Well, at least the people who aren't Pedroia made the pitcher work. Is it just me, or is he swinging at a lot of pitches in the dirt of the opposite batter's box these days?
   2. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:38 PM (#4170291)
I watched the Pedroia at bat on the phone and almost threw it - horrible!
   3. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4170292)
Like that AG realized Olivio was coming up and a risky throw was not needed
   4. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:44 PM (#4170294)
I like Jenny Dell more than some, but that big smile while talking about Darnell being designated is kind of weird.
   5. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:46 PM (#4170295)
Was the scouting report on this guy "swing at first fastball up in your eyes"?

Oh well, so much for that.
   6. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:47 PM (#4170296)
Missed the injury to Ramirez - what happened?
   7. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:50 PM (#4170297)
Dunno - he stretched to grab Kalish's hit up the middle, and then the catcher saw something off with his first pitch to Aviles.
   8. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:53 PM (#4170300)
Is there a stat that Remy is more obsessed with than "hitting game streaks?"
   9. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 10:56 PM (#4170301)
I'm guessing that's the stat, out of all the ones that the guys in the truck give him, that he has the most intuitive grasp of, and thus the one he goes to.

It could be worse. For years after he replaced Bob Montgomery on the broadcasts, he seemed to call for a squeeze play every time it was relevant and then some.

Drives me nuts - but I think it is because I am just so sick of him as well.

Figgins is just a complete and utter waste of space - it's insane how bad he is now
   11. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:02 PM (#4170304)
Nice grab Cody Ross!
   12. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:03 PM (#4170305)
Great catch - love seeing Ichiro getting robbed there !
   13. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:11 PM (#4170308)
11 game hitting streak for Gonzo !!! I feel better already
   14. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:35 PM (#4170313)
Semi demi hemi squander.
   15. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:40 PM (#4170315)
Ah, bummer. I was kind of thinking no-hitter.
   16. Chip Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:42 PM (#4170317)
I was thinking, at least we don't have worry about whether he should pull Beckett with a no-no given that he's just off thevDL.
   17. Jay Seaver Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:45 PM (#4170318)
There is that, I suppose, although after last night it's not like I was worried about Beckett getting near any sort of high pitch count.
   18. Dan Posted: June 30, 2012 at 11:56 PM (#4170322)
This feels like the lowest overall scoring series the Red Sox have played in in quite some time. 6 total runs after 23.5 innings?
   19. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:00 AM (#4170325)
(That stuff Q*Bert says when the snake gets him}
   20. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:01 AM (#4170326)
(Same thing, again)
   21. villageidiom Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:02 AM (#4170328)
Is there a stat that Remy is more obsessed with than "hitting game streaks?"
Hitting streaks are to baseball conversation what the weather is to regular conversation. Most of the time it's just filler. If they're trying not to let more than 5 seconds go by without saying anything, it's just as good filler as anything else. Whether they should be trying that is another story, but I usually tune it out.
   22. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:02 AM (#4170329)
What the #### was Aviles doing? It didn't look like Nava called him off, but he peeled off anyway.

And of course Beckett can't bail out his fielders against a guy he totally owned up to this point (0-11).
   23. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:04 AM (#4170331)
Are you ######## for real?
   24. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:06 AM (#4170333)
Lookin' schmaht, Josh.
   25. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:06 AM (#4170335)
So we're going to have to try and salvage a split tomorrow I guess?

It seems like series at Safeco always go poorly even when the Mariners suck ass.
   26. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:07 AM (#4170336)
Beckett didn't know the bases were no longer loaded, but got away with his brain cramp.
   27. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:13 AM (#4170339)
I still want to know WTF went on between Aviles and Nava. That ball should have been caught.
   28. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:16 AM (#4170342)
A bear, not a gerbil?
   29. villageidiom Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:19 AM (#4170344)
Nava was practicing his German. When Aviles asked if Nava had it, Nava said, "Nein!" Aviles thought he said "Mine!" and backed off.

