Both Valentine and Maddon have been doing a pissing match in the media over the past 16 hours...
   2. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4140889)
Not surprising, given how much they both like attention.
   3. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4140896)
Dick Stockton has lost his fastball by but hearing his voice makes me feel like I'm 10 years old nd watching the Sox on WSBK-TV 38 after adjusting the rabbit ears.
   4. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:15 PM (#4140905)
Awfully slow in here this evening.
   5. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:18 PM (#4140910)
Josh Reddick has as many home runs as Ortiz and Gonzalez combined, while playing half his games in Oakland.
   6. Gamingboy Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4140914)
Awfully slow in here this evening.

Are you Boston guys too busy watching the Celtics?
   7. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4140921)
Heh. The play-by-play guy just speculated that Josh Beckett had "mental anguish".
   8. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4140928)
So now that Pujols is hitting home runs every day again, is Gonzalez the most disappoint big contract first baseman?
   9. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4140929)
most disappointing*
   10. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4140938)
What a ####### retarded bunt.
   11. Jim Wisinski Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4140939)
I'd think that Teixeira has him beat still even with two home runs today.
   12. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4140942)
Boy I'm glad you bunted there, Bobby.
   13. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:44 PM (#4140943)
Teixeira leads AGon 104 to 96 in wRC+.
   14. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4140947)
Of course that's right at the SS.
   15. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:58 PM (#4140948)
Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhh!!!!
   16. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:58 PM (#4140949)
Does Royster know anything at all about the arms of outfielders in this league?
   17. Jim Wisinski Posted: May 26, 2012 at 08:59 PM (#4140950)
Price's command blows for the most part tonight.

Don't run on the BJ! Pedroia would have had a better chance of beating the throw if he didn't run 25 feet from the line as he came around though.
   18. Jim Wisinski Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:00 PM (#4140952)
Love the pause there where Stockton had to wait for someone to tell him over his headset how to pronounce Lin's name.
   19. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:00 PM (#4140953)
There is no reason that Lin is running for Gonzalez which I will like.
   20. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4140954)
Weird plays are allowed to go in the Red Sox favor? Who knew?
   21. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4140955)
Lead! I'll take it.

No hesitation on Lin going to third.
   22. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:02 PM (#4140956)
At least if he ran for Gonzalez he'd be able to take over in RF defensively, but instead our no-hit, best defensive OF will be the DH going forward.
   23. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4140958)
I'm pretty sure he did run for Gonzalez; Ortiz was ahead of him.
   24. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:05 PM (#4140959)
Was gameday wrong? It said that Lin ran for Ortiz, not Gonzalez.
   25. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:06 PM (#4140960)
Is that Sean McDonough as the sportscaster in the ad for Crooked Arrows?

If so, it's good to see him returning to the movies - it's been a long lay-off since Mr. Baseball. :)
   26. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4140961)
Welp, that settles who Lin ran for.
   27. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4140962)
Strong comeback after they score you a run, Josh. Will be lucky to get out of this inning down 2-1.
   28. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4140963)
Thanks bunches, Josh.
   29. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4140964)
Holy ####. You can't ####### throw home on that and let the runner on first take 2nd. This team is just stupid.
   30. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4140965)
That's horseshit baseball by Nava right there.
   31. Gamingboy Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4140966)
This is a good game that is being decided by poor decisions. How do you try to be a hero there?
   32. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4140967)
Strong comeback after they score you a run, Josh. Will be lucky to get out of this inning down 2-1.

So predictable.
   33. Gamingboy Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4140968)
Luke Scott. Of course it would be Luke Scott.
   34. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4140969)
(kicks something)
   35. Jim Wisinski Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4140970)
Yes Dick, that was likely a straight steal by Luke Scott. Sure.
   36. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4140971)
I hate this inning.
   37. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4140972)
This inning is a perfect microcosm of this team and this season.
   38. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4140983)
Time to do something awesome, Papi.
   39. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4140984)
Too bad Byrd failed at bunting.
   40. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4140995)
Don't be hurt, Lin... Don't be hurt...
   41. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4140998)
Yeah, if Lin got hurt he wouldn't start in CF over Byrd since he gets on base and plays better defense. Oh, wait.
   42. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4141004)
Man, as much as we've been bagging on NESN, they'd have shown a replay of that pitch Youk struck out on.

