Did I hear that correctly? The Mariners are still running Chone Figgins out there?
   2. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:32 PM (#4169869)
As a person on the East Coast, I appreciate these efficient innings from Cook.
   3. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4169870)
Cook getting the sinker working earlier tonight.

It helps that the Mariner offense blows chunks.
   4. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:35 PM (#4169871)
Speaking of blowing chunks, Yankee kid taking CC's spot did so tonight, as did the bullpen. Dwayne Wise was their best pitcher.
   5. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:47 PM (#4169874)
Mercy, Figgins is a bust.
   6. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:49 PM (#4169876)
Put that AB in amber: Aaron Cook actually struck someone out.
   7. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:49 PM (#4169877)
12 pitches to get through that inning, Cook? C'mon!
   8. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:52 PM (#4169878)
Hector Noesi sucks. They really should do something second time through the order.
   9. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:55 PM (#4169881)
Nuts. Papi hit that pretty well, but this place is apparently big.
   10. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:56 PM (#4169882)
Dear Adrian:

Please go on a serious hot streak. This "Saltalamacchia hitting clean-up" thing is messing with my mind.
   11. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:57 PM (#4169883)
It's the inverse of New Yankee Stadium as tricked out joke parks.
   12. plink Posted: June 29, 2012 at 10:58 PM (#4169884)
There's an article on... Fangraphs? today about how the ball just doesn't carry at Safeco. Certainly the last two games have had anecdotal evidence.
   13. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:00 PM (#4169885)
Every shot of John Lackey in the dugout makes me annoyed. I'm not a big one on intangibles, but his absence this year seemed to be a big intangible benefit.

And nervous, even though I know there's no way he'll actually pitch in this game.
   14. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:01 PM (#4169886)
Mouth breathing is bad luck.
   15. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:02 PM (#4169887)
I chirp was out.
   16. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:02 PM (#4169888)
That's Ichiro.
   17. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:05 PM (#4169891)
Five-pitch inning WITH an infield single mixed in.
   18. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:05 PM (#4169892)
Awful close, at least. Not worth arguing, but pretty close.

5 pitches. Get some runs, guys.
   19. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:08 PM (#4169895)
Will Middlebrooks thinks this park is tiny.
   20. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:08 PM (#4169896)
Nice job, Will!
   21. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:09 PM (#4169897)
Cody Ross - not impressed by Middlebrooks.
   22. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:10 PM (#4169898)
Uh, wow.

Like I said, second time through the order.
   23. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:11 PM (#4169899)
BTW, ask Adrian Beltre how hard it is for RHB to hit HRs to that part of the yard.
   24. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:12 PM (#4169900)
To be fair, Beltre wasn't facing the Mariners' pitching at the time.
   25. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:13 PM (#4169901)
Dingers!
   26. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:13 PM (#4169902)
Well, this is not how I saw the Red Sox scoring runs tonight.
   27. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:14 PM (#4169903)
Almost as hard: a Nava LH HR, in any park.
   28. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:15 PM (#4169904)
I take that back, he really does have much more power from that side, doesn't he.
   29. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:19 PM (#4169906)
TWO strikeouts!
   30. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4169907)
There's apparently no reason not to hit the strike zone against the Mariners - best case scenario seems to be an infield hit.
   31. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:22 PM (#4169911)
Cook could have a 75 pitch complete game.
   32. dirk Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:25 PM (#4169913)
43 pitches through 5. that's jon lieberesque.
   33. plink Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:26 PM (#4169914)
This park is tiny!
   34. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:26 PM (#4169915)
Assaultalamacchia!
   35. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:27 PM (#4169916)
Did I mention that Noesi sucks?
   36. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:27 PM (#4169917)
afternoon all
   37. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:28 PM (#4169919)
If Noesi finishes this inning, there's a pretty good chance of Cook only throwing half as many pitches as his opponent through six. That's crazy.
   38. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:29 PM (#4169920)
Never mind.
   39. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:39 PM (#4169924)
The way this is going, what Aviles just did was "setting up the double play".
   40. Jay Seaver Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:43 PM (#4169927)
On a pace for a 78-pitch complete game shutout.
   41. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:43 PM (#4169928)
51 through 6 - it'd be less without the error - wow
   42. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:46 PM (#4169930)
I did not realize Oliver Perez was still in baseball, and yet there he is warming up.
   43. Chip Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:55 PM (#4169935)
This is insane.
   44. dirk Posted: June 29, 2012 at 11:58 PM (#4169936)
apparently all it takes to get mariners out is a 89 mph fastball and a show me curve. babip gods will get their revenge on cook soon.
   45. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:01 AM (#4169939)
Well, having a pretty good infield behind Cook doesn't hurt either. Imagine if they called Iglesias up!
   46. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:03 AM (#4169941)
I can't concentrate on the game anymore, with the news that Major League Baseball might be going to the SCG - holy ####### fuck yeah - I am seriously beside myself here !
   47. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:08 AM (#4169943)
Cook will pitch on Wednesday against the A's, not Friday against the Yankees, right?
   48. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:10 AM (#4169945)
8 innings, 74 pitches. Likely not repeatable, but wow.
   49. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:10 AM (#4169946)
Dustin Pedroia plays baseball very well.
   50. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:13 AM (#4169948)
Will Middlebrooks unslumping.
   51. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:23 AM (#4169951)
Ichiro still looks pretty good in the field.
   52. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:24 AM (#4169953)
Felix turned Pedroia back into teh suck.
   53. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:28 AM (#4169955)
Wow. Nice win, guys.
   54. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:29 AM (#4169956)
Fewest hits in a CG he's ever given up. Fewest pitches in a CG by any pitcher in MLB this year. Yikes.
   55. dirk Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:30 AM (#4169957)
81 pitches. 72 warm up pitches. (8 per inning)
   56. Joel W Posted: June 30, 2012 at 12:54 AM (#4169963)
Wow the Mariners really stink at hitting.
