Man, this Clevenger guy, it's good to have him back.

I had been advocating making him the starter before his injury. I was flabbergasted when I looked the teams records when I open this thread and saw the Padres are now then the Cubs. I didn't think that was possible.

The team records at the top of this page are wrong - they don't include yesterday's game. I guess the Primer Chimp is hung over again.

In 30 career PAs, Clevenger now has 3 more WAR than Koyie Hill does in >1000 PAs.

Geez, Dempster's awful today.

Yeah, but both of us have 2 WAR over him, and we have 0 PA.

Hey, Castro just took a walk. Too bad Wrigley doesn't have fireworks to shoot off.
   9. SteveM. Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:05 PM (#4143288)
Castro took a walk! I thought deserved an exclamation point.
   10. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:15 PM (#4143300)
I wonder how long they're sticking with Bass.

Oh wait, there he goes.
   11. SteveM. Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:17 PM (#4143302)
Castro and Soriano walk in the same inning. We should check the Mayan Calendar if this rare phenomenon was predicted.
   12. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:19 PM (#4143310)
It's at least the second time it's happened this year, actually. They did it back-to-back in the 8th inning of this game.
   13. SteveM. Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:22 PM (#4143316)
Did Bud Black really need to bring in a lefty in the 5th inning? He is going to burn through that bullpen today.
   14. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:25 PM (#4143321)
You know, Barney doesn't take a ton of walks, either. This has been quite the inning.

Sucks to leave the bases loaded, but at least they're back in this game.
   15. SteveM. Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:34 PM (#4143333)
The Cubs will miss Padres pitching-it cures what ails you.
   16. SteveM. Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:50 PM (#4143355)
This is the Carlos Marmol we all know and loath.
   17. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 04:57 PM (#4143362)
Ha ha, the Marmol that puts a couple guys on base and then gets out of it is actually the good Marmol.

I love that Len knows what a LOOGY is.
   19. SteveM. Posted: May 30, 2012 at 05:28 PM (#4143381)
That run was due to pure speed.
   20. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 05:31 PM (#4143384)
Yeah, that was fun. If Campana and Castro could get on base more often they'd be a hell of a 1-2 punch at the top of a batting order.
   21. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 05:35 PM (#4143386)
Nice double play - all three guys did made a good play on that one.
   22. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 05:52 PM (#4143392)
Holy freaking cow! Darwin Barney!
   23. SteveM. Posted: May 30, 2012 at 05:52 PM (#4143393)
That might be the most unlikely scenario for a Cub win. A Darwin Barney homerun with the wind blowing in.
   24. Brian C Posted: May 30, 2012 at 05:53 PM (#4143394)
Even Barney looks shocked! Although even if it had fallen in the run probably scores, since it was in the gap.

Great game. It almost made me forget it was between the two worst teams in baseball.
