I got a huge hangover, and now I'm hungry. What can I buy at 9:30 in the morning to make both go away?
   2. Sean McNally Posted: June 04, 2006 at 04:48 PM (#2050562)
Find a place with Mexican bruch.. some huevos rancheros or taquitos ought to do the trick.
   3. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:09 PM (#2050580)
Yay, Beltran's back and Milledge is starting in right.
   4. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:09 PM (#2050581)
Find a place with Mexican bruch.. some huevos rancheros or taquitos ought to do the trick.

I thought about that, but I don't know they only accept cash, and In & Out was closer.
   5. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:16 PM (#2050588)
Great play Endy.
   6. CrosbyBird Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:16 PM (#2050591)
I like Chavez as a 4th-5th OF. His defense is good enough to have around. He shouldn't start regularly though.
   7. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:17 PM (#2050592)
No one messes with Endy Chavez and comes out alive.

How was the second half of the douple dip yesterday?
   8. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:18 PM (#2050595)
It'd be nice if the Mets pitchers didn't walk guys ahead of Bonds.
   9. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:19 PM (#2050596)
Trachsel is a horrible pitcher. How can you walk Niekro in front of Bonds?
   10. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:19 PM (#2050598)
How do you walk Niekro after getting ahead to pitch to Bonds?
   11. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:19 PM (#2050599)
That's a collector's item, Mets fans. Lance Niekro draws a walk.
   12. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:25 PM (#2050604)
Mets fans may not like that, but I like that. Too many time outs, let's get on with things.
   13. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2050605)
I don't have a problem with it, Morris had already started his windup.
   14. CrosbyBird Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:30 PM (#2050612)
"I'd say going after that pitch is a pretty good indication of why he doesn't draw a lot of walks."

I was typing something to that regard myself.
   15. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:32 PM (#2050614)
'Atta boy Trax.
   16. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:34 PM (#2050617)
Man, it would be nice if Delgado did something productive.
   17. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:36 PM (#2050620)
That wasn't good Delgado.
   18. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2050624)
DAVID WRIGHT IS ON FIRE!
   19. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2050625)
D-Wright!!
   20. CrosbyBird Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:38 PM (#2050626)
Atlanta already down 2 runs.

David Wright doing his best to get us another game ahead of them.
   21. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#2050629)
Atlanta is down 4-0.
   22. CrosbyBird Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#2050630)
Make that down 4 runs.
   23. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2050635)
Wow, this weekend could be a huge, demoralizing blow to the Braves.
   24. Rob Base Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:42 PM (#2050636)
Bonds looks great out there, Dial.
   25. villainx Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2050638)
Endy runs fast.
   26. CrosbyBird Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2050639)
I actually like Bonds, but that was painful to watch.
   27. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2050640)
Bonds is comically bad.
   28. villainx Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#2050642)
Bonds is a gamer.
   29. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:44 PM (#2050644)
Bah, IBB. I wanted Milledge to get his first walk in legit fashion.
   30. CrosbyBird Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:45 PM (#2050646)
Milledge with his first career BB squandered.
   31. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:51 PM (#2050650)
I haven't been counting, but I reckon Bonds' fielding has cost the Giants about 4 or 5 bases this season. The honest truth is that the ball doesn't get hit over there much, and Feliz and Vizquel are great fielders who take a lot of the short stuff.
   32. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:51 PM (#2050652)
With all of the ######## about Trachsel's pace...he's moving extremely fast.
   33. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:52 PM (#2050653)
Trachsel is only slow with runners on base.
   34. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:52 PM (#2050654)
Trachsel looks surprisingly competent today.
   35. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:55 PM (#2050660)
Are the Giants annoucers insane? No Reyes couldn't have been called out, unless of course the umpire is blind.
   36. villainx Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:56 PM (#2050664)
bunting in the third inning.
   37. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:56 PM (#2050665)
You suck Blow Duca!
   38. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#2050666)
Why bunt there?
   39. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:57 PM (#2050667)
How are you getting the Giants announcers, AJM?
   40. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2050670)
Normally, I'd complain about the bunt but considering how bad the Mets are at scoring a runner on second with no out, I won't.
   41. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2050672)
On Extra Innings.
   42. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:59 PM (#2050676)
Beltran sure is talented, but this guy can;t hit for average at all.
   43. PreservedFish Posted: June 04, 2006 at 05:59 PM (#2050677)
GO Reyes GO!
   44. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:00 PM (#2050681)
I love Reyes.
   45. villainx Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:00 PM (#2050682)
it could be distracting delgado too.
   46. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:00 PM (#2050683)
Steal home!
   47. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:01 PM (#2050685)
TwoAlous, I also have Kuiper and Krukow. Makes me think I'm playing MVP2005.
   48. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2050686)
Am I the only one here who thinks Reyes kinda looks like Ronaldinho?
   49. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:03 PM (#2050689)
Reyes should have stolen home. And really, couldn't Delgado try for a bunt there?
   50. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:03 PM (#2050691)
Am I the only one here who thinks Reyes kinda looks like Ronaldinho?

