True to form, playing like jerks to begin the game.
   2. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:05 PM (#4124668)
I am worried about Adrian Gonzalez.
   3. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:08 PM (#4124670)
The Cody Ross act is getting very old.
   4. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:08 PM (#4124671)
Dan, what worries you about AGon?
   5. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:11 PM (#4124672)
His lack of power since the ASB last season.
   6. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:20 PM (#4124678)
At least Buchholz seems to have found his changeup.
   7. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:33 PM (#4124685)
Why the #### are they promoting boxing during the Red Sox broadcast?
   8. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:34 PM (#4124686)
NO other team's coverage shills for so many random things during their broadcast like NESN does. It's goddamned ridiculous.

What in the world is wrong with Bucholz? The guy is giving up on titanic moon shot after another; it's kind of embarrassing.
   10. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:47 PM (#4124693)
Send Buchholz to AAA. I don't care who the replacement is. He's complete junk right now.
   11. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 02:48 PM (#4124694)
Oh man, Andino time.

I'd still like that extra run they gifted with shitty base running, but 5 runs is a good start.

It would be pretty easy to start looking towards the Rangers series, but Buck needs to keep these guys focused because the Red Sox are still dangerous.

The only people the Red Sox are dangerous for is themselves.

The Orioles have seemed really sloppy this entire series... but it's working for them.
   14. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:02 PM (#4124703)
Buchholz either needs to be on the DL or AAA. I don't know or care if he sucks or is hurt but the Sox have to figure out which it is and make the corresponding move.
   15. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:03 PM (#4124704)
And Adrian Gonzalez continues to suck.
   16. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:04 PM (#4124705)

Good pitching and repeatedly hitting mammoth home runs can has a way of covering up some sloppiness.
   17. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:18 PM (#4124712)
It'll be fun to see how the Red Sox manage to squander this bases loaded situation with no outs.
   18. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:19 PM (#4124713)
Nice pitch #### head. Why not just put it on a ####### tee?
   19. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:19 PM (#4124714)
That put a smile on my face.
   20. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:21 PM (#4124717)
Apparently Middlebrooks hasn't yet been tainted by the Red Sox art of the squander.
   21. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:21 PM (#4124718)
Wow that pitch looks even worse on the replay. Kudos to the rookie for capitalizing but yikes.
   22. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:25 PM (#4124720)
The A's are lighting up Matt Moore. 8 runs allowed in 4.2 innings.
   23. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 03:32 PM (#4124725)
And Adrian shows off his not even to the warning track power.
   24. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:27 PM (#4124745)
Adrian Gonzalez today: -.210 WPA. Clay Buchholz: -.226 WPA.

Gonzalez has hurt them about as much as a 5 run 3.2 inning performance from the starting pitcher. Good job, guy.
   25. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:34 PM (#4124748)
Salty just needs to go away.
   26. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:44 PM (#4124749)
Man, it's a shame Johnson didn't quite square up that eephus.
   27. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:45 PM (#4124750)
Ejesus just throw something. It will either be bal four or a liner to the gap so at least lose quickly.
   28. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:50 PM (#4124754)
If
   29. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:51 PM (#4124755)
I thought Jones was going to catch that.
   30. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:53 PM (#4124756)
What's with the off-center angle from NESN today?
   31. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:53 PM (#4124757)
Jones body language makes me me think he thought he was going to catch too. It's a great ballpark in some respects but it only takes a few games for me to tire of some of its sillier features.
   32. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 04:59 PM (#4124759)
What's with the off-center angle from NESN today?

