   1. Chris in Wicker Park Posted: May 23, 2006 at 10:54 PM (#2033590)
Where is everyone?
   2. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 10:56 PM (#2033596)
So the word is that the Mets will start either Oliver or Gonzalez on Thursday. I don't think much of Oliver, but it would make sense to give him a start against a lefty-laden lineup like the Phillies. And of course, it would keep Mr. Gonzalez away, which is always a good thing.
   3. Old Matt Posted: May 23, 2006 at 10:58 PM (#2033597)
So Soler is going tomorrow night?
   4. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:03 PM (#2033600)
Matt, yes.
   5. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:04 PM (#2033603)
My first chat in a while! And it's a Trachsel start. Could be a long 'un.
   6. Old Matt Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:07 PM (#2033607)
Not sure if anyone caught this, but it is of definite importance:

13. Pedro Beato, rhp, St. Petersburg (Fla.) JC
The Mets don't have a first-round pick, but they have a first-round talent under their control. Everyone expects them to sign the 17th-round 2005 draft-and-follow.
   7. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:11 PM (#2033616)
Pedro Beato

That is just an awful name for a pitcher for the Mets to sign. I don't like the karma of that at all. Call me superstitious if you like, but that just gave me a chill.
   8. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:13 PM (#2033620)
Trachsel seems to have a good curve working tonight.
   9. Old Matt Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:14 PM (#2033624)
What's up with Nady...Chavez is playing?
   10. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:16 PM (#2033626)
They said Nady has a little stiffness in his back; late scratch.
   11. Chris in Wicker Park Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:17 PM (#2033628)
This is not going well.
   12. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:17 PM (#2033630)
Well, this game is not off to a good start.
   13. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:18 PM (#2033633)
Oh, this is going well. Frigging Trachsel. Meatballs getting the plate to both Utley and Burrell.
   14. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:18 PM (#2033634)
Looking at the injury report for this game...Sal Fasano injured his testicles? Uh, ouch.
   15. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:18 PM (#2033636)
Trachsel cannot be our 3rd starter.
   16. Free Rob Base Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:19 PM (#2033638)
This could be a bad series.
   17. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:21 PM (#2033644)
Trachsel cannot be our 3rd starter.

He could be. If Sid Fernandez and Rick Augilera (or their equivalents) were # 4 and # 5.
   18. Banta Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:21 PM (#2033645)
Come on, Trachsel! I miss ten minutes of the game and this is what happens?
   19. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:21 PM (#2033646)
Come on Trax, you have to get Bell.
   20. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:22 PM (#2033648)
Sal Fasano has been replaced as backup catcher by a guy named Chris Coste, a 33 year old rookie out of Concordia College, making him the first MLBer ever to go to college in North Dakota!!!!!! (and one of 5 North Dakotans currently in the majors)

Fasano got hit in the groin with a foul tip. I don't think he's on the DL though. Coste takes the place on the roster of TBAG a.k.a. the bad Alex Gonzalez, who retired. I'm glad to see him go, although I wish he could have stuck around long enough for that nickname to become established.
   21. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:25 PM (#2033657)
At this rate, Oliver will come in during the 4th or 5th inning, and Gonzalez will be the starter on Thursday. Sigh.
   22. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:25 PM (#2033658)
Terrible inning. Bad pitches, bad locations, balls hit hard. Ugh. Two well-deserved runs.
   23. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:26 PM (#2033659)
David Bell is not very good.
   24. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:26 PM (#2033660)
25 pitches, not good.
   25. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:28 PM (#2033665)
All Trachsel has to do tonight is keep us in it. I think the Mets offense can pound Floyd tonight.
   26. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:28 PM (#2033666)
At this rate, Oliver will come in during the 4th or 5th inning, and Gonzalez will be the starter on Thursday. Sigh.

Never fear, you have Jeriome Robertson stashed at Norfolk ready for an emergency start.
   27. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#2033667)
Wait, Fasano is actually playing? Well, I'm an idiot.

Ruiz and Coste must be really unpromising if a groin-bruised Sal Fasano is the Phils' best option.
   28. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:31 PM (#2033671)
Great AB by Lo Duca.
   29. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:32 PM (#2033673)
Nice AB, LoDuca!
   30. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:32 PM (#2033674)
All Trachsel has to do tonight is keep us in it.