Nah, he doesn't have the buckteeth.
   51. PreservedFish Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:04 PM (#2050696)
Ronaldinho would have stolen home. And done a backflip half way down the line.
   52. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#2050699)
I guess Delgado didn't like it.
   53. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:07 PM (#2050701)
Rivaldo would have collapsed in agony claiming that Morris hit him with the ball.
   54. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:09 PM (#2050704)
OFF, my friends and I have done a WC pool for the past two and we're doing it again this year. I think I may draw Argentina.
   55. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:10 PM (#2050707)
What ever happened to Rivaldo anyway? He was good. He used to absolutely kill both Real and Argentina.
   56. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:10 PM (#2050709)
I'd rather have Kruk and Kuip, but I'm liking Keith Hernandez today. If he didn't say the occasional idiotic thing he'd be an excellent color guy. The play-by-play is annoying though.
   57. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#2050714)
OFF, my friends and I have done a WC pool for the past two and we're doing it again this year. I think I may draw Argentina.

Smart man, Matt. How much are you going to win?
   58. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#2050715)
Rivaldo is lighting it up in Greece. He'd probably be on the World Cup roster for 85-90% of the teams.
   59. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:12 PM (#2050716)
Rivaldo got old. He's currently playing in Greece for Olympiakos.
   60. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:14 PM (#2050719)
Well, probably about 10-12 of us will do it and we each draw two countries. $20 per person and we randomly select the order of picking. I know the people in front of me will pick Brazil, Italy, Holland and England. I figure fifth pick and Argentina isn't half bad at all.
   61. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:14 PM (#2050720)
No way Argentina wins the World Cup. France or Italy.
   62. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:16 PM (#2050725)
And they're knocking Milledge. Shut the #### up Krukow, look at all of the players wearing armor on your team.
   63. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#2050728)
Woo Milledge!
   64. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#2050729)
No way Argentina wins the World Cup. France or Italy.

France? Oh come on. No way. Italy, yes, maybe.
   65. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#2050730)
What was Kruk saying about Milledge?
   66. PreservedFish Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:19 PM (#2050736)
Italy has got a little team called USA in the way!

(World Cup is probably the only time I ever get patriotic in any way.)
   67. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:20 PM (#2050737)
France are really really dangerous. They've got the best player in the world, a tough defense, loads of depth, and they've mysteriously slipped under the radar.
   68. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:20 PM (#2050738)
What was Kruk saying about Milledge?

Something to the tune of:

"Well, I can't believe a player with 11 major league at-bats can wear that thing on his arm. I thought you had to have experience, or even a health problem to wear it. Oh, well, he must have gotten a medicial exemption for that in the minors. Yeah.

You know, for a guy batting .091, he's got a lot of style points. Makes me scared to see what would happen if he was hitting .350."

Then Milo got a base hit.
   69. PreservedFish Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:21 PM (#2050742)
They've got the best player in the world

I honestly don't know who you're talking about. Henry? Certainly not Zidane, right?
   70. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:22 PM (#2050744)
Yeah, Fish, Henry.
   71. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:22 PM (#2050745)
Italy has got a little team called USA in the way!

(World Cup is probably the only time I ever get patriotic in any way.)

USA has a very slim chance of advancing out of pool play. Its first game against the Czechs is the most important game of the tournament for the Americans. Lose that and there's no chance.
   72. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:22 PM (#2050746)
What we do is we bet $1 on every game. Whoever gets the score right, wins the pot. If no one wins, we keep going until someone does.

No way Argentina wins the World Cup. France or Italy.

Oh yeah, Italy with an injured Totti is a better bet than Argentina. Sure. And lets not forget that Zidane isn't the magician he used to be.

You know, I'm kind of glad we are not the favorites. That way it'll be sweeter when we do win.
   73. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:23 PM (#2050748)
I can't believe so many people care about guys wearing elbow pads. Only in baseball would people complain about players trying to protect themselves.
   74. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:23 PM (#2050749)
Finley has a hit there, and rather than critiquing the really questionable fielding, they'd much rather chat with I think it's Tiki Barber. WTF?
   75. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:24 PM (#2050751)
They've got the best player in the world

Ronaldinho was still Brazilian last time I checked.
   76. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:29 PM (#2050760)
That's the first time Valentin has hade to make the turn. Looks like he did a nice job.
   77. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:29 PM (#2050763)
What a turn by Valentin! This guy is a player.
   78. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:29 PM (#2050765)
I thought Valentin was off the bag too soon, but I won't complain.
   79. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:29 PM (#2050766)
Sweet turn.
   80. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:31 PM (#2050772)
Ronaldinho was still Brazilian last time I checked.

I'll take your word for it (I haven't seen his nether regions) but what does that have to do with Thierry Henry? I'd rather have Henry and so, it seems, would Barcelona. But regardless. Who is the Brazilian Vieira? South American teams never do well in Europe, because the temperatures won't be sweltering like in Japan last time or USA in 1994, so teams will be able to play at a higher tempo, which suits the European teams much more.