Day game so they can't be direct in center?
   33. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:13 PM (#4124762)
Inept.
   34. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:14 PM (#4124763)
Wow with the itty bitty Oriole killer on deck. Thanks Bobby.
   35. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:23 PM (#4124765)
Brilliant move to replace Ortiz with a PR. Now we have the heart of the order coming up: Pedroia, Gonzalez and Darnell? Ugh. Kill me now.
   36. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:25 PM (#4124767)
I don't have a problem with that PR, gotta get that run in or Ortiz isn't batting again.
   37. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:25 PM (#4124768)
Gregg = surrender. I guess Buck just wants to get back to Baltimore and get ready for the Rangers.
   38. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:25 PM (#4124769)
I love Pedroia's outfield grass power in this game.
   39. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:25 PM (#4124770)
Fact is if the inning plays out, the Sox don't tie the game. Ortiz wouldn't have made third on the grounder to be able to score on the sac fly.
   40. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:26 PM (#4124771)
Pedroia pops up the 3-1 pitch delivered on a tee. Sigh.

And Gonzalez grounds into the shift. Again.
   41. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:26 PM (#4124772)
Here comes Darnell! Look out Orioles fans! He's our secret weapon!
   42. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:28 PM (#4124773)
How can you complain about McDonald batting here when the game is over with the Red Sox not scoring the tying run if he hadn't pinch run?
   43. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:29 PM (#4124777)
How can you complain about McDonald batting here when the game is over with the Red Sox not scoring the tying run if he hadn't pinch run?

Sorry. Didn't see the play. That's two days in a row I didn't see the key play. :)
   44. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:30 PM (#4124778)
So Adrian Gonzalez is now a $23M version of Casey Kotchman?
   45. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:32 PM (#4124779)
So Adrian Gonzalez is now a $23M version of Casey Kotchman?

Not fair. This is just a slump. Barring an injury he'll be the $23MM version of himself by the end of the season.
   46. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:38 PM (#4124784)
He has what, 11 home runs in his ~450 PA since the ASG last year?
   47. Swedish Chef Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:38 PM (#4124785)
The only thing worse than bunting the guy to second is failing at it.
   48. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:44 PM (#4124788)
I thought Ross went.
   49. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:48 PM (#4124790)

I thought Ross went.

I'm still not sure what the actual rule is, but thats usually called a strike. Inconsistent umpires are par for the course. The home plate umpire has been pretty bad, but I can't even get worked up about it since he's probably better than average.
   50. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:49 PM (#4124791)
Send him back to Pawtucket, are you ####### kidding me? First week in the Majors and he's watching like he's Manny ####### Ramirez?
   51. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:49 PM (#4124792)
What the ####, Middlebrooks?
   52. RB in NYC (Now Semi-Retired from BBTF) Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:50 PM (#4124793)
he's watching like he's Manny ####### Ramirez?
Funnily enough, that's exactly what he was watching like, but not in the sense you mean.
   53. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:51 PM (#4124794)
I don't think he was admiring his hit as much as he thought it was foul.

Still pretty bad.
   54. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:52 PM (#4124795)
Yeah he thought it was foul, he didn't think it was a home run. Still ####### stupid.
   55. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:53 PM (#4124797)
It's amazing, when this team stops scoring they are just done.
   56. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:53 PM (#4124798)
2 scoreless from Kevin Gregg? Sorry BoSox fans, the gods must be smiling on the Orioles today.
   57. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:54 PM (#4124800)
The why doesn't matter to me. It drives me insane when guys stand there and watch. Modest effort keeps you jogging and making second.
   58. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 05:56 PM (#4124802)
It's amazing, when this team stops scoring they are just done.

