I don't understand -- why does Texas have a 0 next to it on the scoreboard?

I tried the ESPN broadcast instead of NESN. That was a mistake.

After being competitive for two whole innings we go to ####. I'm shockingly relaxed at this point. We aren't a good team so sucking doesn't feel bad. I'm truly resigned to a sub-.500 last place finish.

Oh, I see they've fixed it now.

Down three and Pedroia ets thrown out stealing second. Ugh.

Are we allowed to want them to sell yet, or is that still irrational?

What the hell.

It's rational to want them to sell...but what can they sell? I don't think there is a lot to be sold but it is clear that they re playing for 2013 at this point. For that reason I'd much rather see Morales starting than working out of the pen.

I realize I'm insane, but I listen to offers for Beckett and Lester. I think Lester might be able to be fixed. Beckett... not so much. But a NL stint might give him a shiny new sheen and there are teams like LA that might bite.

I also insist on not eating salary. If that means lesser prospects... Eh, OK. With Youk & Beckett & Dice-K off the books, we have some working capital to put towards FA if we so choose; more if we let Papi walk and a smattering of $ more if we let Ross and some of the other 1-year signees take off.

I don't trade Crawford and I don't trade Ellsbury. Make the qualifying offer for Ellsbury after next year and use the draft pick that you'll get when he signs elsewhere wisely.

Side note: I don't get the reluctance to collect these compensation picks. (For example, the Phillies for a while seemed all determined to trade Hamels so as not to "let him go for nothing"--this makes no sense. They make him a qualifying offer, get him on a 1-year deal--which would be fine for the Phillies--if he accepts and get the draft pick if he declines. They've acted as if the draft pick is worthless, which I think is insane... But then they also seem to think they can get 3 blue-chip prospects for 2 months of Hamels & no draft pick for the team that acquires him if he walks... so maybe they are nuts.)

Anyway... more wood-chipping: Lackey's untradeable now, but I trade him at the first sign of upside potential next year. Shoppach: trade him, bring up Lavarnaway. Keep Aceves. Trade Padilla (if anyone would have him).

I agree with most of that. I just think the offers that are likely for Lester and Beckett will be not worth it. Prior to yesterday I felt Lester could have still been traded as an ace or near ace. I fear that is not the case now.

You're not going to get enough value for Lester to justify trading a guy who was a top 10 AL pitcher until last September. I think you need to bank on fixing him. But I agree that Beckett needs to go. I'd even be fine with letting any team that tries to block him on waivers just take him and his contract honestly.

Also, I'd rather sell on Salty than on Shoppach. You need to open up a fulltime job for Lavarnway IMO. And some team will see the home runs and overpay for him, while the Sox get a nice OBP upgrade at the position going to Lavarnway. I realize Lavarnway and Shoppach don't make a nice platoon pairing like the current duo, but I think there's probably some actual value in selling Salty whereas Shoppach isn't going to bring back anything significant and won't open up enough PA for Lavarnway at the MLB level.
