I only just now found out that mlb.com has radio overlay for the videos....that just made half the games in mlb bearable.

Unfortunately you need to use NexDef.

Good morning

I'm doing a Beastie Boys tribute night this week at my hotel- I've had so much going over so many songs that made growing up so much fun.

Any suggestions?

I've been mixing their instrumentals with the early hardcore stuff, with the classics obviously and the hundreds of great over looked tracks of theirs - planning on going for 3 hours - feel free to come , night kicks of at 10 pm Friday - or should I say 8 AM Friday morning for those on the East Coast...

Holy #### - it does? For some masochistic reason I used the Royals TV guys yesterday - idiot

That should be "I've had so much fun going over so many songs that made growing up so cool."

You don't fire a high-profile, highly paid baseball manager 29 games into his tenure for being a small part of the problem with a team with several larger, much more obvious problems. If you can't see that you're just not being rational.

You're right - it's hard not to have the shits right now at him but what's scary is the larger problems could be really hard to solve.

I fear for this team - hopefully they can get their head above water by early June.
   7. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4127755)
Very nice to see Middlebrooks back in there.
   8. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:22 PM (#4127756)
NESN's production has been noticeably worse so far this year than in years past.
   9. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4127757)
"Country Breakfast" is a great name for Billy Butler.
   10. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4127758)
Lester already getting squeezed against Butler. Should've been a K on the 1-2 pitch.
   11. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4127761)
And the umpire turns a K into a walk, costing Lester probably at least 5 pitches and possibly some runs.

Lester's velocity looks good so far today.
   12. Dale Sams Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4127762)
Bobby V:" Worry about the things you can control"

The team can stop playing Byrd. And they can play Sweeney full-time over Byrd or MacDime regardless of splits.
   13. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4127763)
Yeah, Lester's got a good fastball going. They're making him throw a lot of pitches, though. Even Francouer.
   14. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4127764)
Giovatella looks like he's about 12.
   15. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4127765)
Sigh.
   16. Dale Sams Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4127766)
You'll note that I posted that before the miscue
   17. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4127767)
I reiterate from last night:

Speaking of Marlon Byrd, he's really terrible and we should stop running him out there.
   18. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4127768)
I would pull Byrd from this game right now if I were BV. This team needs some goddamned accountability.
   19. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4127769)
That should never happen to a major league CF.
   20. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4127770)
The Byrd trade is the Gagne trade redux. We gave up a marginally useful piece for a player with negative value.
   21. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4127771)
In all seriousness I wonder if Byrd needs glasses. I got glasses when I was 12 after taking a fastball to the face and the kid from Chelmsford didn't throw as hard as Aceves.
   22. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4127773)
You know, there's stuff outside of his control going on but Lester has to get it done. Yeah the 1-2 pitch was a strike but he still has to put away Butler or not give up a sharp grounder or a hard line drive to the Next two batters.
   23. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4127775)
What the hell?
   24. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4127777)
Our defensive outfield is so clownshoes.
   25. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4127778)
The Byrd trade is the Gagne trade redux. We gave up a marginally useful piece for a player with negative value.

It's also a good comparison because the Red Sox keep running him out there even though he's clearly shown he sucks.

I don't even know what that play was.
   26. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4127779)
?
   27. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4127780)
I don't think Ross had control of it. Did it hit the wall?
   28. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4127782)
Hard to tell if he had control of it before it hit the wall. Kinda looked like he did.
   29. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4127784)
Lester hasn't made a good pitch since the non strike.
   30. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4127785)
Well, maybe not. Dammit.
   31. Mattbert Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4127787)
The MLB Network guys are saying there's a report that Beckett was seen playing golf with Buchholz during the time he was having that start pushed back.
   32. Dale Sams Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:46 PM (#4127790)
Non-news IMO. Whether he was actually injured, the brass wanted to give Cook a strike. Maybe Beckett's rocket scientist wife mathmeticlly determined that Salty would get Beckett spiked.
   33. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4127791)
Yeah I read aboutt hat earlier today, Mattbert.

