   82. Repoz Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:43 AM (#2054851)
Easy Ed Coleman just burped out..."The Dodgers were headed in the right direction with Tracy at the helm...and then they made the mistake of hiring DePo."

Have another free cold one Eddie...
   83. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:44 AM (#2054853)
Beltran broke up the DP by getting hit.
   84. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:46 AM (#2054854)
On first look, I thought it was getting by the SS, though I could be very wrong.
   85. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:51 AM (#2054858)
That was a quick inning. Stupid play by Furcal there, not that I'm complaining.
   86. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:53 AM (#2054860)
This game refuses to have any pacing at all. Now the umpire's delaying it.
   87. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:55 AM (#2054861)
I would have never gotten Bobo Newsom.
   88. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:57 AM (#2054864)
Pedro isn't getting a win tonight. Let's just hope the Mets get one.
   89. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:57 AM (#2054865)
I agree with Banta on the pacing.
   90. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 03:59 AM (#2054866)
Pedro has recieved 3 runs in support of him in his last 20 IP. It's starting to annoy me.
   91. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:02 AM (#2054867)
Well, ####. This wasn't a good night, Pedro.
   92. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:02 AM (#2054868)
####.
   93. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:03 AM (#2054869)
This homerun #### is pissing me off.
   94. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:03 AM (#2054870)
Ugh.
   95. Repoz Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:04 AM (#2054871)
Pedro...90+ pitches and faltering...most shocking.
   96. CrosbyBird Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:05 AM (#2054874)
If the Dodgers win this one, we're going to give up ground to both Philly (probably: 6-1 in the 7th) and Atlanta (won 5-3).

This is getting ugly quickly.
   97. Banta Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:05 AM (#2054875)
THE WHEELS HAVE FALLEN OFF, THE WHEELS HAVE FALLEN OFF
   98. Joshemy Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:05 AM (#2054876)
Nice catch Valentin.
   99. Old Matt Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:05 AM (#2054877)
Mustacho, #### you.
   100. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 07, 2006 at 04:06 AM (#2054878)
Ugh.