I hold no candle for France, by the way, they're just who I'd go for if I was a betting man. I daren't mention the team I hope just might win it, for fear of jinxing them.
   81. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:34 PM (#2050784)
Just glacing at the Mets schedule for a second and I realized this is by far, their hardest month of the season.

SF - 3
@ LA - 3
@ ARI - 4
@ PHI - 3
BAL - 3
CIN - 4
@ TOR - 3
@ BOS - 3
@ NYY - 1

That's rough.
   82. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:41 PM (#2050800)
####### Trachsel.
   83. Rob Base Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:41 PM (#2050802)
Those games against the sox are going to be very fun.
   84. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:41 PM (#2050803)
This is not good.
   85. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2050804)

No, Barca would like to have Henry AND Ronaldinho. If given the choice, there's no question they'd go for the latter.

Emerson and Cambiasso might not be as good as Viera, but they aren't chopped liver either. Moreover, since Emerson is sorrounded by a constellation of stars and Argentina plays with a double pivot (Cambiasso/Mascherano), neither player is being asked as much as Viera is. BTW, the majority of players in both rosters plays in Europe and excel there, so I'm not sure the European teams will have an advantage. Last time a WC was played in Europe, Brazil was only stopped by an inspired Zidane, and the previous time before that, Codesal robbed Argentina of the chance to win it.

Ugh. Trachsel is going to blow it.
   86. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:43 PM (#2050806)
HBP, great.
   87. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:45 PM (#2050811)
Come on Trax. Bear down.
   88. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:45 PM (#2050812)
I'm glad Finley sucks.
   89. PreservedFish Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:47 PM (#2050818)
Who starts on Brazil's front line?
   90. Old Matt Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:48 PM (#2050820)
Yeah Trachsel!

Nice job.
   91. Flynn Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:49 PM (#2050823)
I'm not sure how good Vieira is anymore. His form dropped off significantly at Juventus and combined with his poor form his last season with Arsenal he's not the player he once was.

By the way, Henry signed a five year extension with Arsenal so he's not going anywhere.

USA has a very slim chance of advancing out of pool play. Its first game against the Czechs is the most important game of the tournament for the Americans. Lose that and there's no chance.

It's more than a slim chance, although it's not a good chance. This is ####. Mexico does NOTHING in big tournaments and hasn't beaten the USA below 8,000 feet since Laserdiscs were trendy and THEY get seeded? F'ing A.
   92. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:50 PM (#2050824)
Good job by Trax. That should be it for him, though. He barely got out of those last two innings.
   93. Tom is wrong when he calls you stupid Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:50 PM (#2050825)
So Morris and Traschel, everybody expected a pitchers duel right?
   94. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:50 PM (#2050827)
You know, the Mets are lucky to be facing the Giants without Alou.
   95. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:52 PM (#2050830)
Mexico does NOTHING in big tournaments and hasn't beaten the USA below 8,000 feet since Laserdiscs were trendy and THEY get seeded? F'ing A.

Mexico won the sub-20 world championships, and their teams consistently do well in the Libertadores. The teams are pretty equal, but that gives them the edge, IMHO. And this is coming from someone who hates the Mexican team.
   96. Rob Base Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:52 PM (#2050831)
Nonsequitor:

I miss Mike Piazza. I hope he's the manager of the Mets some day.

(just used my Mets bottle opener that does a Gary Cohen game-call of a Piazza walk-off against the Giants. "Brower delivers. And a DRIVE IN THE AIR TO DEEP LEFT FIELD; BACK GOES BONDS, TO THE WALL, JUMPING - *IT'S OUTTA HERE*!!!!!!!!!! MIKE PIAZZA WINS THE GAME!!!")
   97. Francoeur Sans Gages (AlouGoodbye) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:52 PM (#2050832)
BTW, the majority of players in both rosters plays in Europe and excel there, so I'm not sure the European teams will have an advantage.

But the South American national teams play at a slower tempo, which gives them a huge advantage in hot weather. The weather will be normal in Germany, so that advantage is nullified. Only one South American team has ever won the World Cup in normal playing conditions, and that was almost 40 years ago. The likes of Holland, France and Italy just have better players.

Last time a WC was played in Europe, Brazil was only stopped by an inspired Zidane,

This is the kind of thing I don't understand. To my mind Brazil were hugely fortunate to get to the final - Holland utterly choked - then got absolutely crushed by a much better France team. They weren't "stopped by an inspired Zidane" - his goals were headers from corners, ffs - they were outmatched by a solid but unspectacular team. France won the World Cup with Stephane Guivarch as their only striker, which, in baseball terms, is like winning the World Series with Juan Encarnacion as your cleanup hitter. Now they have Henry.

By God that inning went to hell in a handbasket. Alou cannot come back soon enough.
   98. AJMcCringleberry Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:53 PM (#2050835)
Delgado!
   99. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 04, 2006 at 06:54 PM (#2050837)
Okay. Baby steps. Baby steps.