I have a terrible feeling that the offense is just going to lay down and get shut out by Bruce Chen after the first inning nut punches.
   34. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4127793)
I think the Beckett start thing was just precautionary - he wasn't feeling much worse than usual. I'm sure it will become a thing, though.
   35. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4127794)
It is just incredible that Bruce Chen is still pitching in the bigs in 2012.
   36. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4127795)
If he truly had a sore oblique (that was the reported injury, right?), swinging a golf club seems like an incredibly awful idea.
   37. Mattbert Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4127797)
After what happened last year, it's a terrible idea whether he was actually sore or not.
   38. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:52 PM (#4127798)
Lester continues to lack a putaway pitch when he gets hitters to 2 strikes. Disappointing.
   39. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4127799)
What's happened to Lester? He's really not pitching well. I can't figure out why that is, his velocity is good and he seems to have movement but he doesn't dominate hitters like he did.
   40. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4127807)
Where the hell was Frenchy on that? He just let Butler go after it waddling along.
   41. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:05 PM (#4127808)
Need. Papijack. Now.
   42. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4127809)
What the ####, 2-0 change up in the dirt.
   43. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4127811)
Atta boy Adrian!
   44. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4127812)
Gonzalez! Actually hit a line drive hard in a big situation!
   45. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4127813)
woooooo!
   46. Mattbert Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4127819)
Hooray for not sucking!
   47. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:15 PM (#4127822)
Lester just never follows us scoring by slamming the door it feels like.
   48. PreservedFish Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4127826)
I am at this game. Rooting for something exciting to happen.
   49. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4127827)
Hooray for our one competent outfielder!
   50. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4127828)
Good seats?
   51. Mattbert Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4127831)
71 pitches through 3 does not bode real sweet...
   52. PreservedFish Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4127833)
I'm coasting between different unushured sections. Lots of drunk college age kids here.
   53. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4127846)
Can you get close enough to pull Lester's head out of his ass?
   54. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4127848)
Just tuned back in - what'd I miss? More great Byrd heroics?
   55. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4127849)
How the hell was that a double?
   56. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4127855)
Squeezed against Butler again.
   57. PreservedFish Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4127856)
I'm within battery distance of Marlon Byrd.
   58. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4127857)
It was a double because Byrd took too long to field it, made a decent but not great thrwo, and Aviles failed to catch it.
   59. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4127858)
Some beautiful pitched there against Butler - Sox really need Lester to keep that up
   60. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4127859)
Very glad to see Lester hitting 95 on the gun again.
   61. PreservedFish Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4127861)
And I might be able to pour a beer on the reliever of your choice.
   62. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4127864)
Our outfielders drop routine flyballs and theirs catch that. Sigh.
   63. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4127865)
Didn't Steinbrenner try to charge Winfield for ripping the padding like that?

PF - Matt Albers.
   64. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4127866)
I'm within battery distance of Marlon Byrd.

Do it - and give them my name !!

Opposite field Gonzo - he's coming around again
   65. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:51 PM (#4127867)
Not that he's been swinging great but Gonzo has four multi-hit games in the last five.
   66. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:53 PM (#4127870)
Not that he's been swinging great but Gonzo has four multi-hit games in the last five.

I haven't seen that many of his at bats for some reason - but I remember when he starts going the opposite way he looks heaps better sooner rather later
   67. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4127872)
Middlebrooks has a pretty strong arm.
   68. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4127873)
I like this WMB guy
   69. Dale Sams Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4127876)

I thought the same thing last year at Kauffman with Crawford...except it was a mountain dew bottle.
   70. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4127877)
He's pickin it over there.
   71. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4127878)
Lester done or does he try to squeeze one more out of him? I don't think I'd ##### either way, try and steal an inning against 7-8-9.
   72. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:58 PM (#4127879)
I'm sure Bobby V brings him out again. I'd probably leave him in unless someone gets on.
   73. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4127880)
I stand corrected! He must be chastened from the Beckett business.
   74. PreservedFish Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4127881)
Behind the fountains I can race a phantom Bo Jackson ... Or Billy Butler.
   75. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4127882)
Looks like he is out
   76. Darren Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4127884)
What happened on the play in the first?

