Is there any legitimate reason for why Pedroia and Ellsbury are sitting out the game? Because CC is a lefty for Ellsbury?
   2. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:10 PM (#4250394)
Pedroia apparently hurt his hand yesterday.
   3. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:11 PM (#4250396)
Do you think we'll ever see Andruw Jones in a Yankee uniform again?
Casey McGehee?
Steve Pierce?
   4. and Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4250400)
They just said Ellsbury is 5 for 15 in his career against CC. Small sample size and all.

Who knows?

Steve Pierce?
Since Steve Pearce is an Oriole, I doubt he'll be playing for the Yankees again this season.
   6. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:16 PM (#4250403)
I believe it was predicted here that the Sox would lose 90 games this year. I thought that was hyperbole.
   7. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:16 PM (#4250404)
They DFA'd him? Was it to get Gardner on the team?
   8. Best Regards, President of Comfort, Esq., LLC Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:19 PM (#4250407)
Yes.

In a huge bummer for Pearce, he's not eligible for the postseason roster, because he wasn't on the Orioles on August 31st, even though he was on the Orioles before then.
   9. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4250410)
Anyway, I was asking about "Steve Pierce", not "Steve Pearce".
   10. Best Regards, President of Comfort, Esq., LLC Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4250411)
He was also picked up by the Orioles.
   11. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:32 PM (#4250421)
The Red Sox, record-wise, have had a worse September this year than last year.
   12. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:34 PM (#4250423)
You know what? If it doesn't want to let me edit, then screw it.
   13. JJ1986 Posted: October 01, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4250440)
I see Clay Buchholz brought his A-game tonight.
   14. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 01, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4250442)
If a healthy Brett Gardner didn't make Ichiro superfluous, I could see the Yankees bringing him back next year. In any event, Ichiro has probably done enough in his stint with the Yankees to draw interest from other teams for 2013.
   15. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 01, 2012 at 08:03 PM (#4250444)
Need to wear out the Boston bullpen tonight, too.

And since Bucholtz didn't even go 2 innings tonight, the Red Sox should probably bring him back to start Wednesday.

What is the record for HRs in an inning?
   17. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 08:07 PM (#4250447)
Even the broken guys are hitting homers.
   18. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 08:08 PM (#4250448)
Heck, pull Sabathia and pitch him again tomorrow in relief.
   19. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 08:10 PM (#4250450)
I had to go to the bathroom at the beginning of this inning, and I don't move while they're playing. How long has it been?
   20. Jose is an Absurd Sultan Posted: October 01, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4250453)
The Sox aren't winning a game this week. You have nothing to worry about.
   21. TVerik - Dr. Velocity Posted: October 01, 2012 at 08:14 PM (#4250457)
I'll bet there were a lot of toilet flushes up and down New England/greater NY just now.

Just for posterity's sake;

#### you Bobby Valentine, #### you. (y'all got three more days of this).

God I can't believe what a colossal disaster he has been. I'm certainly not blaming 69-93 entirely on him but I think he is a MAJOR part of the problem. Unfortunately, tearing something down is easier than building it up. I don't think I'll need to pay for playoff tickets again until 2015 at the earliest and that's an optimistic estimate I fear.

Capitulation. Complete capitulation.

Of course, I read somewhere yesterday that the loss guaranteed us a top-10 draft pick, which means if we sign a FA who had a qualifying offer made to them we'd only lose our 2nd round pick... But of course I have my doubts we'd sign anyone of that caliber this off-season. Which means we'd have a top-10 pick (currently #9, I think) + something like a pick in the 40s (because there still are supplemental-type picks between the 1st & 2nd round, right? I'm blanking on the change that was made for this year w/r/t that.

So... Who do we want to draft with this pick, which will likely be (or, rather, damn well better be...) the highest we have for some time?

And yeah, the Orioles better sweep because we aren't winning a game this week. Although it would be hy-sterical if Dice-K pitched a shutout on the last day to force the Yankees into the WC game.

If there was ever a day for him to throw his first career shutout, that would be it, yes.

O's down 4-1 now in the 7th after a couple of bad defensive plays.

I think the yanks have it.

Well, it is possible Lester pitches well and they win tomorrow, but they have no hope of winning Wednesday. And really, you might as well lose games to get the better draft pick (if losing the last 3 would help with that; I haven't looked to find out), as it also means you'd have more pool $ to work with as well, so you can spread more $ around among the top 2-3 picks you make.

I do wonder if the draft situation doesn't just create an incentive to just play kids/tank if you're not going to make the playoffs. Sure, the fan base might revolt, but in the case of the Red Sox this particular year, wouldn't you have rather they just play Iglesias, etc. the last 2 months and see what they have in all of these kids, and if they lose 100 games, all the better! We get a really high draft pick and more pool $ to work with.

Orioles lose. Yankees control their own destiny for the AL East.