That's all, eh? Unfortunately, he showed exactly zero signs of being able to do this in the first inning.
   31. Free Rob Base Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:32 PM (#2033676)
Good ab do luca.
   32. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:32 PM (#2033677)
Is Sal Fasano the ugliest man in baseball?
   33. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:32 PM (#2033679)
Phillies have their all-star lineup on the field tonight -- if we lose this one it'll be a bad sign.
   34. Sam M. Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:33 PM (#2033682)
Beltran taking that 1-1 fastball doomed him that AB. What was he looking for???
   35. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:34 PM (#2033683)
You know, Loduca has a pretty good batting eye. And he's a pretty good contact hitter. I'm surprised that he doesn't walk more often.
   36. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:34 PM (#2033685)
That's all, eh? Unfortunately, he showed exactly zero signs of being able to do this in the first inning.

So far we are on pace for Trachsel to give up 18 runs on 27 hits and 9 wild pitches, while Floyd is on pace for 27 strikeouts.
   37. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:35 PM (#2033691)
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH GAMECAST IS YELLING AT ME THE INNING MUST BE OVER
   38. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:36 PM (#2033693)
Is Sal Fasano the ugliest man in baseball?

Sal Fasano looks like your stereotypical Italian from 100 years ago. I'm always surprised to see him without an organ-grinding monkey.
   39. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:37 PM (#2033695)
I forgot to mention that the Phils' all-star lineup does include three automatic outs.
   40. Banta Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:38 PM (#2033696)
You know, Loduca has a pretty good batting eye. And he's a pretty good contact hitter. I'm surprised that he doesn't walk more often.

I had almost this exact thought during his at bat.
   41. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#2033697)
JRoll is going for homers all the time now that the streak is over. It isn't a good thing for him to do.
   42. Banta Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#2033698)
That was better, Trachsel.
   43. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#2033700)
Sal Fasano looks like Cro-Magnon.
   44. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#2033701)
MUCH better inning.
   45. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:42 PM (#2033705)
D-Wright!
   46. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:42 PM (#2033706)
D-WRIGHT!!!
   47. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:42 PM (#2033708)
Two Floyds having disappointing seasons - WHO WILL PREVAIL??
   48. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:42 PM (#2033709)
David! That was quick.
   49. Banta Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:42 PM (#2033710)
Well, I'm glad David decided to start hitting for power again. He was starting to worry me for a minute.
   50. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:44 PM (#2033717)
Great, time for Cohen and Hernandez to talk about how valuable Matsui is.
   51. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:44 PM (#2033718)
Pujols has the prettiest right-handed swing I've ever seen. Wright has the second most aesthetically pleasing swing.
   52. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:45 PM (#2033722)
Floyd will never get to 27 strikeouts at this rate. Too many pitches!
   53. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:45 PM (#2033723)
Someone tell the SNY guys that Matsui can't hit either.
   54. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:45 PM (#2033724)
Matsui's uppercut swing has to be the most ridiculous thing in baseball.
   55. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:46 PM (#2033727)
The difference between Loduca and Matsui is this - I had confidence that Loduca could pull something useful from his swings. I just feel as if Matsui is prolonging his inevitable out.
   56. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:46 PM (#2033729)
Ugh, I forgot Endy Chavez was on the Mets. I never want to see him again.
   57. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:48 PM (#2033735)
I just noticed that Matsui hasn't hit a homer since his first AB.
   58. Old Matt Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:49 PM (#2033737)
Matsui and Endichiro combined make for a horrid bottom.
   59. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:50 PM (#2033742)
The Utley/Matsui mismatch is the biggest gap between positions when comparing Mets/Phils, IMO.
   60. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#2033747)
Utley ####### owns Trax.
   61. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:53 PM (#2033750)
Actually, I think Chavez is a useful player. I think the Mets can live with slipping him starts every once in a while.
   62. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:55 PM (#2033754)
Ack, Trachsel is in a deep hole now.
   63. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:56 PM (#2033757)
Trax has nothing. The Mets can't keep depending on him. He's a 5th starter at best.
   64. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:57 PM (#2033758)
single...single...all right...
   65. Old Matt Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:58 PM (#2033764)
So much for Trachsel stepping up as the third starter in this rotation.
   66. Bob Koo Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:58 PM (#2033765)
This game is about to get ugly in 3...2...1...
   67. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:59 PM (#2033766)
bases loaded...no outs...Howard at the plate...
   68. Raskolnikov Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:59 PM (#2033767)
F*(@#*()#*(. What is Trax doing?
   69. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:59 PM (#2033768)
You gotta be kidding me.
   70. Free Rob Base Posted: May 23, 2006 at 11:59 PM (#2033769)
uh-oh.
   71. Banta Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:00 AM (#2033770)
I'll take this sucky portion of the game to note that I'm pumped about Alay Soler and it's mostly because of his name. I'm happy to be rooting for someone named Alay Soler and I think the rest of you should be too.