Yes. It's the same thing as last year's team. They just have no fight to rally late in games. If they don't score early or in the middle innings, they won't score.
   59. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:05 PM (#4124804)
I really wish I understood standard deviation better. I think there is a good study to be done on how offenses do or do not bunch up their runs.
   60. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:06 PM (#4124805)
Its like watching my little league team, if you throw strikes consistently 2/3rds of the offense has no chance.
   61. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:08 PM (#4124806)
So will Adrian ground out to 2B or to the shifted over SS?
   62. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:09 PM (#4124807)
Oooh, first pitch popup to the SS. Way to change it up, Adrian.
   63. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:13 PM (#4124809)
How will they squander this lead off base runner?
   64. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:14 PM (#4124810)
Rich Hill gives me hope.
   65. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:19 PM (#4124812)
Hill is actually a good reliever now. Of course now that I said it, Reynolds will probably take him deep.
   66. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4124814)
They're letting Mark Reynolds steal bases now?
   67. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:25 PM (#4124816)
It is an indictment of this team that the Orioles have done everything to give us this game and we can't take it.
   68. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:28 PM (#4124817)
I hate bunting but I have no faith that swinging away is going to work either.
   69. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:29 PM (#4124819)
Lets make that work.
   70. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:30 PM (#4124820)
I like this matchup for Saltalamacchia.
   71. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:34 PM (#4124821)
I thought that was gonna be a homer. Sigh.
   72. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:35 PM (#4124822)
If this game goes to the 15th what do the Sox do? Hill can't go more than two innings I assume and presumably Atchison and Mortensen are not available.
   73. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:37 PM (#4124823)
You wouldn't think that a team with a 13 man pitching staff would have that issue Jose, but you're probably right.
   74. RB in NYC (Now Semi-Retired from BBTF) Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:40 PM (#4124825)

One of those assumptions/presumptions is about to be proven wrong, I suspect.
   75. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:44 PM (#4124826)
Time for the 14th inning stretch.
   76. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:44 PM (#4124827)
Do they play God Bless America again during the 14th inning stretch? I suspect not.
   77. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:45 PM (#4124828)
Well we can't hit Johnson worth a damn so we wil find out.
   78. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:45 PM (#4124829)
O's are running out of pitchers too. They've been saving Johnson for a save situation and I guess he could go 2 innings. After that it's starting pitchers.
   79. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:46 PM (#4124831)
If we go to Bard I wonder if Beckett could make the start Tuesday.
   80. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:48 PM (#4124832)
Well at least Byrd saw 7 pitches.

   81. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:49 PM (#4124833)
Crap and I just realized the Os don't have an off day for 18 days. They'll need some fresh arms from AAA no matter what.
   82. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:49 PM (#4124834)
I'm sure it's as annoying as #### to keep hitting into the DPs but at least the Orioles get base runners. We can't do a damned thing.
   83. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:50 PM (#4124835)
Red Sox have the same issue.
   84. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:50 PM (#4124836)
That time of year, Sox started twenty in a rowmfriday night.
   85. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:50 PM (#4124837)
I suspect all this bullpen work is going to punch Melancon's ticket back to Boston.
   86. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:50 PM (#4124838)
I'm sure it's as annoying as #### to keep hitting into the DPs but at least the Orioles get base runners. We can't do a damned thing.

I'm pretty sure the GIDP's are worse, but I'm pretty sure I'm biased.
   87. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:51 PM (#4124839)
I want Pedroia to walk and Gomzalez to pop up just so Dan's brain explodes.
   88. Dale Sams Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:51 PM (#4124840)

Let Beckett throw an inning and still make his start...if he's not injured.
   89. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:52 PM (#4124841)
#### this team.
   90. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:52 PM (#4124842)

Don't be ridiculous. He'll obviously ground out.
   91. Dale Sams Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:53 PM (#4124843)
How many called Ks is that?
   92. RB in NYC (Now Semi-Retired from BBTF) Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:54 PM (#4124844)
Hill only at 27 pitches, he must be able to go 3
   93. Dale Sams Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:55 PM (#4124845)
Middlebrook pitched in high school
   94. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:57 PM (#4124846)
Hooray, another leadoff walk. No way that'll burn them, right?
   95. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 06, 2012 at 06:58 PM (#4124848)
Quite a game.
   96. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 06, 2012 at 07:01 PM (#4124850)
Another freakin' dp!
   97. DKDC Posted: May 06, 2012 at 07:02 PM (#4124852)
That's got to be a tucking record for extra innings squander.
   98. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: May 06, 2012 at 07:03 PM (#4124854)
Wieters is awesome.
   99. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 07:03 PM (#4124855)
Atchison is not a good pitcher against LHH.
   100. Dan Posted: May 06, 2012 at 07:04 PM (#4124856)
Davis is going yard here - book it.
