Howard scares me every time. It seems like every shot he hits is at least to the warning track.
   2. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:20 PM (#2159312)
I was just going to say the same thing. Anytime Howard doesn't hit a home run is a good outcome for the Mets.
   3. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:22 PM (#2159314)
I didn't realize that Moyer's ERA was still that good.
   4. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:33 PM (#2159331)
Maine has thrown 46 pitches already? Yikes.
   5. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:36 PM (#2159332)
It looks like those starts when Maine was throwing 93-94 was definitely a fast gun. I don't think he's hit that in his last several starts. Still, his fastball is good enough, provided he commands his offspeed stuff, especially his curve. He hasn't really thrown it consistently lately.
   6. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:36 PM (#2159334)
Delgado hit that ball as hard as one can without homering.
   7. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:38 PM (#2159338)
Will Wright ever hit another homer?
   8. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:44 PM (#2159347)
Well, the Mets have looked like what I expected facing Moyer so far.
   9. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:44 PM (#2159349)
Leadoff double stranded. At least they're still in midseason form.
   10. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:50 PM (#2159353)
Maine has hit 93 MPH today.
   11. BTF's left-wing cheering section (formerly_dp) Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:52 PM (#2159355)
what channel is the game on?
   12. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:53 PM (#2159359)
SNY.
   13. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:54 PM (#2159360)
I love waking up and realizing there's a game on TV.
   14. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:56 PM (#2159364)
Jose! Bases loaded for Lo Duca.
   15. Free Rob Base Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:57 PM (#2159365)
Seems like the Mets have won about 10 games this year (wag) just because they have made less stupid defensive plays than the other team.
   16. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 04:58 PM (#2159366)
Maine has hit 93 MPH today.

Well, considered myself pwned then.

Good work, dumbass. Bases loaded for Beltran!
   17. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:00 PM (#2159369)
That was not the AB I was hoping for from Carlos # 1 . . . .
   18. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:01 PM (#2159370)
Delgado!
   19. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:01 PM (#2159371)
But Carlos # 2 does the trick!!!
   20. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:01 PM (#2159372)
Oh, that dumbass was directed at LoDuca, btw. Rereading it, it sort of seemed like I could have been insulting Russlan.

Now let's see if Wright can at least not popout or strikeout.
   21. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:03 PM (#2159374)
Good call by the ump. Wright can't catch a break.
   22. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:04 PM (#2159375)
I think Marsh probably got that right . . . MAYBE it clipped the bare side of the bag, but I doubt it.
   23. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:05 PM (#2159376)
Why are they still talking? How can they overturn this?
   24. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:06 PM (#2159378)
This is very unusual for the umps to be debating this for that long. There's no way I'd overturn this.
   25. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:06 PM (#2159379)
What a gift right there.
   26. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:06 PM (#2159380)
What the hell?
   27. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:06 PM (#2159381)
A break for David!

And Manuel is gonna flip out.
   28. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:07 PM (#2159382)
I can't blame Manuel for being ticked off.
   29. Free Rob Base Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:08 PM (#2159383)
No TV. Can someone explain.
   30. WillieMays Haze Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:08 PM (#2159384)
I've never seen anything like that happen in a game before. That was weird.
   31. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:08 PM (#2159385)
The one thing it definitely couldn't be was a single. That has to be a double, doesn't it???
   32. WillieMays Haze Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:09 PM (#2159386)
I've been trying to find an official MLB rule book in bookstores lately and I haven't been having any luck. Would've come in handy right now.
   33. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:10 PM (#2159388)
SHAWN GREEN #############!
   34. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:11 PM (#2159390)
Green! The Phillies have to be even more pissed now.
   35. Chris in Wicker Park Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:11 PM (#2159391)
Watching Manuel yell at the umpires is fun, btw. He looks like what my grandfather would have looked like if he had been a manager.
   36. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:13 PM (#2159392)
What an inning.

Steveb: Wright hit a bouncer right down the 3B line. It took a strange carom left, towards (and then off) the tarp. Randy Marsh (3B ump) called it foul immediately, which the replay SEEMED to show was correct, although it was very, very close and you couldn't be sure. It did seem odd that if it didn't hit the bag it would carom in that direction, althought maybe a rock or something could do it, too.

The umps got together after Randolph came out, and apparently the HP ump (the one and only Angel Hernandez) or maybe just Marsh decided they got it wrong originally. They reversed the call, and gave Wright a single. Which really made no sense -- it had to be a double, I think, because Wright clearly would have ended up on second on that ball.
   37. Free Rob Base Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:13 PM (#2159393)
Little help. Anyone? What happened.
   38. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:13 PM (#2159395)
Oh, that dumbass was directed at LoDuca, btw. Rereading it, it sort of seemed like I could have been insulting Russlan.

Don't worry, I didn't think it was directed at me.

<erases Banta's name off "People I have to kill" list>
   39. WillieMays Haze Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:14 PM (#2159396)
I'm gonna say Pat Burrell is the trivia answer.
   40. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:14 PM (#2159397)
I've been impressed with the Jewish Hammer's ability to stay in against LHP.
   41. Free Rob Base Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:14 PM (#2159398)
Thanks Sam. Sorry for being impatient, just very curious.
   42. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:15 PM (#2159400)
Oh, look, Burrell hitting a homerun. That's never happened before.
   43. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:16 PM (#2159401)
Well, that was expected to happen at some point.
   44. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:16 PM (#2159402)
Stupid Pat Burrell.
   45. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:16 PM (#2159403)
No good, John. No good at all.
   46. WillieMays Haze Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:17 PM (#2159405)
When I first saw how many people were at this game I was tempted to just hop in the car and go on over to Shea just to catch a game. But it would take at least an hour to get there and traffic would be a ##### with the tennis going on. Plus I'm kinda lazy.
   47. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:17 PM (#2159406)
My answer is Bonds.
   48. WillieMays Haze Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#2159407)
Wow he was safe.
   49. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#2159408)
Yikes, another call against the Phillies.
   50. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#2159409)
Another break.
   51. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#2159410)
David getting all the calls!
   52. WillieMays Haze Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:19 PM (#2159411)
Great to actually be able to hear what the umpire is saying.
   53. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:19 PM (#2159412)
Somebody must be a Reds' fan on the umpiring crew . . . .
   54. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:22 PM (#2159414)
Chemical engineering?
   55. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:24 PM (#2159416)
Pat Burrell has gotten pretty pathetic out in the field.
   56. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:24 PM (#2159417)
Triple!