Lester continues to lack a putaway pitch when he gets hitters to 2 strikes. Disappointing.

It seems like every Red Sox pitcher has this problem. It seems that getting ahead 0-2 or 1-2 is very little advantage for them. They start nibbling, the batter fouls some stuff off, and then ball four or cookie that gets hammered.

On an unrelated note, A ####### BOOTH TOUR? Do they know how annoying this #### is?
   77. PreservedFish Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4127886)
Multiple children have beat Butler.
   78. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4127890)
What happened on the play in the first?

First Marlon Byrd clanked a line drive right at him by overrunning in on it, then closing his glove early and having it literally bounce off of his glove. That should've been the third out.

Then Ross dropped a flyball in left costing 2 more runs.
   79. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4127893)
Which play Darren? Butler should have been rung up on a 1-2 pitch and ultimately reached. Then Byrd misplayed a liner right at him for an error that brought in a run. It was the classic "liner at the bill of his cap" that outfielders hate but it has to be caught. Then on a drive to left center Ross seemed to have made a running catch but he didn't control it and it popped out of his glove and hit the wall for a two run double.
   80. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4127894)
And with the announcement of a booth tour , I bid goodbye.

Work is calling - time to put up the prices as revenge for the Sox play this year anyway
   81. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:07 PM (#4127896)
Rays have runners on 2nd and 3rd against Robertson in the 9th with Yankees up 1-0.
   82. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4127897)
Bases loaded now in NY after a 4 pitch walk to Zobrist.
   83. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:09 PM (#4127899)
The booth is even more boring than I could have imagined.
   84. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4127901)
And Pena strikes out without even swinging the bat.
   85. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:14 PM (#4127902)
Rays tie the game on a sac fly by Upton. Let the NYY closer controversy begin!
   86. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4127905)
Joyce takes Robertson deep. 4-1 Rays.
   87. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4127911)
Another terrible read from Byrd on that flyball.
   88. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:31 PM (#4127912)
BABIP doesn't love the Red Sox.
   89. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:32 PM (#4127913)
Adrian still has no clue.
   90. PreservedFish Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:35 PM (#4127915)
BroxtOn is large.
   91. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:38 PM (#4127917)
Ross, Salty, and Byrd due up to face Broxton in the 9th. Ugh.
   92. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:40 PM (#4127919)
Clearly David Robertson doesn't have the stuff to close.
   93. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:44 PM (#4127921)
He has the stuff. I've always thought they should keep him as a setup guy/relief ace and make a guy like Hughes the closer when RIvera was gone though, simply because of Robertson's shaky control.
   94. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:45 PM (#4127922)
Why didn't the Red Sox sign Broxton instead of giving away Lowrie for Melancon?
   95. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:46 PM (#4127923)
99 MPH from Broxton.
   96. Mattbert Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:49 PM (#4127924)
Robertson is an unusual case. When you strike out multiple batters per inning as often as not and you never give up homers, you can live with a few walks.

Speaking of closers, this would be driving me bonkers if I was a Royals fan. Crow just BREEZED through 4 outs on 9 pitches. Bottom of the Sox order up. Just leave him in there!
   97. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:52 PM (#4127926)
This is a GREAT spot for Punto, send him up to bunt.
   98. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:54 PM (#4127927)
Byrd can't even get hit by a pitch right.
   99. Dan Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:55 PM (#4127928)
That 1-1 pitch looked pretty good.

And it was.
   100. Mattbert Posted: May 09, 2012 at 10:56 PM (#4127929)
CBS has that 1-1 as being right down ####### broadway. Correct?