Now, with that out of the way, STOP SUCKING TRACHSEL. DAMMIT
   72. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:01 AM (#2033776)
HUGE K.
   73. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:01 AM (#2033780)
ARGH

That's 19 strikeouts in May for Howard.

At least that means he's not going to ground into a DP.
   74. Raskolnikov Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:01 AM (#2033781)
Nice. Let's go "GIDP" Bell.
   75. Old Matt Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:02 AM (#2033784)
TRACHSEL!
   76. Raskolnikov Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:02 AM (#2033786)
Whoops, Victorino's up. My bad.
   77. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:02 AM (#2033787)
Nice play Trax!
   78. Bob Koo Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:03 AM (#2033789)
Do you believe in miracles? YES!
   79. Raskolnikov Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:03 AM (#2033790)
Almost out of it ...
   80. Old Matt Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:03 AM (#2033791)
'Atta boy Steve. We trusted you all along.
   81. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:03 AM (#2033792)
Three outs! Woo!
   82. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:04 AM (#2033794)
ARGH

Here comes automatic out #1.

DONDE ESTA PLACIDO
   83. Sam M. Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:04 AM (#2033796)
Wow. Trachsel just got out of that . . . almost Bannisterish.
   84. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:05 AM (#2033799)
David Bell has ended 2 rallies already...he's going for the record, folks!
   85. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:05 AM (#2033802)
Miracle, indeed. Wow.

Trachsel needs to throw strikes with his fastball. His splitter is useless if he can't do that.
   86. Raskolnikov Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:06 AM (#2033804)
Nice Houdini act by Trax there. I'm so glad that Rowand's face is plastered and out of the lineup.
   87. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:08 AM (#2033809)
TOO MANY PITCHES, FLOYD
   88. Bob Koo Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:08 AM (#2033810)
Trachsel with the best AB from our bottom of the order.
   89. Old Matt Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:09 AM (#2033813)
Phils are having Dollar Dog Day on Memorial Day and Literacy Night the next night.

Guess which one I am attending.
   90. Free Rob Base Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:10 AM (#2033815)
Why does Reyes suck so badly. We have only have three real hitters right now.
   91. Raskolnikov Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2033817)
steveb, I don't know, Loduca's doing a fine job tonight.
   92. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2033818)
Paul LoDuca reached on infield single? I can only assume a David Bell blunder was involved.
   93. Banta Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2033820)
Yikes... that's a horrible throw from Bell.
   94. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:13 AM (#2033823)
Fasano is awesome.
   95. Bob Koo Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:13 AM (#2033824)
Paul LoDuca reached on infield single? I can only assume a David Bell blunder was involved.

Maybe Bell could've charged it better, but it was a really tough play for any third baseman to make, even with Lo Duca running.
   96. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:19 AM (#2033842)
Um...that inning failed to delight.
   97. Banta Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:19 AM (#2033843)
So, who wants to bet that Trachsel gets into trouble again in the fifth?
   98. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:20 AM (#2033846)
I'm willing to bet that David Bell strands 3 more baserunners in the fifth.
   99. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:24 AM (#2033858)
Good job Floyd! You have now become a man.
   100. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 24, 2006 at 12:24 AM (#2033859)
That was a bad swing by Wright.