PODSEDNIK? REALLY?
   43. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4141011)
I mean, if you're just going to have Lin be a defensive replacement for an inning or two at a time, why is he even in the majors, rather than getting at-bats in AAA?
   44. Jim Wisinski Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4141012)
I find the decision to pinch-run for Gonzalez with Lin (as the trail runner) only to pinch-hit for him with a poor hitter and mediocre fielder later to be....puzzling.
   45. Gamingboy Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4141015)
Dick Stockton just doesn't sound like he used to. Maybe it's the distortion of the old video.
   46. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4141016)
It's not puzzling Jim, I appreciate the gentleness but say what it is, it's ####### stupid.
   47. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4141017)
Attempted positivity: Matsuzaka seems to have been pretty good in Pawtucket today - 5 IP, 1 R, 56 pitches, 38 for strikes.
   48. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4141018)
At this point the questions for the Sox are

Will they reach .500

Will they finish last

   49. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 09:58 PM (#4141021)
The fact that Bobby V thinks Podsednik is a centerfielder is incredibly depressing.
   50. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4141026)
I mean, does Valentine look at any statistics or scouting reports at all? Sometimes I wonder.
   51. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4141037)
Why does Fox not use the straight overhead camera angle?
   52. Jim Wisinski Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4141039)
Valentine could probably come up with some reasoning to sort of explain the pinch-running for Gonzalez (I'd still think it's stupid but he could at least fake having a logical reason). The defensive changes last inning though just defy any sense or explanation though. Lin is the guy you want as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement but he's not good enough to play CF while Podsednik coming into the game moves Byrd to right? How the hell does that make any sense whatsover? If Podsednik has the speed and defense to play CF while also being the preferred hitter then why the #### wouldn't he run for Gonzalez?

I'm a Rays fan and I'm actually getting pissed off thinking about that because it's so damned stupid.
   53. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:14 PM (#4141040)
Yeah, give away an out after the leadoff walk from a wild pitcher when you have 3 left. Why not?
   54. Lassus Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:14 PM (#4141041)
Sac bunts make me sad.
   55. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:14 PM (#4141042)
Imagine how Red Sox fans feel?
   56. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4141044)
I'm a Rays fan and I'm actually getting pissed off thinking about that because it's so damned stupid.

Valentine has managed like this all year. He has no clue what he's doing.

Holy ####!!!
   57. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4141045)
SALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never in any doubt.
   58. Jim Wisinski Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4141046)
Well that sucks. Had to happen eventually though.
   59. Lassus Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4141047)
Well.....

I didn't expect that.
   60. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4141048)
SALTY!!!,!,!,
   61. Rafael Bellylard: The Grinch of Orlando. Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4141049)
I'm sure the sac bunt sets that up, somehow.

   62. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4141050)
Sac bunts make me sad.

Valentine wasn't at all like this with the Mets, right? He seems like a completely different guy to me, but I didn't watch Valentine's Mets teams much personally, since that was pre MLB.tv and all.
   63. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4141051)
Sure. If Punto doesn't sac bunt, he grounds into a double play.

...

Wait, Valentine pinch-hit someone just to sac bunt? Not quite what-he-did-with-Lin bizarre, but...

Screw it, back at .500 with an awesome game. Hopefully I get to see them break through tomorrow.
   64. Dan Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:19 PM (#4141054)
Hopefully I get to see them break through tomorrow.

Don't hold your breath.
   65. Jay Seaver Posted: May 26, 2012 at 10:22 PM (#4141057)
Hey, I know it's a long shot with Buchholz vs... well, whoever. But that's the game I've got tickets for.