That's all I've got.
   30. villageidiom Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:20 AM (#4170345)
Cody Ross is doing his best to avoid being Darnelled.
   31. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:21 AM (#4170346)
Super duper squander chance!
   32. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:22 AM (#4170347)
Hilarious slide by Ross there.
   33. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:23 AM (#4170348)
I think the goal of that slide was to avoid taking a throw to the face.
   34. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:24 AM (#4170349)
That is the very definition of letting a team back in a game right there.
   35. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:24 AM (#4170350)
Ha! Well that almost makes up for the popup that wasn't caught.
   36. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:25 AM (#4170351)
Seriously, what's with the ####### intentional walks? Why are we intentionally walking a .644 OPS hitter to load the bases with two outs to get to a .595 OPS hitter?
   37. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:26 AM (#4170352)
Yeah I think Remy's right in calling that a wild pitch
   38. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:27 AM (#4170353)
Wasn't the IBB after falling behind in the count? That's a little more defensible I think.
   39. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:30 AM (#4170354)
Pedroia needs to stop sucking right about now. Maybe start with not swinging at balls three feet from the zone.
   40. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:30 AM (#4170355)
That is to say, you should probably compare how Ackley hits after a 2-0 count to Olivo's line against RHP
   41. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:31 AM (#4170356)
I was about to bring up that loading the bases opens up the possibility of walking in a run, but then I remembered it's Olivo we're talking about.
   42. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:32 AM (#4170357)
Goddamnit Pedroia...
   43. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:35 AM (#4170358)
How did Seager not score when that carom got past Ross, anyway? Not that I'm complaining...
   44. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:38 AM (#4170360)
Melançon still makes me want to cry, especially since he was one lucky call away from walking Chone Figgins's desiccated corpse.
   45. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:40 AM (#4170361)
All too predictable.
   46. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:41 AM (#4170363)
Melançon ####### blows. What a dud.
   47. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:46 AM (#4170366)
Well if Valentine was going to test the "fixed" Melancon in a high-lev situation, this was probably the team to do it against. Hopefully he won't see one again any time soon.
   48. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:46 AM (#4170367)
Ball 1 looked pretty good but Salty lost any chance on a call
   49. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:48 AM (#4170368)
Strike four is called ball three... Strike five gets him!
   50. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:51 AM (#4170369)
Stupid huge ballpark.
   51. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:54 AM (#4170370)
Arrrrgh! Adrian, did you forget that you are very slow or something?
   52. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:54 AM (#4170371)
Gonzalez was running in even deeper mud than he normally does.
   53. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 12:58 AM (#4170373)
Derek Jeter doesn't get that.
   54. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:01 AM (#4170374)
Nava thought about diving, but probably better he didn't.
   55. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:02 AM (#4170375)
Nava is kind of incredibly awful on defense.
   56. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:06 AM (#4170376)
This Mariner lineup isvalmost Dodger awful.
   57. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:10 AM (#4170378)
C'mon, Sox. We really don't need bonus west-coast baseball.
   58. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:11 AM (#4170379)
Some BABIP luck!
   59. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:12 AM (#4170380)
Aviles missed a cement mixer on the 1-1.
   60. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:13 AM (#4170381)
####.
   61. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:14 AM (#4170382)
I think that qualified as a squander
   62. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:18 AM (#4170385)
There's the inevitable eephus.
   63. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:22 AM (#4170388)
That's awful.
   64. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:26 AM (#4170389)
Got Ichiro to hit into a double play, so someone's living right.
   65. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:26 AM (#4170390)
Wouldn't have thought that possible with Ichiro running and the distance Aviles had to cover.
   66. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:27 AM (#4170391)
At least Avikes is playing good defense
   67. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:28 AM (#4170392)
Ichiro has definitely lost a few steps this year.
   68. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:30 AM (#4170393)
DO NOT SQUANDER THIS, BOYS.
   69. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:31 AM (#4170394)
Benefitting from the fact that Wedge is apparently a shift denier.
   70. Dale Sams Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:33 AM (#4170395)
Wait..Salty is *not* bunting in this situation?? ?
   71. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:34 AM (#4170396)
Squanderer #1 successful.
   72. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:36 AM (#4170398)
Squanderer #2 grants absolution.
   73. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:37 AM (#4170399)
Squanderer #3 succeeds!
   74. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:38 AM (#4170400)
Another squander!
   75. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:43 AM (#4170401)
Kyle Seager may stink, but his SLG is higher than both Dustin Pedroia's and Adrian Gonzalez's.

Same for Jaso.
   76. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:47 AM (#4170403)
Hey, the Seattle starter came out of the game with an injury. We've got to be close to "position player" or "guy with absolutely nothing" by now, right?
   77. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:51 AM (#4170404)
Aviles's half swings piss me off.
   78. Phil Coorey. Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:57 AM (#4170407)
This has been frustrating to watch to say the least
   79. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:57 AM (#4170408)
Ackley gets rewarded for poor contact, which means it's probably all downhill from here.
   80. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:58 AM (#4170409)
And Olivo makes for consecutive poor contact hits. Game over, Figgins doesn't even need to come to the plate.
   81. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 01:59 AM (#4170410)
Do not get beat by Chone Figgins. Do not get beat by Chone Figgins. Do not get beat by Chone Figgins. Do not get beat by Chone Figgins. Do not get beat by Chone Figgins. Do not get beat by Chone Figgins. Do not get beat by Chone Figgins. Do not get beat by Chone Figgins.
   82. Jay Seaver Posted: July 01, 2012 at 02:00 AM (#4170411)
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
   83. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 02:01 AM (#4170412)
That's twice in three games that Salty can't field a ball on the hop when the runner was dead if he executes.
   84. Dan Posted: July 01, 2012 at 02:01 AM (#4170413)
A walk off when Salty can't handle the throw from Ross. New and oriiGinal!
   85. Dale H. Posted: July 01, 2012 at 02:02 AM (#4170414)
They still had Iwakuma in the pen, assuming he was available.
   86. Chip Posted: July 01, 2012 at 02:03 AM (#4170416)
But could the Sox get useful crap contact when it mattered? Of course not. Despite having their 4-5-6 hitters up.