Burrell will now be benched for a week.
   57. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:24 PM (#2159419)
Burrell: really, really dumb. But thanks, Pat. 16 triples.
   58. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2159421)
I would have sent him.
   59. AuntBea odeurs de parfum de distance sociale Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:27 PM (#2159422)
Does anyone else think Lo Duca looks like Judd Nelson?
   60. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:27 PM (#2159424)
If LoDuca was really a hitter, he'd have gotten himself into scoring position rather than just driving in Reyes. Harrumph.
   61. Free Rob Base Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:27 PM (#2159425)
Lo Duca has been awesome. Gotta give Minaya credit for that one. I did not like that deal at all. I think Reyes has become my favorite player.
   62. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:29 PM (#2159426)
Reyes is only 12 hits away from 500.
   63. WillieMays Haze Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2159431)
He does look like Judd Nelson actually.
   64. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:36 PM (#2159437)
Now, that's an inning to admire. Pitching with the lead like you mean it and want to keep it. Nice.
   65. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#2159439)
Worst 2-0 swing ever.
   66. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2159441)
Victorino making like Rowand.
   67. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2159444)
Here's an idea for discussion. How about the Mets trade for Pat Burrell this offseason? He is signed for 2y/27m the next 2 seasons. If you could get the Phils to pay about 7-10 million of that, he'd be a nice addition. His defense isn't that bad and for all his warts, he's still posting a .370ish obp. He has a NTC and has said he only wanted to be traded to NYY nad Boston. It looks like the Phillies are down on him right now. You could probably get him at a discount.
   68. J. Cross Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#2159446)
Green showing a little pop there but, man, he's really a skinny dude. Now, I know he's always been skinny but was he always THIS skinny? I don't remember being shocked by his skinniness in the past. Was he on some starvation diet in Arizona until they traded him? Can we start feeding this guy and sending him to the weight room now?
   69. J. Cross Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:46 PM (#2159449)

Pat Burrell for Shawn Green would have them pay almost $6M of that. I'd make that deal.
   70. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:46 PM (#2159451)
Maine is good.
   71. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2159452)
I'd definitely trade for Burrell. Then he wouldn't hit homeruns against us anymore.
   72. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2159453)
He has a NTC and has said he only wanted to be traded to NYY nad Boston.

I forgot to add that those teams don't want him.
   73. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2159455)

I like it. Burrell would hit about 70 homers playing in Shea.
   74. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:50 PM (#2159457)
Shawn Green has a NTC.
   75. J. Cross Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:52 PM (#2159460)
PrOPS has Burrell as being hit unlucky, btw. While he came into the game at .256/.376/.501 his PrOPS was .286/.400/.545.
   76. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:53 PM (#2159463)
I wouldn't want Burrell, to be honest. Unlike Abreu, I actually believe the clubhouse cancer stuff about him. At the very least, he's sure not the positive force that Floyd is. Pass.
   77. J. Cross Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:55 PM (#2159466)
Shawn Green has a NTC.

Well, he's probably a sunk cost anyways.
   78. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#2159467)
Good work from Maine.
   79. J. Cross Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#2159468)
Maybe instead of wheeling a dealing we should just get Green that feeding tube. Is he battling a tape worm?
   80. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2159469)
Good outing from Maine.
   81. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2159473)
OH YEAH!
   82. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2159475)
The Kool-Aid still tastes great.
   83. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#2159479)
I forgot about the Wagner and Burrell beef.
   84. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#2159485)
Beltran rules.
   85. Banta Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#2159486)
Wow, that was the worst strike I've seen called all year.
   86. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:14 PM (#2159487)
Productive out!
   87. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:14 PM (#2159488)
Beltran's excellence gets Wright a sac fly there.
   88. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:16 PM (#2159490)
Fantastic, there's a tropical storm headed for me.
   89. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:19 PM (#2159494)
Lo Duca is terrible. He's lucky there was a good bounce.
   90. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:20 PM (#2159496)
How lucky was that??? Not that #### Mota deserves good breaks.
   91. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:25 PM (#2159498)
Ryan Howard is a beast.
   92. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:25 PM (#2159499)
I hate Howard.
   93. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:27 PM (#2159502)
Ouch. That ball hurts.
   94. Russlan is not Russian Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:28 PM (#2159504)
I don't hate Howard. He was going to beat Beckett up in spring training.
   95. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:28 PM (#2159505)
Mota still filthy.
   96. Free Rob Base Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:30 PM (#2159507)
Ryan Howard is a beast.

fo shizzle
   97. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:32 PM (#2159509)
He was going to beat Beckett up in spring training.

Oh yeah. Ok then, I dislike Howard.
   98. AJMcCringleberry Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:44 PM (#2159518)
That's the game. 8-1 homestand. Magic number 18.
   99. Joshemy Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:44 PM (#2159519)
Put it in the books!
   100. Sam M. Posted: August 28, 2006 at 06:46 PM (#2159521)
Biggest lead of the year: 15.5 games. Amazing.

Magic Number: Straw.
